After leaving the rental store, Yu Huiyin and assistant Song headed straight to the slums. It was a weekday, and during that time her little brother would be at school.
Even so, Yu Huiyin still wished to hurry home, she had to convince her old grandfather to move, and also explain her new job.
Although she could not talk about the fact she had gotten married, she could at least tell them about her job as his assistant.
But her grandfather was a shrewd old man. He was like an old fox, very hard to trick, so she was going over every possible scenario, preparing for what might happen when she got home.
Assistant Song had never been to the slums before, and as they drove down the narrow streets and alleyways that were bustling with pedestrians and very few cars, he felt that this place was indeed not suitable for his madam and her family to live.
This area was truly in need of renovation.
Yu Huiyin felt nothing special returning to the slums. Although she had not been here for a week's time, she was not bothered about being back here now.
The car drove to the apartment complex and parked in a shabby parking space. Here Yu Huiyin got out of the car but told Assistant Song to stay there while she dealt with her grandfather. She did not doubt that it would end up with a war.
Last time she had been away for a night, she was greeted by a ladle thrown at her face; this time, she had been gone for much longer. Maybe she'd even have the cooker thrown at her, if he could still lift it.
She took a deep breath as she was standing outside the door. Pushing it open, she found that her grandfather was seated at the table, sewing small eyes on teddy bears. This was a small task he had taken upon himself to do at home, working to earn a few cents to contribute to their living situation, and her eyes stung slightly with unshed tears as she looked at him.
"Grandfather," she called out quietly, and Old Man Han stopped in his tracks and looked up. His eyes shone, and he was happy now that she had returned, but he was not willing to show weakness, so he scoffed slightly.
"Finally, have you forgotten your home?" he asked with a rough voice, but the shining eyes betrayed his harshness.
Yu Huiyin hurried to his side and sat down beside him. She took a deep breath, and then she looked at him.
"Grandfather, I have found an excellent job," she began.
"It is because of this job that I was gone for so long, but I already got the first payment, and I have rented another flat for us. The flat is in a much better neighborhood, and Feihong will be able to have his own room, even you will have your own room.
"My boss has lent me a car and a driver today so that we can get the necessities needed to live in this flat. Also, from now on, you do not have to do any work; my job is enough to provide for both you and Feihong with no problems!"
She dared not hesitate or pause as she spoke, her eyes were filled with hope, and her eyes were shining brightly.
"What kind of job is it?" Grandpa Han asked hesitatingly. He was not willing to let his granddaughter take any risks just for them to have a better living environment.
"I am an assistant to a rich tycoon. I saved his life by chance, and to reward me, he decided to give me a job."
"A normal assistant?" Grandpa Han was confused, but Yu Huiyin nodded her head. "It is a very common white-collar job. I will do my utmost best to keep the job, and the salary is more than twenty-five thousand yuan a month. I have found an apartment which costs us five thousand a month, and then we will have enough remaining for living expenses, and I will also start investing some money with the help of my boss. He promised to help me become a businesswoman so that my finances would be stable in the future."
This was not entirely true, but she had her plans, and knew that she had to push the blame onto someone. Hence Xie Jingyu became her victim.
Old Man Han was shocked beyond belief. To think that she had gotten such a good job, he was genuinely shocked, but he was also ecstatic.
He wished for nothing more than to give these two children a better life, but he was unable to do so.
Now it seemed that she had found a happy encounter, and she could live a good life. He was content and smiled happily.
"We will go to the mall now," Yu Huiyin suddenly said. "I am going to buy some new clothes for you and Feihong, and then we are going to buy all the necessities that are lacking in the flat. When Feihong is done with school, we will go and pick him up."
Old man Han nodded his head approvingly. He was slightly stunned, but he was also happy. This was like meat pies falling from the sky.
But he was not dumb. He had heard Yu Huiyin say that she had saved this man. This meant that she had been fighting again. He could easily guess that the reason she had not returned was not because of work, but because she was recuperating. Still, he said nothing. She was now considered a grown-up, and since she did not want to worry him, he would not worry her by letting her know that he knew of it.
