Synopsis
Oliver had always dreamed of becoming an Electrical Engineer. In his world, the sky had been blocked out by smog and the only habitable land was in the far reaches of Canada and Russia. The other animals had long gone extinct and the eating of any type of meat had been outlawed. people panicked once the fossil fuels ran out. Without a source of energy, the people turned on one another. A civil war broke out amongst the surviving population. Some people wanted to return to how life was before technological advancement. Others wanted to implement the battery system. The battery system would rely on the human body as its power source. The people advocating the battery system won and the losers were converted into the energy source. Like this hundreds of years had gone by. The smog that polluted the earth was slowly receding and vegetation was growing back but humankind had decided to sanction off their part of the earth specifically for them. They didn't want to mess with nature again. Electrical engineers were responsible for the production of the capsules that would suck the life force out of the 'Batteries'.

Chapter 1 - Battery

Oliver tidied up his papers and walked up to the front of the class.

"Here professor, I've finished the calculations for the generator."

The professor smiled and took the papers from him.

"Yes, thank you for going out of your way to do this. I'll be sure to look it over and get back to you as soon as possible."

Oliver excused himself and began making his way down the corridors.

The large hall was dimly lit by overhead lights. He walked for a few minutes before exiting the building and entered a large courtyard bordered by fluffy green grass and fragrant flowers.

Oliver looked up at the gray mass of clouds that obscured the sky.

He sighed and looked away. The sky was one of the things Oliver hated the most. The thick clouds always limited the sunlight and the solar panels could never collect enough energy.

He continued walking towards the far end of the courtyard.

Oliver stopped to admire the flowers. It wasn't every day a citizen could see them.

Ever since the water had become a scarce commodity and fertile soil had skyrocketed in market value, such things like flowers seemed too frivolous to plant.

Of course, this wasn't any ordinary place where citizens could enter.

Oliver smiled to himself. He had worked hard and had spent his entire childhood contributing to society.

He clenched his hands in agitation. Soon he would receive the results to go to Maxwell, the most prestigious college of mathematics.

Glancing at his solar-powered watch, Oliver quickly passed through the courtyard. He traveled through a few more buildings before entering the main office.

When he opened the doors he met with a charming young lady.
