Chereads / The nuclear test (Rough draft) / Chapter 55 - Verdict

Chapter 55 - Verdict

I've been waiting here for who knows how long already... Are they out there deciding what to do with me? This chair is uncomfortable as hell too. I'll try my best to sleep for now I guess... I close my eyes and fall asleep.

I'm woken up by the sound of the door in front of me. Lily along with two more unknown presence walk into the place. The two unknown presences are one male and one female. The female is wearing formal clothes.

She looks like the one who's leading all of them, that's probably the case. She has brown air and blue eyes, very white skin and has a big bust, she's in her twenties as well.

The male next to her has black hair and green eyes, this is the first time I've seen green eyes, his skin color is fairly brown and he looks like he's in his 20's. He's carrying a bag with him with some sort of magical signature. Is the bag enchanted or something?

They walk towards me in a group almost and them almost as if planned the only ones who are actually coming all the way in are the two new people.

"Hello, Luis, my name is Jackelin Robinson, call me Principal Robinson. And next to me is my husband. His name is Carter Robinson." (Principal)

"Sure, what are you here for?" (Luis)

"Very straight to the point are we?" (Principal)

" It'd be stupid if we kept formalities given that I'm strapped to a chair unable to move my limbs" (Luis)

"Very well then, we are here to have you go to our training facilities." (Principal)

I sigh

"Firstly, what makes you think I'm willing to go to those facilities. Secondly, if you somehow convince me what makes you think that I will conform to being in your 'training facilities. And thirdly, what you think I won't try to escape from there as soon as I get the chance.

You trying to recruit me just sounds stupid. You have no guarantees that I won't do that so you would a risk factor in your precious high school. Quite frankly, I don't think you guys are stupid enough to miss those points. Tell me what you're really here for." (Luis)

"No, that's really it. And we do have a way to assure that you won't cause trouble. Carter, bring it out." (Principal)

Out of the bag, he pulls out a sheet of paper that has magical energy, I can barely sense it but it's there. I see, so this must be how they keep their "Magic Soldiers" in line?

"This is a contract that we make people firm, this will guarantee that you don't do anything."

"I see... so what type of magic does that thing have? It's faint but it's there."

"Very perceptive, this was a small thing that we were able to make thanks to something called new waste. Upon the signature of this, you will be under law to follow this, however, you see there's a small tweak on this. The contract gives the party that signs it 5 strikes on specific rules in case there extensions circumstances," She says with a mischievous smile

So she's saying that I'm allowed to break the rules five times?... So I may still be able to do something if I play it smart is what she's saying. And all she's giving me is five moves then? That's certainly interesting coming from the principal of the school.

"I see, so you're saying that if I sign this there is still that kind of leeway?" (Luis)

"Whatever may you be talking about." (Principal)

Well, I got the message. But I still have my doubts.

"A couple of questions then."

I still don't trust her on this.

"I'll try my best to answer."

"Why are you having me sign this? Couldn't you have forced me to do so before?"

"The person has to willingly to sign it in order for the contract to take effect."

I see, well that may be true or they might want me to believe that for now. Well, I'll just acknowledge it.

"Does this 5 strikes rule also apply to the students of the school?"

"Yes, on the case of unforeseen circumstances the students are allowed this strikes and if the school deems it circumstantially correct then one of the strikes can be reduced."

"What happens when you break the rules once, or when you use all 5 strikes?"

"When you break it once you get a slight feeling of pain and a mark will appear on one of the fingers of the hand you signed with. After you break it 5 times you won't even be able to think about breaking the rules since a searing pain will envelop your whole body if you try to."

That sounds interesting, so that is how they keep them in check then?

"If I accepted what grade would I be put on?"

"Even if you're weak compared to most students, due to age constraints you would be going to 9th grade this September."

"...So you're telling me that you will put someone with 5 months of experience in the same grade as people who have 14 to 15 years of experience?"

"...That's all there is to it."

I sigh, well. This will be a horrible year, I won't think about it too much.

"What would happen to me if I did not accept this offer?"

"Nothing, you would just live out your days here."

Live out my days here? Is there some sort of reason they can't kill me, like some sort of law in place or is that another trick? There's too much I don't know...actually if there's such legislature in place doesn't that mean that there's a lot of regular human beings in on this. That means there are government officials among others who know about magic soldiers if that's the case then.

"Do the same rule apply to regular human beings?"

"...I see what you're getting at. No, regular human beings get a different contract with no strikes. They follow the law no matter how much they try to go against it."

So people without magic cannot unfollow? If that's the case then what about all of the corrupt government officials out there? Unless there isn't a rule against corruption. But that doesnt make much sense...Well, I'll just let that be, that's not my aim anyway.

I don't think I have any more questions for now. And I will be able to find some answers if I join. But before I join.

"In that case, before I make my decision, I'd like to see the contract."

"Certainly, Carter, unlock one of the cuffs and give him the paper."

Carter takes out a stone out of his bag and presses it against the lock. After 5 seconds of both of them being in contact with one another the lock disappears. Is this another type of magic that I'm unaware of?... This is no time to try and see to every question I have, I'll focus on what's happening right now.

"Here." (Carter)

He hands me the contract, it's only one page long. I look at all the rules.

Upon the rights given by this contract, whoever signs this contract will be recognized as the second party in the following and the contractor will be recognized as the first party.

1.) The second party not allowed to take anyone else's possessions without their consent. If any possession(s) is taken then it should be returned within 12 hours or the second party will have broken this rule

2.)The second party is to be within the bounds of the academy by 12 a.m. every day.

3.)The second party is restricted to the usage of magic that harms others only within the designated areas and in emergencies.

4.)The second party is not allowed to force a duel. Unless it is the second party's permitted force duel, forced duel rules will apply.

5.)The second party is to follow the faculties' commands unless it is harmful to you and those around you.

6.)The second party may be deemed acceptable for certain priveledges by the teacher based on your rank, said priveledges will be decided by the principal and teachers.

7.)Further rules will be made by the principal,vice-principal, or student council if the situation is deemed appropriate. At that time the student body will vote on the rule and over three-fourths of the student body is to be in agreement. The vote will be handled by bullets and handled by the student council with the supervision of either the principal or vice-principal.

8.) The second party is to not harm the facilities or teachers outside of the training area on purpose.

9.)The second party will be provided a phone by the schools and said phone is only allowed to be away from you during fights, and when a faculty member is taking care of it. Otherwise, if the phone is to be within 5 meters of yourself and may not be separated from yourself for more than 1 hour.

10.)The second party is allowed to break the aforementioned clauses 5 times provided there's a reasonable explanation. If the explanation is deemed reasonable then the first party may choose to remove the mark or marks obtained when the rules were broken.

11.)Sex will only be allowed by the consent of both parties.

12.)Whenever the first party or any faculty give a punishment, it shall fit the rule that was broken and to what extent.

13.)The second party will re-sign this contract in the next presidential election year.

14.)Only in the state of emergency declared by the contractor will the aforementioned rules be found null. In such a state of emergency, the second party is to hide during the state of emergency and will return to the facilities.

There are some very interesting rules over here, especially numbers 11 and 6. But that probably has to do with the academy's culture rather than anything else. Also, why are there so few rules in this place? There are so many things that I believe should be prohibited. There really is something interesting going on in the facility.

Maybe the reason for this is rule number 7. So there are basic rules made and then they are further developed depending on the student council or principal/ vice-principal?... (Authors note: This gimmick is just in case I missed something, or it could also be a set-up, who knows?)

There's also the three clauses below that can't be broken, but just because it isn't here there doesn't mean there isn't a loophole. So I either sign this and have five strikes every four years to get out or I don't sign and stay here, or get killed since I don't think that they'd just keep me alive. Well, I guess I'll choose the most sensible one.

"I accept your conditions."

"I knew you would say that, here a pen for you to sign with."
