Eric Jonas
Her angelic face is so clear within my sight. I want to keep her safe until the morning comes. I wasn't unable to sleep despite the happening. Ever since then, tears continued flowing. Ken, Benjie, My Classmates, then My Adviser. There could be some who survived after the incident but the chances of them surviving is quite impossible. Every room is probably illuminated by gas. Everyone was gone.
It's only me and her, and I am willing to sacrifice my soul to let her live, that's the reason I'm here, stayed awake, trying to protect her at all cost. She's the last, I can't afford to lose anyone else.
I gaze once again at her angelic face, that keeps reminding me of heaven, but who cares, another painful memory of the past.
Soft light illuminates the room with soothing effect in the eyes. An early morning and a smile carved on my lips. "Eric, your milk is ready!" My mom called me downstairs, my loving mom.
I neatly fixed my bed and headed to the dining, and sat comfortably to my personalised seat created by my dad.
Every morning is like this, and everyday I am praying that this would be infinite, infinity like my age, eight.
"Here's the cookie," she put down the tray of cookies with their rising aroma that always gives me the appetite to eat. "Thanks Mom." I smile excitedly as I dive my hands into the tray. My mom, with her neverending smile added my appetite.
"I heard you got A yesterday," she smiled with a clap. "Yes Mommy! It was the easiest!" I pridefully said with a punch on the air. "Congratulations!" She clapped making my day always the best.
Yawn comes near the dining and a sniff. "Dad!" I yelled bubbly, kicking my feet that doesn't reach the ground. "You're late in waking up again, I always beat you." I held my two arms in the air like hulk.
"Hahaha, you silly kid." He tapped my head and kissed my mom in the forehead. I always thought, this has been the perfect family.
"Dad, do you have work today?" I asked. "No kiddie, I did it online last night." He replied.
"Yay! We will go picnic!" I yelled with excitement. "But you have classes today." Mom pouted. I was tinged with a bit of frustration.
"That's not a problem," my mouth formed an "o" shape waiting for my Dad's better idea, of course he is the best. "Why don't we have our dinner in Diamond? Didn't I promise you to bring you there back?" I can't help but to stand in my chair and started jumping. Then I fell in a silly way, but it doesn't hurt.
My Dad laugh at me but Mom carried me with caring look and put me back to my chair. She gaze devilishly then to my Dad who keeps on laughing at my silly fall.
After breakfast I went to school wearing my biggest smile, as always.
After class, my Dad with my Mom inside the car greeted me outside the gate. "Let's go?" Dad said as he removed his black tinted glasses. I hopped in the car and drove to my favorite resto.
We are currently on the way when Dad slowed down due to the slippery road after rain. I was just then, we heard bullets broking the windows of the car's back.
"Down!" My father commanded. He swiftly drive the car as the car's tire was hit by the bullet causing the car to lose balance and bump the tree on the right side, where my mom was seated.
Next thing I knew, I lost my consciousness. Days passed, it was my mom's funeral.
"Why are you crying?" A voice interrupt me from remembering those days. "Oh, sorry." I apologized as I wipe my tears off.
"Thanks, for saving me." She rise up from my legs and put her head on my shoulder.
"What happened? Why are you crying?" She asked with her soft voice.
"It's nothing." I replied.
"No, bring it out." She looks me directly at my eyes. "It's not good keeping it inside." Then pointed my chest.
"Don't make me an idiot."
"Making you an idiot? Please lighten me up." She said, confused. "You know, whatever it is. Just let your tears fall, it will make you better."
"That's the reason. After crying, it will make you enlighten, with no reasons after all. Just a stupid body."
"Then whatever it is, remember that I'm here." She then caress my back.
"My mom." Those were rough words that came out from my mouth. "Gazing at you remembers those painful moments."
"What happened?" She asked.
"Someone chased us, then she died. We tried reporting but ended up with no clues. I'm so sorry, I'm blaming you." I said
"No it's okay. A world with ups and downs, with positivity and negativity, with black and white. Those were normal and I call it life."
