Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Jacks pov

A small smile played on my lips as I remembered the day we had bought Jessie.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning..a past life, where mom was alive...and dad...was there for me...

"Captain Jackie! your ship is ready!", dad smiled mischievously.

"Ohh daadddyyy did you build me a ship?!!", I had cried with happiness only a 4 years heart could know.

Dad had led me to the garage where I saw a car... a beautiful sky blue car.

"Meet Jessie, captain, your ship ", his eyes had twinkled with love and pride.

"But where is its name dad!", I had pouted..my four-year-old mind associating ships with their names written in bold.

And that was the moment we christened our Chevrolet Cruze Jessie, her name carved on the dashboard by dad.

"Jesus kid I want the stuff this year!", shouted Amelia as I grimaced and revved up the engine.

I went to Walmart, 3 km away to buy the groceries. As I neared the stationary section, something sparkling caught my eye. An old woman sat in a small makeshift stall with beautiful jewels spread on her table.

That's strange. Was she even allowed to sell those stuff? nevertheless, I went to her stall, strangely attracted towards the jewels.

"May I help you, dear sir? ", the old woman croaked. She wore tattered and dirty clothes, however, the most startling feature were her eyes, a swirling purple, mesmerizing as if they held knowledge beyond imagination.

" That would be a very nice choice sir, for your girl I suppose? well, that would make it $ 30", she cackled breaking my chain of thoughts.

Confused I looked down only to see myself clutching a beautiful necklace of sterling silver with a deer for a pendant, it was breathtakingly beautiful.

$ 30... I checked my pocket but only found $ 10 rest were Amelia's..and for some unknown reason I became sad.

Wait why was I sad for not being able to buy a pendant?

The old women seemed to notice my confusion " Yada Yada young man, $10 would do too I can do that much for your love", she cackled as I made the purchase.

Dazed, I walked down the aisle to make other purchases but when I turned back, she was gone.

And so was the makeshift stall.

I shuddered to find the whole ordeal unsettling. I made my purchases as soon as possible and drove as fast as I could to give the stuff to Amelia.

Oh boy, Sam would kill me if I reached late for my shift.

Sarahs pov

Suddenly the atmosphere seemed to tense up. I slowly walked towards the window and took my bracelet.

I sighed in relief when I found it unbroken. But something was weird about it.

I realized my deer charm was missing....but instead a beautiful crystal..the color similar to my eyes was attached in its place. I dropped it in fear, but just as it was about to fall down, Bruno appeared from nowhere and caught it in his mouth. Giving me a somewhat disapproving look, he trotted back upstairs leaving me dumbfounded.

What did just happen? I shrugged off the unsettling feeling trying to catch me in its vice-like grip, instead, I concentrated on feeding myself.

My stomach growled as I opened the fridge, only to find some bitten leftovers of the once delicious lasagna.

Trust mom to keep it in the last rack, knowing Bruno loved lasagna much more than me.

I sighed as I ordered two large pizzas and a mouth-watering choco lava cake and trotted upstairs to finish my long forgotten calculus.

..........................................................................

"WOOF!", barked Bruno as my stomach growled for the umpteenth time.

"Ugh BRUNO! shush, I am on the last question, it's just my stomach grumbling thanks to you", I replied sarcastically as my hand flew struggling to solve the last equation.

Just as I was about to cancel my order and give the pizza company a piece of my mind the doorbell rang.

Thanking the heavens I ran down to get the door, flung it open and was about to the scold the delivery boy when I noticed who he was.

My breath hitched.

"Sorry ma'am for the delay ", he mumbled trying to find something in his pockets as his cinnamon scent overwhelmed my senses.

As he looked up, I blinked embarrassed to realize I was staring at him.

"Hi Sarah", he chuckled.

And as if on cue, my stomach grumbled in response.
