Chapter 1 - The Dream

The queen heard a giggle in the middle of the eerie chilling night. Knowing that the voice was from Anna who runs the hallways like she used to do at day, the queen immediately got up with a heart that seems like to beat like a racing horse and without hesitancy, run to find where Anna's giggle is. She has to find the little girl and tuck her to bed with locked doors. What is lurking beyond that door is extremely dangerous. Cold sweat leaks out the majesty's skin as she tries to trace the faint sound that echoes in the dead of the night. Her feet race each other and each hallway was found empty until she reached to a dead end where the torches are not lightened and the shadows of the night lingers. The queen traced her footsteps back to grab the last torch burning to see what lurks in the dark. As she got closer, what seems to be an animal eating a meal was heard even before the light of the torch brightens the pitch black corridor. She swallowed hard while preventing hot streams of tears to run her flushed cheeks. With a silent prayer, she hopes to see a different scenario than what her mind is telling her. But alas, as the light reached to what she was curious to see, lies a dead body with its blood splattered around being savaged by a hungry and bloodlust white haired animal digging in the insides.

'Anna' the queen's mind shouted as she regretted being there disturbing the beast. Her mind shouted her to leave and run as fast as her feet could but she was rooted to the ground as fear paralyzes her and the worst part is seeing her daughter slaughtered and eaten by the animal that was heartless and gruesome as it could be. She knows it was too late.

The moment the light touches the beast, it locks eyes with the form standing a few meters away with an angered but yet hungry grimace. It made a stance ready to attack the person which it calls 'mother' and growls making a hair raising sound of a fierce beast. As the person in front emanates fear, it forwarded its right hand slowly creeping forward and absorbing the fear with pleasure as its pitch black sclera of the eyes never wandered away the gaze of the prey. With an expected turn of event, it smiled menacingly as it leaped from the ground with its mouth wide open targeting the pulsating neck of its mother.

A shout has been ringing the corridors at the youth of the day as the queen got up suddenly with heavy breathing. The king, by her side, was awakened and caressed her back with assurance that it was a bad dream. Wiping the beaded sweats from her forehead, emotions get hold of her that she begins to weep a heart piercing sound of a cry. It was just a nightmare but it seems so real. The pain she felt as she saw Anna being torn apart and the fear of the attack was so real that it was hard for her to transcend from the dream to the reality of her life.

The dream is the premonition of the reality of their lives.

A handmaid carrying a glass of water came in from the other room that was connected to theirs and offered it to the queen and has been accepted. With a gentle bow, she went back to the small room and waits for another order coming from the majesties. The small room contains everything that the royal couple needs from bed linens to meals in case the couple might get hungry at the wee hours of the morning. The doors to the corridors does not need to be opened by night after heavy set of bolt locks were being placed by the knight to protect the majesties from the inside of the chamber while being alert from the small room. A set of guards are on alert at the other side of the bolted door to hinder whatever that is accidentally freed on the corridor. Every morning at dawn, the guards would report that all was well during the night and the majesties are safe to come out. If the guards fail to report at the scheduled time, the majesties are to pass through a hidden secret door with the knight and the handmaid to escape from the dreadful fate that awaits them beyond the magic bolted door that delays the crystal ice power by an hour just for the royals to escape safely to the woods where they know the beast could not trace them any further. Anna is reunited with them at the carriage by the knight and a handmaid assigned to the child at day and night.

The status report from the guards are heard and the king got up from the bed and kissed the queen's forehead. "it's okay, my love"

The queen smiled half heartedly locking eyes with the king. His highness saw the sadness in the eyes with obvious guilt written all over her face. He can't blame her having to feel that way every single day since the accident with Anna a few weeks ago. Had they lost Anna, they lost the reason of having an ideal family.

As the queen got up from the bed to prepare for the day, the king sighed as the flashback keep creeping inside his head. This was a memory he kept suppressing deep inside the depths of his consciousness as traumatic events had succeedingly unfolded during those depressive times. He shook the hair raising memories but that was all that has kept playing in his head after being awaken by the shrilling voice from the woman he can't live without.

Hearing the sweet melody of the queen's tone as she soft spokenly instructed the maid, his highness can't get off his gaze to the figure in front of him. Those perfect features the gods had creatively made suited to be the rightful wife and queen, the proud but graceful gait that seemingly more like a dandelion floating freely at the mild blow of the breeze, those soft eyes that show mercy to those who deserved and justice to those who are oppressed that when he looks at them directly, he can't help but to be lost in the deepness of her soul. The woman who made his chaotic world a peaceful one, the woman who he almost lost about five years ago during the birth of their first born child.

Though he hadn't caught every conversation his lover had with the maid, a distinct tone of sadness was noted from her melodious tone maybe from the dream not long ago that nobody knows what. Out from nowhere, an image of a woman whose blood stained her night gown, while clutching a lifeform wrapped in a bloody cloth as she stood still with a menacing smile in the middle of the dark, eerie woods near a cliff that certain eventful night. This was the night she gave birth to their first child and this was also the night she gave life to the stillborn baby against all odds.

The night where an untold story has unfolded.
