Chapter 43 - Game or Truth?

The game started with Idril's white pawn. They progressed to 12 moves before Feanor sacrificed one of his pawns to get at Idril's rook. But she was faster and claimed her first truth.

"Mr Frasier, I will start with something simple. First kiss?" was Idril's first question.

Feanor answered with a grimace, "Kate."

"Umm. The bond run much deeper than I thought." Idril teased him to which Feanor narrowed his eyes. They resumed playing.

Next was Idril's turn as she lost her knight. She chose dare.

"Let's see." Idril knew it was going to be naughty with Feanor's wink at her. "Kiss your favorite part of me."

"What?" She was genuinely taken aback. But she recovered and leaned forward to place two kisses on the two sides of his jaws.

"Interesting." was all he said.

Idril lost her pawn. As a dare, she had to cat walk from the fountain to the canopy.

Next was Feanor's turn.

"What is one of your wild fantasies that you have lived."

"Cycling in the Alps."

"Ooh, how sporty."

It went on till the board got emptier. Idril always chose dare while Feanor chose truths.

"And Check. Ha-ha." Idril said with a flourish. "Do I get a truth out of you for that?" she asked eyes dancing with excitement.

"Yeah why not. I'd say you earned it." Feanor was generous.

"Let me see, it has to be a good one." With her fingers on her chin, she cast her mind around to come up with a good question.

"Okay, I have got one. The first time you, uh.." Idril cleared her throat, "pleasured yourself."

Feanor opened his mouth to answer and suddenly he froze. His gaze shifted and the smile disappeared. His tone uncharacteristically sombre, he replied, "When I was 13."

"Not your age. The first ever incident."

All she got in reply was a shrug and "Don't remember."

The mood had shifted and had become sombre. They finished the game in silent which Idril won. But she was done with her questions.

Feanor packed the game and placed it back under the mattress. Leaving her sitting on the bed, he started walking towards the lake. Soon, he went out of her sight.

Idril waited for him for several minutes but in vain. He never returned. So she left to find the rest of the family.

Much later that evening, when she was sitting in the family room with the all of his family and enjoying the various rituals the bride and groom were going through, Feanor reappeared. but he wasn't alone. He came with Kate hanging from his arms.

"Feanor's mother called him, "Fea, where were you all this time?" Her eyes lingered on Kate's fingers which were clutching Feanor's sleeves and her voice turned cooler. "Did you two go to a bar?"

"Yes mother." was all Feanor said and went sat in one of the empty chairs. He completely ignored Idril. Kate however, sauntered towards Idril and made herself comfortable beside her on the sofa.

She smiled sweetly at Idril, "Honey, I do hope you don't get the wrong idea. I just found your boyfriend sitting at the bar and he looked so lonely. He seemed glad to have my company. Why weren't you with him? Oh well, that's none of my business." She said condescendingly, clearly implying something else. "We just had a chat, that's all."

Idril looked at her. "I am sorry. Who are you again?" she said smiling equally sweetly.

Kate 's smile faltered at the obvious insult but she manager to hold it together. "Kate. We met this morning."

"Oh right, you are the one he was trying to avoid." Idril pretended to remember.

Kate flushed. Idril continued, "Heard you ruined his life. Is that why Mrs. Frasier doesn't like you?" she asked with fake concern.
