Chapter 7 - When it Rains, It pours (4)

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

Kei lurched backwards from the oncoming hand, accidentally hitting the back of his head on the backboard of the small bed.

The shadow flinched at the shrill cry from the cloud boy then cocked its head in confusion. 'Was I really that scary?' it thought.

Kei was so confused about what was happening. Initially, he had thought that the shadow in front of him was a trick of the mind in the dark. However, after blinking and furiously trying to wipe the sleep from his eyes, Kei stared in disbelieve as he came to the realization that the thing in front of him was real. Fear overtook his body. His 'flight or fight' responses activated causing Kei to thrust his left leg towards the supposed mid-section of the creature. The creature seemed to sense his intentions, so in defense, it reached out its long black arms and grabbed Kei's foot tightly. Kei yelp in pain. Its grip was akin to an alligator latched onto its prey; no matter how hard Kei tried to shake it off, the hand still held on.

The shadow leaned the place where its face would be close to Kei's face.

"Quite the kick you've got there. A little to slow, but a good distribution of force, hehe. My hand even hurts a lil' bit. We can fix that later."

Kei froze. It spoke? English? Did it just compliment his feeble attack on it? What did it mean by fixing it later??!

"Hello? You still in there? It would be bad if I had to search for your soul after I was just able to find you." The shadow spoke again in a joking tone.

"Y-y-you… W-what are you? W-why a-are you looking f-for me?" Then a thought flashed through Kei's head. "If it's about the library, I didn't do anything! It was like that when I got there!"

The shadow chuckled.

" I know you didn't do anything at the library, because I did, Hehe!"

"Ehhhhh!" Kei was hit with another wave of shock.

Just as Kei was about to ask the shadow man why he would do something so terrible as to kill a couple of high-schoolers [even though they deserved, in Kei's honest opinion] when there was loud shuffling in the corridors.

[SKAAASKAAASKEEEEESKAA]

"What was that?"

"How the hell should I know?"

"You're a shadow monster! You go check it out!"

"You're the one with the 'Awakening'! You go check!"

"…," [The what now?]

"Together then?"

"sure… as long as you won't kill me like those bullies"

"Deal!"

The shadow creature and Kei walked towards the door and peered out into the dimly lit hallway. There, a man dressed as a priest stood staring directly at the duo. Kei heard the shadow man curse under its breath, mumbling that they had found them way too quick, but before he could even ask who the man was and why the man was being a creepy lurker, He rushed Kei.

Before Kei could react, the shadow man pushed Kei out of the oncoming attack.

PLAAP

The sound of flesh hitting flesh reverberated around the corridor. The man had thrusted his had out with the intention of stabbing Kei, however, because of the shadow's interference, he had was now trapped between two black ones. The man looked at the shadow and sneered.

"…Traitor."

Although his face was a shroud of voided black, Kei somehow knew that the shadow man smiled upon hearing that term.

'…Wait…had they both been on the same side?!' Kei thought before witnessing the shadow man casually toss the crazed priest through one of the other doors in the hall.

Shadow man ran towards the fallen man, his inky hand now sharp like a sword. It aimed for the man's heart. The man saw the attack and rolled out of the way just as the shadow's hand punctured the floor below. The hand had gone too deep and the shadow could not pull himself out. Seeing this as an opportunity, the man turned towards Kei.

Kei noticed that the man's eyes were now black with inky smoke trailing from them. 'Definitely not something a man of God would have.' Kei thought as the man rushed him.

The man was only a couple of inches from Kei when a shadow hound grabbed his arm, holding him back from his prey. Kei was in shock as his mind did not have time to understand what was happening.

The man looked at the hound with great detest. With a WOOSH, the man swung the hound around, using it's mass as a weapon aimed at Kei's head.

Kei's body reacted automatically by dropping to the floor to avoid the attack. The only thought going through his mind was wondering why the random guy was attacking him!

The rotating hound missed its target, slamming into the wall behind where Kei would have been. The impact caused the shadow dog to yelp in agony, giving the intruder a chance to escape it's jaws. Free at last, the man lifted his leg and mercilessly kicked the fallen Kei in the stomach. Kei spat up blood. His consciousness began to fade.

seeing that Kei was incapacitated, the deranged man in priest clothes grabbed him up by the collar, preparing to take him away. However, when he turned around, the man saw a short old man wearing a similar priesthood uniform staring at him with his mouth agape.

"Who are you? Why are you hold my Kei like that?! What did you do to him!!??! Let the boy g-!"

Before the old priest could finish speaking, his heart was pierced by the man who practically teleported two inches from his face. The Mad man was highly annoyed. This mission was taking way too long to complete and if the sun rose before he brought the boy, he would be a wondering spirit. Now even this old man was trying to go against him!
