The hot Wednesday afternoon burned her skin. The girl looked beyond the horizon seeing no clouds above but clear blue sky. There was no breeze to refresh her heated skin. The trees dotting the far away hill were still.
Another look at the sky brought no joy to the girl standing under the scorching heat of the sun. Her sun-kissed cheeks burned hotly and now were red. Glancing behind her, she noticed a group of teenagers having a chitchat with a cold bottle of water in hand. She swallowed dryly and licked her lips wishing she had the bottle in her hand.
A tall shadow removed itself from the bushes and looked at her then looked away. He was clad in a nice pair of expensive suit over a crisply white shirt. He was holding his phone turning it over like he was waiting for someone to call.
Looking away, the girl focused on the bottle of water in the teenager's hand. Her parched lips told her she needed to have water soon or she would be dehydrated.
A gentle tap on her shoulder made her turn abruptly. The guy in the suit offered her a bottle of water.
"Thought you might need a drink."
Taken off guard, she hesitated for a few seconds before accepting the bottle.
"Thanks." She murmured and opened the bottle to drink her fill. "Wow this is so refreshing!" She commented more to herself knowing how thirsty she was.
"Waiting for someone?" he asked making polite conversation.
"Yes. My ride." She was surprised to have given such information so easily but there was no way of taking it back.
"Heading somewhere?"
"Yes." She replied flatly. "Thanks for the water by the way.... I really needed it."
"You're welcome. I knew you needed it badly because you could easily dismissed the idea of ogling at me for a bottle of water."
"I wasn't ogling." She protested with a broken ego. "I happen to notice you while you came out from your hiding place."
"I wasn't hiding" he replied calmly.
There was a moment of silence. She contemplated on asking him of his business but decided against it.
"You're Angela, right?" the man asked.
Angela started to turn panicky. But after a few breaths she was able to calm her panicked nerves.
"And what if I say I'm not"
"Angela Lee. Twenty five, daughter of Angelou Lee, the husband of Elsa Go."
The girl stood with an expression of calmness. There was no hint of surprise on her face nor was she threatened at the man's words. "How I wish I could help you with that. But it seemed you have me wronged for someone else."
"No denial. No confirmation either. Smart. Poker face huh."
"I'm not having this conversation with you. Especially to a stranger." She started to walk away and then remembered something. "The water was a great help by the way. Thanks" then she threw the empty bottle to which he caught in mid air.
"It was nice talking to you."
The girl only waved her hand walking away passing the group of teenagers down the road. A jogger shouted "left" and run past her. She merely looked up to see a coming blue car then continued to walk towards the bend.
