The meal was prepared at lightning speed, but it was still fragrant and delicious. It was made with the freshest organic ingredients that could be produced.
Although there were only five dishes and a soup, Yu Huiyin still felt that it was a bit too much for them alone, but she had understood not to complain about it.
She knew that Xie Jingyu had already compromised as much as he could. He was used to eating much more varied than what she was, but to not seem so extravagant, he had changed it to merely five dishes and a soup.
The two were eating together, but Xie Jingyu noticed that Yu Huiyin had a taste for prawns. However, her ability to deshell them was simply horrendous, so he began taking the shell off them and placed them in her bowl afterward.
Seeing this, Yu Huiyin, who had been more affected by the article about her half-sister than she had thought, suddenly felt a burst of warmth in her heart. Even if she did not have her mother any longer, she was no longer alone.
Even her ally was such a good person, helping and taking care of her, how could she possibly be unhappy?
The smile she had had so far had a bit of sadness within, and while Yu Huiyin had not noticed it, Xie Jingyu had seen her sadness. However, when he saw her smiling now, it was such a brilliant smile that he almost lost himself in looking at it, and his heart was beating rapidly; he was much more pleased looking at her like this.
The meal was eaten in silence, but the silence was not awkward. Instead, it was comfortable. Seeing how the shelled prawns appeared in her bowl one after another, she felt it amusing. Even if she liked prawns, there was no way she could finish them all.
Without overthinking about it, she used her chopsticks to pick one of the prawns and feed it to Xie Jingyu, after which she continued to eat with her head held low, and sometimes she would feed Xie Jingyu with prawns.
Xie Jingyu was feeling blissful. He had started peeling prawns for Yu Huiyin because she liked the prawns, but he was getting something extra in the shape of being fed by her. He was simply over the moon.
Yu Huiyin was unaware that her actions had caused such happiness to appear in Xie Jingyu's heart. Yu Huiyin did not think too much about it. She just felt that he was kind to her, so she should return the favor. Also, he was the one shelling them all, so he should be able to taste their deliciousness.
After the meal, Yu Huiyin looked at her stomach, her hands touching it gently. "I am so stuffed," she said with a bit of regret. "I did not think that, one day, I would eat so much. I will become a little piggy."
"Even if you become a piggy, you'll be mine, so don't worry and eat. You are already a bit too skinny; getting some meat on those bones would not harm you." Xie Jingyu was not lying. Although Yu Huiyin had a great body, it was slightly malnourished from not taking care of herself throughout the many years she had worked.
It was rare for her to eat home-cooked food, and even when she was working, she'd eat whatever she could, and often things that were very cheap. That being the case, some days, she would live a whole day on one muesli bar.
Yu Huiyin thought that Xie Jingyu was joking, and she stuck out her tongue at him with a mischievous expression. She hurried up to the bedroom, where she found a nightgown and went to the bathroom to wash.
While Yu Huiyin was washing, Xie Jingyu went to the study to deal with some papers. He had a video conference later that day, but before that, he gave Assistant Song a call.
"Boss, I already did everything you asked of me," he said grievously as he saw that his boss was calling him when he finally had an evening off.
"Something happened in the entertainment news that made Huiyin unhappy. I want to know what it was." Xie Jingyu completely ignored the grieved voice of Assistant Song and told him his order, causing Assistant Song to curse under his breath.
However, he dared not go against his boss, and he hurried to find the news. Scrolling through them, he quickly found the story of Yu Bingqing.
"Her father is directing a movie for her half-sister, that Yu Bingqing woman from the mistress he married. Apparently, it is a big thing, and everyone is praising him as the ideal father figure, to treat his adopted daughter so well."
Xie Jingyu listened, and his eyes shone coldly, the gentle demeanor which had been present in front of Yu Huiyin was nowhere to be seen.
"Start a rumor about Yu Bingqing being his mistress," Xie Jingyu sneered. "I cannot interfere directly. I promised her not to get involved, but that does not mean that I will accept them making my woman sad. Seeing him spoiling her so openly, it is easy to spread a rumor like this. It's even better than him being the biological father of this Yu Bingqing, he will be hurt much more this way."
Hearing how Xie Jingyu referred to Yu Huiyin as his woman, Assistant Song really wanted to ask if it did not hurt his consciousness to claim she was his woman when she was not even looking his way. Still, he knew better than to do something that suicidal, so he accepted his mission, lamenting the lousy luck of Yu Jingshen. He just had to be a trashy father to Yu Huiyin, when he could have been the biggest winner of them all.
