Senor Augustus and Senora Manuela were very upset when their only daughter, their pretty latina, Leticia, informed them of her situation. Too proud of their high station in life, they couldn't accept this bad news, for indeed, they have too great a reputation to risk bringing shame to the Gutierrez name.
"This can't be, Leticia!" his face red in anger, Senor Augustus shouted. "We must take you immediately to Mexico. I know somebody there who could help us get rid of that bastard you're carrying."
"Oh no, Papa! I won't let you or anybody else take my baby!" tears streaming down her pale cheeks, Leticia lamented. "This baby is all I have of my love. Please Papa, please let me keep this child. I will do anything you want, just let me keep this."
"Darling, keeping that child would surely ruin everything for us. You must understand that we have to protect this family's reputation at all cost." Senora Manuela interrupted.
"No Mama! It's you who don't understand at all! I will keep my baby, and there's nothing you could do to change my mind!" Leticia said vehemently.
"Well then, since you have already made up your mind about your life, your mother and I won't do anything to help you. You better pack up your things and leave! I don't want to have anything at all to do with you!" Senor Augustus left the living room and slammed the door behind him. "Augustus, you can't be serious!" cried Senora Manuela behind him.
Sobbing, Leticia's shoulders slumped in defeat, not expecting her father, the father who had always doted on her, to disown her for the sake of the family's selfish interests.
