Lianne laughed at the completely shocked expression and his reaction over her agreement.
She smiled wistfully at him as she explained, "I'm worried about you, and your health. I may not be able to help you with your business but I certainly can make sure that you're in good condition to face it."
Kai was smiling so widely out of sheer happiness that he couldn't help but hug her again and give her several kisses.
Lianne hit him on the chest to stop him and told him sternly, "Sleep, not sex. Understand?"
Kai grinned as he said, "I would never force a woman, let alone you. I won't lie and say that I am not hoping for it but I certainly will not make you do anything you do not want, or be ready for. Having you with me is enough."
"Good," Lianne said, "You've taken my first kiss and …"
Kai was surprised again, "Wait, what? I did?! But but but … I saw you and Zero kiss at the airport!"
Lianne gave him the 'are you serious' look and said patiently, "If you had a sister, would you kiss her?"
"Of course not," Kai said indignantly, "But Zero isn't your brother."
"Not by blood, but he is in my heart," Lianne told him, letting it sink it.
This was a good opportunity for her to really get Kai to try and understand the position Zero had in her heart. The fact that they weren't related by blood could be an issue so it was best to nip it in the bud.
Lianne believed that there would always be that slight doubt in Kai's mind (and heart) which may cause him to fear her to choose Zero in the end after all.
Like a festering wound.
"I told you that he's special to me, and will always be," Lianne said, "But that's because I truly regard him as my best friend and brother."
"I want to be your best friend," Kai said with a slight pout.
Lianne laughed and hugged him tightly, saying, "Well, that takes time, doesn't it?"
Kai shrugged.
"Although using the term 'best' should mean that there is only one," Lianne began, "I find that to be a really hard thing to do when it comes to people that I hold dear to."
"Each person will have a different position in my heart, and I can't promise you anything other than the fact that I will always be true," she said, "Is that enough?"
Kai sighed.
"I'm greedy," he confessed, "I want to be the only one in your heart and mind. I know that's excessive but I can't help it."
"I can't tell you what to feel," Lianne told him, "But as long as you keep your word and not start dictating things to me, you're fine."
"We're still trying this out after all," Lianne reminded him.
"Well … yeah … but …" Kai began, "You do like me, right?"
Lianne frowned, "Of course."
"More than a friend?"
"Naturally," Lianne replied, wondering where he was going with this.
"As a potential husband?"
"Well, I'm dating you with the intention of marriage," Lianne said, feeling a bit weird about this because it sounded like she was proposing to him or something.
"Then let's live together," Kai said with a smile.
Lianne rolled her eyes.
"Give you an inch, and you'll take a mile," Lianne scoffed, "I said I will accompany you to sleep tonight, not stay with you forever."
Kai slumped his shoulders, "It was worth a try."
"The more important thing right now though," Lianne said, "Is that for tonight, how are you going to handle the Shengs when they find out we've spent the night together?"
Another good opportunity has arisen, Lianne thought.
No, it wasn't the fact that she would actually be spending the night with Kai (though yes, that did make her heart go flip-flops even though her face didn't show any reaction).
This was the golden opportunity to get Kai to realise that she wasn't someone he just had to protect. She was someone that he could rely on, to help him protect the both of them. Well, the first step towards that direction.
She was not like his mother, at least.
Although Lianne wasn't sure how good she would be to handle it all, at the very least, she knew she wasn't bad. If Kai was working with her side-by-side, then they had a good chance.
"I'll see what their move will be first," Kai told her, "They are basically just regarding you as my fling, I suppose. So spending the night with you is nothing."
"Due to your reputation as a playboy, huh?"
Kai became worried immediately, "It's only what they think. I've never slept with any of them."
Lianne tilted her head as she looked at his almost panicked face, and she pursed her lips while raising an eyebrow, "Oh, really?"
Kai's eyes went wide open, "Yes! Really!"
"Um-hmm," Lianne replied non-commitingly.
"Sayang! Seriously!" Kai started panicking, "I went out with them, and yes, they may have stolen some kisses sometimes … but never …"
"Oh? Kisses?"
Kai gulped.
"Stolen kisses? You mean, the great Kai Sheng could not avoid being kissed before?"
"Er … well … it's a long story and something I'm not that too proud of," Kai admitted.
"Whilst I'd love to hear about it, first things first," Lianne said, getting out of his arms. Kai didn't dare hold on to her as she glared at him, "Dinner. You can tell me allllll about it tonight."
"Yes, sayang," Kai replied obediently.
"I presume you have a change of clothes here?"
"Yes," Kai answered, "But why? Shouldn't it be change of clothes for you?"
Lianne didn't answer but just looked at him.
"We're going to your apartment?" Kai asked, his eyes going wide again.
"If I go to your house, it'll look like I'm the one who was shameless enough to barge into the house," Lianne siad, "Or worse, I'm already seeing myself as the Young Madam or something."
Kai thought about it, and felt that Lianne was most likely right, but why should that be a problem?
"If you come to my place, then it seems like you're the one pursuing me," Lianne continued, as they walked out of the office after Kai took the extra clothes.
Zayn had gone back already, as per Kai's standing instructions. Although Kai was the one that spent the night in the office, he wasn't demanding enough that he needed Zayn to be on call the whole night.
It was enough that Zayn would leave after making sure all the work Kai wanted, was done and when he came the next morning, he brought a change of clothes for Kai. Kai always had one 'spare' in the office,
"Which you are, by the way," Lianne reminded him with a smile.
"Yes, sayang," Kai replied, "And how am I doing so far?"
"Meh," Lianne answered as they entered the lift, putting up one hand with her fingers spread open, palm facing downwards as she shook it, "So-so. Can be better."
Lianne squeaked when Kai suddenly grabbed her and gave her one long, passionate kiss.
"Okay, I'll work harder then," Kai replied when he finally broke the kiss as the lift door opened on the ground floor.
Kai quickly ran off before Lianne could hit him.
