Chapter 19 - Against The Horde 2

BOOM!

The ground shattered against the large tree that came bearing down like a war god's hammer.

The silence of the night was washed away by a resounding powerful explosion of sound. Dust arose high up into the air and even the forest of shadow's canopy wasn't able to stop it from rising.

Dozens of goblins were crushed under the powerful combination of Grant's sheer strength and the uprooted tree's weight. Screams of terror and shock filled the air while Grant lay in the middle of the destruction he had caused.

The dust that rose into the air obscured everyone's vision within the area. Be it monster or human.

"Grant..." Beatry who was carrying all of the gobs caught up with Grant who raised a hand in her direction to silence her.

"Dust is rising everywhere, this is the perfect chance for all of you to escape!" With the dust rising and clouding everyone's vision, Grant had found the perfect opportunity to let Beatry and his gobs to escape.

"What about yo-"

"I said I'll be fine! Now go!"

Beatry had wanted to stubbornly take Grant away with her to escape but before she could even try to ask Grant to escape with them, she was already shot down by the man. She bit her lip in frustration before nodding solemnly.

The five ran through the cover and once in a while they would see a goblin that would jump at them to attack but they were quickly dispatched by Grant.

Crushing goblin skulls were an easy but messy process.

"There!" Grant saw an opening. The dust was beginning to settle down and only a few seconds more and their cover would be blown. A vacant spot where goblins and beasts were far from had opened up.

It was too vacant as if it was enticing them to rush and leave using that route. Grant turned towards his party with his calm and tranquil look.

"No matter what happens. Even if a dragon pops out before you do not stop running!"

"Mn..." Beatry nodded and the gobs seemed to be unwilling to go but Grant flashed them a slight smile.

"How many times do I have to say I'll be fine. Are you looking down at me?" He chuckled and the goblins frantically shook their head. Grant felt something cling onto his leg but he ignored it.

It was probably just some small animal that could pose no threat to him.

Beatry and the gobs ran to the clearing and Grant looked around. He found a boulder. It was as tall as a human and looked to be quite painful if it was thrown at something. Even if that thing was something large like a bear.

Beatry ran while the gobs clung to her. And just as Grant had mentioned, a Dragon did emerge from with the forest. It stared daggers at them and for a second they froze.

It mouth was open, ready to blast them with whatever fog of green breath that was accumulating inside its throat.

"Run!" Grant's shout echoed through the area and the dust had subsided, everything was fully visible now while the moon shone brilliantly, illuminating the forest.

Beatry despite being afraid, ran straight towards the large scaly creature.

She could see its mouth curve up slightly as if it was smiling and mocking her decision. With a wide open mouth, the fog of dense green mist accumulating in its mouth was about to blast the three with full fury.

Bang! But a well timed boulder had flew and blocked the dragon's mouth.

Beatry took the chance and successfully escaped with two goblins clinging to her while the one who was only moments away from killing them was gagging on a rock.

The large lizard choked due to the back flow of its powerful breath attack.

Grant took the chance to climb a tree and hide himself. He needed time to think.

Beatry and the two goblins wouldn't be able to escape if he didn't do something to act as a distraction. For sure they would die at the hands of the cowardly dragon who was the orcestrator of everything.

It had wanted to keep its existence a secret after all. That was mainly the reason why it did things quietly and manipulated the forest to its own desire.

'No wonder no one lives to tell the tale after entering the inner circle...' Grant thought and he looked down. His eye twitched.

There was a goblin who was holding a staff, quietly looking at him with a tilted head.

"Why are you here???" He nearly screamed that question out loud and the goblin just raised an arm and patted its bicep.

Grant felt like he was going to have a headache. All his effort to let the others escape and one of them sticks behind. He then remembered the feeling of something clinging on his leg moments earlier.

[The goblin is eligible for naming and a class] The system then sounded out in his head like a suggestion. A suggestion that Grant had seen as a possible way of increasing his chances escape.

"From now on your name will be Deck." Grant named the goblin who cried out in happiness. It glowed before a huge status window filled up Grant's vision.

Grant quickly scanned all the classes and took note of all the world influence type classes being grayed out.

He squinted his eyes. 'Those things should be roaming the world right now' Grant thought as he was bound to run into one which was dangerous.

Grant showed the magic type classes to his little goblin and the only options it could choose was the [Magus] [Witch] [Bard] and [Occultist] classes.

Stella was an example of someone who took the Magus path. Excelling in controlling and harnessing the power of elements.

Occultists are those who tap into the power of dark art or black magic. Bringing forth the forces of darkness and evil to their command.

Bards empowered their allies and influenced the battlefield on a whole scale.

And lastly, witches were users of curse magic. Using hexes that make life miserable for their foes. Be it somehow inserting an insect inside someone for it to multiply and one day burrow out.

Or generally just casting misfortune on them.

Deck, the goblin glowed with an odd light upon tapping a class and Grant received a notification.

[Your underling (Deck) has been bestowed with the [Witch] Class.]

Grant narrowed his brows in amusement and he scanned the battlefield. Now that he had a witch with him, he should be able to increase his chances of survival.

There was no way he would be able to escape without having to face the wrath of the over sized winged lizard and its army.

[You have learned [Discerning Eye Lv 1]

Grant heard the system in his mind again but he ignored it for now. The dragon who was coughing and gagging on the rock he had shoved up its mouth had enough.

With a single bite, the boulder was crushed into smaller rocks. It huffed heavily and breathed a dense fog of green mist into the battlefield.

The area became saturated with green mist and the faint smell of decay became ever so present. They were moving into phase two of the fight. Grant looked at Deck who was staring dumbly at the air.

The goblin was engrossed in looking at it's new attributes and the constant influx of information buffeting its mind.

Whenever a class is bestowed to a creature, their base attributes shoot up and profession related skills are given to them. If the class was related to magic, basic knowledge of magic would flow into their head.

Allowing them to cast low level spells.

Terrunn, despite being a world governed by a system, it is still a real world. It wasn't a game.

Skills from video games like [Block] are not given here. And to cast a spell, one must know the rules of magic and knowledge of the spell meant to be cast.

'The system won't babysit you after all...' Grant had concluded while he was preparing himself to dive.

Once Deck sorts his thoughts out and becomes ready for support, Grant would throw himself into the hundreds of monsters that was looking for them.
