Chapter 88 - War minds Council

A war council had been assembled. Albie was the leader while the War mind acted as moderator. The minds of the most important creatures in the scourge where present.

"Duke Rolling is a good commander as long as he has Sergeant of arms Timel," declared the War mind. "Rolling is good at handling nobles, handling soldiers, and being aggressive. The man sadly has no instinct for combat. Timel was his instinct. Aside from keeping the men in line he acted as Rollings instinct. He will be easy to lure into a trap."

"What is this Poof Poof creature?" asked Milled. "And how will it kill me?"

"It is Rollings dog," explained War mind. "I now a lot of people both noble and common who would like to kick the little bitch. I would also like an explanation as to how it could kill Milled. I would also like to know how reliable this information is."

"The traveler is the traveler," explained Albie. "I don't know what exactly he is but he dropped me off in Mill village. I can't remember anything about him changing in all that time. I also know he is not a moon mage. He told me before I left my village for Yourz he was a star mage. According to him he could see the future. I believe ha can see the future."

"The man who paints stars on his horse?" asked War mind.

"Yes him," said Albie. "And I will insist on heading the travelers word. How do we kill Poof Poof?"

"Kill it"

"kill it"

"Eat it"

"Kill it"

"Any more specific ideas?" asked the moon mage.

"The little ra… dog is probably near the Duke or in his tent," responded War mind.

"So, we kill all the soldier, then the officers take the camp and kill the dog," declared Scab.

"I agree but if these mattes so much it might be best to designate something to kill Poof Poof," mussed War mind. "I can't imagine a being that can see the future would mention this if it was something as easy as killing everything in the camp. Perhaps if special attention is not paid to killing the bitch it will escape. Poof is annoying but ultimately harmless to most of us."

"Hmm a valid point," agreed the mage. "I think its safe to say that Milled can't be responsible for killing it. Perhaps sending a lurker after it would be best. They might kill some officers too."

"I like the idea the sun is setting now," declared War mind. "The lurkers and wraiths can't really move in day light best if you send them now Scab."

"It is done," concluded the wights mind. "The wraiths and lurkers wont be enough to kill the entire army. I should send the rest of my forces to assault the camp now."

"That is an idea but most of your bodies are still dead," declared War mind. "I don't believe you will be able to get enough corpses walking before sunrise."

"So it is up to the beasts then," squeaked Milled.

"We shall feast on these humans," agreed Twenty-Eight.

"If the enemy is 10000 strong you guys don't have the numbers either," declared the war mind.

"We will have to use everyone, and we will have to fight in daylight," declared War mind.

"Why not at night?" asked the mage.

"The rats and raptors will need daylight to fight most effectively," answered War mind. The dead will suffer but they only stand to lose walking corpses that would normally need a numbers advantage to win anyway. I think I can trick Rolling into a trap. I will need 200 walking corpses dressed in orange."

"I can arrange this," agreed Scab.

"There is a field nearby we can use for a battle," declared War mind. "That will be where we meet the humans tomorrow. "Milled, Twenty-Eight, Your highness you should find hiding spots in the surrounding woods. Scab raises what forces you can but ready our fake orange coats first. If the battle seems lost, we will retreat down the road and let the spiders serve as a rear guard."

The minds all seemed to come to a consensus and separated their minds to focus on what the War mind had commanded.

"Scourge," asked War mind.

"Yes," acknowledged Albie.

"If the traveler can see the future than why has he let us become this?" aske the brain in a jar.

"I think he mentioned some young mage of similar power in the capital," replied the moon mage. "It seems he can't see a mage of similar powers with his ability and they have the site necessary to ruin his plans."

"If that is true than should we not be preparing to deal with an enemy who can see the future as well," asked the mind. "If this is to be believed than they have enough influence to have Yourz destroyed how can we trust that we know that what happens tomorrow will not be countered by this other mage."

"I suppose all we can do is hope that the traveler is more powerful than our enemy," shrugged the mage. "No matter what something will happen tomorrow. Weather we live or die running from it will not get us any closer to the capital. If they already know what is going to happen then its best to show them. After all every man knows that one day he will die. Just because we know this doesn't mean we want to pay attention to it. It's terrifying to think about. Our group looks almost the same. An ugly reminder that all things must die even if they can see us coming it does not mean that they will want to see us coming."
