Chapter 16 - Some Things Never Change

10:20 a.m.

Acyuta sat at the third row from the front. Second seat from the window. He was busy listening to the lecture given by the teacher while reading on yhe device on the desk. It was all about the history of magic and it's use in our everyday lives.

"This is more than what I could expect." Thought Acyuta as he read through the notes sent by the teacher. If it was Acyuta before this current lifetime, he would most likely not be enthusiastic about this class.

Now, however, with many years of maturity and new found knowledge from the phantom memories, Acyuta felt a lot more comfortable in class. As for the other members around him, the enthusiasm isn't so great for everyone. That doesn't mean that everyone was neglecting their studies, rather, some were very serious.

Acyuta more or less got an idea of how everyone fits in the class. After class began, after he introduced himself and had taken his seat. He had been unconsciously analyzing all that was around him.

There was the girl who had her lunch eaten, she sat near the exit and wore a knights attire. Then there was Kevin the fatty who was seated two desks away from himself.

At the first row, center, was the most popular girl and a beauty at that. Classification, the 'queen Bee'.

Next to the window, right at the back was another student. He wasn't at all listening to the class, instead he had been drawing on his device. Classification, the 'Sketcher'.

Right in front of me was another dude and to his left was a girl. They had been exchanging texts, throwing each other smiles and even blowing each other kisses. Classification, the 'In Luv Couple'.

Again, on different sides of the class, Acyuta could make out some students quietly making some rhythmic noises. One tapping a utensil on the desk, another humming a tune and a third listening in to music via earphones, trying to mimic the words he is hearing and slightly head banging. Classification, the 'Singers and Musicians'. Acyuta with keen hearing and better observational skills was able to determine this.

Apart from them, even though everything in this modern school is digitized. You can always find that person who always leans over to see your work and write what you wrote. Classification, the 'Copying Machine'.

Acyuta could make out more classifications as he analyzed his surroundings. You can't leave out the 'Sports Guy', the weirdos who are 'Different'. The guys who always sit at the back of the class quietly playing games, the 'Back of the Class Crew' or the unusual one who is present but not present, the 'Daydreamer'.

There is also those who are 'Hyperactives', The ones that are 'Stressed Out' and the 'Hard Workers'. Close to the Queen Bee are the girls that can't stop chatting, the 'Gossiping Machines' and you can't forget the 'Class Bully'.

"Is there anyone else I missed out on." Acyuta pondered for a sec, he looked around the classroom full of students as well as a few empty places like the one that became his sitting place. It then dawned on him what was missing.

"Right, can't forget the 'Class Bunkers'.

Acyuta remembered, he to had absconded in his younger days. Knowing the feeling, he was glad to have broken out of that habit, unfortunately, that lifetime was a bit bitter.

"Now that I think about it. It took some years to figure out all these classifications. Year after year when students came to the temple for an excursion, I realized that every class had these classifications." Acyuta remembered his own past experience, he recalled that even when he was schooling he was part of the 'Back of the Classroom Crew'.

"Now, class, scroll down to Michael's evolution law."

Acyuta heard the teacher's instruction and did as told. He scrolled down the device that was a large tablet, connected to the desk before him.

"I see."

Acyuta started reading up the section on Michael's evolution law. It wasn't a law at all. More so, it was about the rarity of magic and the like. Even now in today's society, where magic casters can be seen in abundance, still magic is still a rarity. The number of naturally born casters are still in the triple digits.

Combining the advancement of science, man was able to artificially create magic casters. Many years of experimentation and failure had come and gone until a little chip device was made to mimic naturally born spellcasters. To have that chip implanted into ones body not only required a lot of money, a very good physical constitution and high fortitude were needed to be able to use magic granted by the chip's ability, it was a breakthrough for all of mankind.

PROVOCATION!

"What?" Surprise formed on the face of Acyuta, luckily he didn't speak out aloud and no one seemed to notice. The word 'provocation' appeared like an idea within the former priest's mind.

He immediately understood something, it was those despicable ghostly existence that inhabits his body. So far from Acyuta's view point, his power only reacts to threats to himself. But who would threaten Acyuta?

"I'm a new student, who would want to harm me? Kevin? No. The girl at the exit? Doesn't seem to be her either." Acyuta thought as he hadn't made any enemies and wasn't planning to make any.

"Who..... Heh! Some things never change."

Acyuta figured out who dares to provoke him. 'Class Bully', as a transfer student entering this class and not having anything prominent about himself like a wealthy background or having super good looks. Acyuta was just very ordinary.

"It would seem that the bully wants to assert his dominance over me. He'd most likely die if he attacks me first."

Understanding the situation, Acyuta commanded really hard in his head to find an alternative method other than target elimination.

Just as Acyuta thought, the bully was seated somewhere in the row behind him had thrown something. A crumpled up paper ball flew his way, targeting his head.

"Why use paper in such an advanced era?" Acyuta wanted to ask. He was clearly looking straight forward, there was no way he would know that an object was aiming at his head. Yet he knew.

Actually, a transparent silhouette left the body of Acyuta. The apparition had taken a horse stance at an angle, it's head turn to look at the assailant with dreadful eyes. Because it was linked to Acyuta, he could know what the ghost was seeing.

The ghostly form was ready to receive the crumpled up paper ball. If Acyuta was thinking of causing a deadly scene instead, perhaps the bully would've died right away.

A transparent arm received the flying object with a flicker of movement then it's entire being disappeared. Immediately, the ball of squashed paper hurtled into another direction at rocket speed. All of this happened so fast that no one noticed anything except the bully himself.

PAH!!

"Ow!"

The flying ball smacked the back of the head of a girl... it was the 'Queen Bee'.

Everyone turned to look at the Queen bee, including Acyuta and the teacher. The teacher looked because of the sound. Acyuta looked because he was being a sheep and followed everyone else's move.

The Queen bee held the back of her head with one hand, certainly she felt discomfort there. She picked up the crumpled up paper, at the same time she glanced at the bully with tilted eyebrows. The Queen bee seemed to know the bully's habits. She was definitely not happy at being hit.

On the other hand, the 'Classroom Bully' could only feel the ice cold sweat dripping from his armpits.
