Chapter 58 - Long Night

"KAI!!"

Kai was actually laughing as he ran off and Lianne gave chase. Of course, he wasn't really trying to get away from her as she caught up with him right at the entrance of the building.

She grabbed onto him and he moved slightly, allowing her to hit him yet at the same time, wrap his hands around her waist to hold her tightly to him. The moment he did so, he kissed the top of her head and snuggled close.

Lianne rolled her eyes, but allowed him to do so.

When they went out, the cold night air hit them and Lianne was glad for the body warmth that Kai provided. She also saw a homeless man trudging along with his beat-up shopping cart and she sighed.

They came out during the night, probably looking for a place to sleep after being kicked out from their previous place. There was a homeless shelter, but many chose not to go to it for one reason or another.

Lianne patted Kai on the chest and said, "Wait for me for a minute."

Kai watched as Lianne walked forward towards the homeless man. She stopped by him for a while, and placed the paper bag with their slightly soggy sandwiches into his hands.

The homeless guy had his head down but didn't reject her gift. When Lianne turned to come back to him, Kai saw the homeless guy finally looking up towards Lianne's back. He turned to walk on, but not before Kai saw him wipe his eye.

Kai smiled softly as he watched his Angel come back to him.

"He looked like he needed it more than we did," Lianne said, "I have some ingredients for a simple dish of noodles in soup for dinner, if you don't mind."

Kai blinked.

"You mean, you're going to cook?"

"Well, yes," Lianne replied tilting her head as she looked at him, "Is that okay?"

Is what Kai thought but to her, he just smiled and replied, "Of course. Don't worry. I'm not picky."

He took her hand and they walked to where his car was parked, all the while grinning away and thinking of the wonderful night ahead.

When Kai reached Lianne's apartment, he couldn't believe how nervous he was.

Excited, yes; but also very, very nervous.

Barely a week into the relationship, and he was going to enter her home.

To spend the night.

Even though it was just to have the most innocent thing as sleeping, it was still enough to make him all giddy and jittery.

Then again, perhaps it is because it was something that was innocent and platonic like that, which made it all the more special?

By entering her home, he would see how she was like.

How she decorated her home.

Her room.

...

Her room!

Where she slept in … changed after bathing …

Lianne stared at Kai, who had not moved despite having parked the car.

"Kai?" she called out, touching his arm.

Jolted out of his thoughts, Kai actually gave a bit of a shout and then looked away immediately.

He mentally hit himself on the head, thinking that he was seriously asking for trouble right now.

"S-Sorry," Kai stammered, unbuckling his seatbelt, "I got distracted, thinking."

He got out quickly, glad that it was dark outside so that she couldn't see his face. It was also a good thing that he wasn't the type to blush easily for otherwise, it certainly would be beet red right now.

Also ..

He adjusted his 'parking'.

The darkness may hide this part as well but it wouldn't do once they entered the building. So Kai did the one thing he could in the situation.

He untucked his shirt.

"It's so good to let loose," Kai said to Lianne as he went over to her side after doing so, and started unbuttoning the first few buttons on his shirt, "Wearing proper shirts and all can be quite stifling."

Lianne gave him a small smile and took his hand, "I guess."

As observant as she was, she didn't notice the real reason why Kai had loosened his clothes. After all, she wouldn't be looking *there*, right? And Kai had been quick.

There were two areas of focus whenever Lianne was with Kai.

She'd be mesmerized by his face, and fascinated with his long legs. Everything else faded in the background.

They entered the apartment building after Lianne placed her keycard on the front door's panel. There was someone at the front desk as well, and Lianne greeted him with a smile.

"Carlos, this is Kai," Lianne said, "You can put him on the list of my approved guests."

"Yes, Ms Lianne," Carlos replied, taking out a book from under the desk.

He flipped the pages, choosing one tab and Kai saw that it was Lianne's 'page'.

As he flipped to an empty page, Kai noted there was Zero's picture in it. He sighed, though he knew that should have been obvious.

Carlos then looked at Kai, "Full name please?"

"Kai Sheng," Kai replied, "Also known as Sheng Wenyu."

Carlos nodded, jotting down Kai's name. He then accessed the camera that had been pointed at the front desk, zoomed in on Kai's face and printed it out. That picture was then placed next to Kai's name.

"Done," Carlos announced.

"Thank you, Carlos," Lianne replied as she then went to the lift.

Lianne's apartment was on the tenth floor. Much to Lianne's replief, they did not encounter anyone on the way to her apartment. It wasn't that she was ashamed of Kai, but rather, she was not in the mood to entertain anyone's questions.

Especially from the nosy neighbours - some who just loved to gossip and some who were just worried and caring. Both were equally annoying to her, as she was a very private person.

When Kai entered the apartment, he noted that it was a simplistic design with the walls being dark turquoise.

They placed their shoes at the side and walked in while Lianne said, "Just wait here in the living room while I change into something more comfortable."

Kai nodded though he gulped.

He knew she was saying it as a fact and not her trying to seduce him but darn it. With his earlier thoughts and now her innocent words, he was seriously in trouble.

He flopped down on the sofa and groaned.

This was going to be a long night.
