Synopsis
In a world full of people competing on whose stronger and whatever they think there is worth to boast, one would enivitably go with the river's flow. There are those who're truly gifted and seriously lucky or hard-working, maybe both, continuously creating their own legends and their statuses reaching greater heights. People would look up to these people with admiration, I did once…I strained my neck so I stopped doing so. It's their business, why would I care?(✿´‿`) A.N. This is pure fiction, based on author's imagination.

Chapter 1 - Going home seems like a good plan

Life in a village is one I would call peaceful. Not that I had ever stepped out of these fences. That forest is as creepy as always. They did say monsters live within the forest…another reason why I shouldn't go there.

A girl holding a basket filled with vegetables looked at the distance while thinking of such things.

"Wang Jing!" A shout resounded through out the village.

"Ah!"

Remembering what she was supposed to do, the girl, Wang Jing, scurried back home.

"Where did you go again? You're Aunt Mei's house's only a few steps away yet it took you half an inscense to get back home." A middle aged woman reprimanded Wang Jing as soon as she arrived.

"I was busy…" Wang Jing trailed off, unable to make a reasonable excuse.

Her mother, Jia Li, sighed at the sight of her daughter. Jia Li was once called the village's fairy, time may have aged her yet her beauty remained. Now the title has been passed to her daughter. Wang Jing is beautiful, just that she likes to doze off. She has a serious case of lethargicness.

"I'll let this pass but do remember to wake up early tomorrow." Jia Li took the basket from Wang Jing's arms.

"…what for?" Wang Jing looked at her mother as if her mother had imposed a harsh punishment.

"An immortal sect will conduct their annual test on the nearby town." Her mother explained.

"And? What does it have to do with me? They can do whatever they want for all I care." Wang Jing walked towards the table, pulled the chair and snoozed off.

"You have to else the village chief would cry." Jia Li flicked her daughter's forehead.

"Then the village chief should go, why bother me? And for those immortal, I couldn't care less. The village is enough for me." Wang Jing held her forehead, inpecting if a bump had formed.

Jia Li only smiled and didn't say anything. She returned to the kitchen and continued to cook. Wang Jing, not expecting her mother to let her off easily, dozed off again.

Morning had come yet a certain someone curled up on her bed not letting go of her blanket. She didn't know why but she felt uncomfortable. It was as if someone was shaking her. An earthquake? Wang Jing thought so. She slowly opened her eyes only to be greeted by the blinding sun and the trees that continuously pass by. Wang Jing furrowed her brows. She never knew their house could walk.

"You're awake? Great timing! We're almost there." An unknown face greeted her.

There? Where's there? Where's my bed? Why am I in a carriage? More importantly, who are you?

"Uhm…where exactly are we headed?"

"To the town run by the Zhou family, you look like a mess." The girl giggled softly.

Of course, I just woke up. Who in the world would be not in a mess after waking up?

"Why am I exactly here?" Wang Jing tilted her head. She never agreed to go yet here she is, unaware how she got here.

"To take the test silly. I'm Xiurong by the way." Xiurong smiled once more.

Does this girl ever get cramps from smiling?

"Wang Jing"

"I can see the gates, aren't you going to change?" Xiurong wanted to say milder words but ended up blurting it.

Wang Jing only fixed her bed hair.

"It's just a test besides I'd fail so what's the point?" Wang Jing yawned.

Xiurong could feel her eye twitch. She's known to be hard-working and meeting someone so lazy, she wanted to scold the girl. Surpressing her anger she said "Okay" and ignored Wang Jing.

The tense atmosphere didn't go unnoticed by Wang Jing. Other than sleeping, her other talent was reading people. She can fix the situation but didn't. Xiurong would undoubtedly be accepted. Once this girl enters the sect and creates her own legacy, she'll be lucky if Xiurong dubs her as Villager C.

The test was being held at the town plaza. A scholarly guy held a crystal ball and people would go, touch the ball and the ball would indicate if the one who touched it has a spiritual root. Such a simple test was not time consuming. What bothered Wang Jing was how long the queue is. Wang Jing sighed but still lined up.

People were staring at her and started whispering. She could here unaudible words but paid no attention. She had no doubt she was being compared to Xiurong since they both lined up at the same time and was next to each other.

Xiurong had this clean aura and Wang Jing was the polar opposite of that. She wouldn't be shocked if the proctor shooed her away.

"Hey, you"

Wang Jing looked at the voice's source and saw a muscular man. The body head ratio was definitely off the charts. Is he trying to be a body cultivator?

"Me?"

"Who else am I referring to? That's my position, back off." The guy sneered.

Wang Jing looked behind her and the queue became even longer. He's telling me to go to the very back? I'd probably die before I touch the crystal ball.

"Are you listening? You're just some beggar wanting to try your luck! Don't even bother to! You'll fail anyway so leave now!" The guy coldy smiled at Wang Jing as if to tell her she was useless.

Xiurong watched in the sidelines. Truth to be told, she doesn't want to be associated with Wang Jing. Currently, Wang Jing's hair covered her face. Her concept of fixing her hair was something Xiurong couldn't comprehend.

Wang Jing looked at the guy. Was he insulting her or did that include her family too?

"Are you deaf? Go back home beggar. Wait, you don't even have a home. Your family's full of beggars, ain't I right?" The guy probed Wang Jing again.

Xiurong glared at the guy. He stepped out of the line! Before Xiurong could give him a piece of her mind, the warmth of the sun vanished and was replaced by plummeting coldness.

Wang Jing rarely gets angry. If she can avoid trouble, she'd do so. Yet the guy in front of her insulted what mattered to her the most.

The scholarly guy holding the crystal ball felt the chilling cold. A guy walked to the platform. He was still young but his aura was calm as the water. He placed his hand on the ball. The ball lit up. The light diminished but right after the chilling cold plummeted even more. Everyone felt it, they froze on their tracks, unable to move.

The ball lit up again, brighter than before, brighter than any of those who took the test. Moments after the ball shattered. If it was broken to pieces the scholarly guy knew the protocol but the crystal ball turned to dazzling white dust resembling snow itself. What is this?!

Wang Jing glared at the guy and sighed. She then walked away. This is why she hated leaving the village. She met someone so arrogant in a town, if ever she goes to the city, surely she'd meet someone more arrogant. Better go home and sleep.

Xiurong looked at Wang Jing as she walked away. Can't she have more spine and fight back?! Her family was insulted! Truly, she shouldn't acquaint herself with a coward. Xiurong glanced at the guy only to find him frozen still. What's wrong with him? Xiurong didn't bother with it and looked ahead instead.

While Wang Jing went home, the young guy was titled a genius, Xiurong gloriously passed and the muscular was frozen for a day. No matter how they try to unfreeze him, he won't move. Even the scholarly guy was helpless. The next day, his anguish cries were heard by the townspeople. He hadn't took up the test yet!
