Chapter 8 - Shopping in Preparation

Linda was very friendly and talks just almost about everything. Angela felt like she found a new best friend for Linda treated her like they have been closed friends for a long time.

"Oh look at this beautiful dress. I would die to have one like this." She blurted fingering at the delicate dress in front of them. Then she looked at Angela's form and shook her head. "Nah...too .... I don't know..." she shook her head again and they went on

There were few gowns that caught her eye but Angela preferred Linda to choose the dress for her. She had no idea of the allowable amount for her dress tonight.

Further down the display section, a blue dress caught Angela's eyes. She run for it and then fingered on the softness of the cloth. She placed her cheek into it and closed her eyes.

"Oh this felt so wonderful." She exclaimed and signaled to the waiting sales lady.

The woman attending them wore a magnanimous smile. She carefully removed the dress from the display and handed it to them.

"Fitting room is in here." The lady showed them the fitting room and eagerly Linda shoved the dress carefully into her hands.

Angela gingerly placed the dress so she could remove her jeans and blouse. She put on the blue dress and it dropped down to her body almost instantly as if it has a mind of its own.

The dress flaunts a sea blue color. It has a deep neckline nipping at the cleavage of her ample breast. It was a halter dress with the back bare down to her hips revealing soft creamy skin. The dress flattered her hips hugging it to perfection dropping down to her legs bellowing up down to her calves while the tail runs a little longer fanning like a bell. The entire bodice was adorned with beads and sequence and swarovski crystals catching the light.

"Perfect!" Linda exclaimed when she emerged from the fitting room.

"Now the shoes and accessories."

There's more! Angela thought.

And indeed there was. Linda chooses a silver shoes to go with the dress. It wasn't so high so she wouldn't trip off while walking and break her ankle. It was her boss's instruction so she said.

After the shoes they took a turn into the jewelry section of the store.

"Do you think I need that for just tonight?" Angela asked feeling a little extravagant.

"Oh you should have seen his previous fling. The woman wears all manners of jewelries on a daily basis far more luxurious that these ones." Linda gestured her hand towards all the display.

"And they did not marry?" Angela's curiosity to the man was ticked.

"No they didn't. We all thought they would tie the knot but then after a month into the relationship, boss started showering her with lavish gifts."

"Was it wrong?" Angela asked.

"Believe me, it's a sign he is bored."

"Oh!" Angela tried to understand the man but lost. "What happened to the woman?"

"Like most of his paramour, she was enraged beyond measure but the boss was known for that since I can remember. He easily tired his women and then starts looking for another."

Angela thought of the contract. Maybe that's one he bluntly stated that he doesn't need a clingy wife.

"Is there any woman in his life now?" Angela asked curiosity lacing her voice.

"None that I know of." Linda then eyed her from head to toe. "I was expecting someone not like you, you know." Linda then waved her hand as if she had said something that should not have been said. "I mean you're too simple for his taste. Please don't get offended."

"I'm not." Angela declared half dismayed. So his women were sophisticated and elegant not like her. Well he choose them out of love but he choose her for a contract. What was in there to compare with. He needed a woman that no one would noticed, someone insignificant like her.

Tried as she may to be unaffected but there was a lump on her throat at the knowledge that her insignificant status triggered his desire to marry her. She was not lovable after all.

Clearing her throat before she would choke on her own sadness, Angela urged Linda to go and finish the shopping.

"We are far from finish here dahling!" Linda declared imitating sophistication.

A particular jewelry caught her eyes but she turned away from it but not soon enough for Linda not to notice.

"So you like that one. We'll try it."

The saleslady hinting a sale assisted them and took the precious jewelry. She showed it to Angela. "This diamond necklace had been ordered by Mrs. Rodriguez, the wife of the A wealthy businessman. But when she saw it she believed it was too simple and canceled it. But this necklace is a good catch. This is set in 24 karat gold. The diamond itself were personally picked by our designers and of the best quality. This beautiful sapphire in the middle came from England and believed to be once a part of a noble man's crown."

"We'll take that and add it to our tab. And if you have a matching earring we will take it too." Linda ordered.

Angela could not believe her ears. But Linda is spending quite a huge fortune on her just to attend a party? How important this party to him?
