Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Armageddon with a touch of explosives

I forced my eyes open as I heard metal bumping in the middle of the night. Or early in the morning. Its hard to tell time when there's nothing to tell you it. But I sat up and looked around the room. A rat had knocked over a tin can and was now scurrying around. I grabbed my knife and took care of him quick. That's when I realized I was the only one up. It was weary and very dark. I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face in some places. I took my 1911 pistol just in case and explored.

I could barely see, so I made my way to the lobby. The door front was blocked off and there were to doorways on each side of the room. Each said "Systems" above them. I walked down the right one and right before I walked outside onto a cat walk, the ground below gave out with a loud crash and an accidental gunshot as I tried to make a fist with the gun in my hand.

Soon after I heard running down the stairs. Soon, a flashlight shined down at me. Darrel chuckled at me as he looked down at me. "Found the basement did you?"

I would have found his joke funny, but at the moment I think Im in danger. I had heard a snarl and knew I wasn't alone. "Toss the light down." I said sternly. Darrel noticed the worry in my voice and tossed it down. When I cought it, I shined it in front of me.

Dogs! Three feral dogs had me cornered. I let out a shrill scream, raised my pistol, and fired at them.

I hit one, killing him. Another ran to another part of the basement. The last tried to pounce on me.

I put my arm up to defend myself, only to have him latch onto my arm. The pain was so bad I dropped my gun. It let another bullet lose, the recoil sliding it away from me. Thats when I grabbed my knife, stabbing him in the stomach. It whined and fell to its side. I kneeled above the suffing canine as it tried to get back up, only to fall back down in pain.

I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath, putting my knife to its neck. I quickly thrusted my arm forward into its throat, killing him instantly. I grabbed my gun and stood up, walking towards the hole in the ground, putting my arm up to be pulled up. I took Darrel's hand and began to climb up.

Right before I was out, the last dog grabbed onto my pants leg and wouldn't let go. I tugged my leg enough until he just got a chunk of my pants. I quickly scurried up and looked at my bite.

Every began comforting me, telling me put pressure on the wound, take deep breaths, things like that as some girl with black hair went to get me a bandage. I walked into the lobby and took one of the chairs off the front doors barricade and sat down.

The girl came back in a bit with bandages and wrapped them around my arm. It was only a matter of seconds before they soaked in blood, but they worked. I stood up and looked at everyone as they stared at me.

"Don't worry about me. Cuts and bruises that's all." I said. They all walked off and let out sighs of relief.

Following the others brought me to the room the meeting was in last night except Lilly was there. Apparently, she knew a lot about explosives and we would be setting terrorist like attacks on the slavers.

Once the explosions began, so would the war. All the people who were in on it were given guns to retaliate with.

"We have multiple bombs in places all around the slave area buildings. Once the explosions start, push your way up to the main bosses tower, then who ever gets there first gets the honor of killing him. Who's ready?"

Everyone in the room shouted and pit their guns in the air. I walked back to the sewer system. I walked trough it back to the ladder, into the alley way, and to the gas station. The light on the milk gang refrigerator had died and it was completely dark. I walked to the rubble covered door and moved the sheet metal out of the way, making my way back into the slave area. I walked through the mostly empty street back to the hotel building we were staying at.

I made my way up the stairs and stopped at burners bar. It was bustling perusal with drunken slavers with the sent of wasted alcohol filling the air. I made my way to the bar and started talking to Burner.

"So how did you get mixed up with these lad's anyways?" I asked him. He chuckled at my Irish accent and answered.

"I was forced to join or die. I would do anything to get out of here." He had a sad look in his eyes. Well eye, since he had to wear an eye patch. I looked around and pulled him close.

"Tonight a rebellion is happening. Your bar is a bomb target so leave before eleven PM. Im not saying you have to help, but I want you to get out of here." I let go and he moved back and nodded at me. I nodded back and walked to the apartment building and to my room. It was around seven AM and I heard Raymir and Josh talking.

I pushed open the door and they were eating. They waved me over to have some food. It was starting to get dark out so I turned on the industrial light in our room first then went to eat. I sat at the table and looked at my food. I was to anxious for what would happen tonight to eat. Plus it was beans again, so I just gave it to Raymir.

"Its tonight." I said to break the silence. Josh and Raymir looked at me with mixed emotions on their faces. "All the rebel slaves know and are ready to fight. We should make our way to the working area."

Josh walked over to the bed and grabbed his AK-47 with one hand and his glock in the other. "Im ready. Lets get this done."

Raymir put his sniper and held his Škorpion vz.61 gun in both hands. He said nothing, just checked his gun and nodded he was ready.

I nodded back without a word as well. I held my mossberg by its barrel grip and handle, ready to use it. We walked out of the room slowly. I looked at all the slavers. All the faces that would be killed. I felt disorientated. Dizzy. I started feeling sick, but managed to get out of the hall. We made our way into burners bar and he was gone. Good, I don't want him hurt.

We walked down the metal stairs out of the tops into the work area. Just then, I heard and explosion, and the building behind us collapsed. Slaves below us began revolting and attacked guards with from guns, shovels, to sharpened pieces of rebar and even their hands.

I raised my shotgun to the head one of the slavers sitting down and pulled the trigger. Blood flew everywhere has a chunk of her head was liquefied only leaving the left side of her head on. Slavers who stood up were gunned down by Josh and Raymir.

We walked down the stairs and the final slaver was being tossed into one of the furnace's by a few slaves. When they finished, they all turned to us. They were expecting a speech. Shit, I didn't expect this. I had nothing pre-thought out. Im gonna have to make one up.

"This might seem disencouraging. You all are in nothing more than rags with sharp pieces of metal, facing a army of geared up, fed brutes. But look at this, the bodies of those who once oppress you. With our numbers combined, we can destroy these people. Now raise your weapons in power!"

They let out a battle cry and held up their weapons and charged at the building. The sky was red as fires grew and explosions roared all around the walled up area. I followed the army of ragged survivors out of the factory and examined the situation.

There were two paths for me to take. One street where most of the fighting was happening, the other was an inferno with fires and rubble falling from the collapsing buildings. I pointed down the burning steet and began running, Josh and Raymir behind me. We gunned down anyone in our path and the smoke worked as a good hiding place.

When everything started to feel to easy, I heard something explode above me. I looked up and saw rocks falling from a building a few feet away, but Josh and Raymir were far enough away for the rubble to land and cut us off. Looks like I'll be heading up alone.

I gripped my shotgun with a passion and continued on my path.
