Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen: Records

Meanwhile, in Seeira, the kids returned to Vivi's house with Ali after school. "Thank god it's Friday!" Carl says as he sprawls out onto the couch. "It has been a weird week".

"Do you think our parents are okay?" Dana asks. "They should be home by now, shouldn't they?".

"They've been through worse" Carl says. "Haven't they, Silas?".

"How am I supposed to answer that?" Silas asks. "It's not like I was there to watch the war happen".

"Well... you do have all of those records from The Naris Catastrophe at your house" Carl says.

Silas pauses, then stands up suddenly. "You're right!" He says. "Maybe there's something about the war in there!".

"You'd have to find Omnia's records though" Dana says. "And with the amount of files and giant stacks of paper I've seen.... ehhhh, I'm sure you can handle it".

"Right!" Silas says as he runs to the front door, "I'll be right back!". Silas slams the door behind him as he runs towards his home.

Dana and Carl look at each other. "Think he'll actually find it?" Carl asks.

"Geez, I sure hope so" Dana says. "If he dies by being buried under paper, that'd be really embarrassing".

"Well... he does have magic" Carl says, then pauses. "... I wonder if we can learn magic soon too".

"Absolutely not" Ali says. "I've only just started learning after I graduated high school. You three are too young for that!".

"But Silas already knows!" Dana complains.

"Well, Silas is a genius... and sort of a freak" Ali says. "He scares me sometimes, and I have no idea how he learned magic so quickly. The Mahina bloodline is scary...".

"You're scared... of Silas?" Carl asks in disbelief. "He's like a little teddy bear... he's the shortest of us three and always so shy and awkward".

"Well, he does have that thing with his eyes" Ali says.

"Oh yeah, like his mother" Tanya says as she enters the living room.

"It's called heterochromia iridium" Dana says. "Geez, try picking up a book sometime...".

"Which reminds me" Carl says, "Dana is really smart... how come she can't start learning magic".

"Well... being smart and being a genius are kinda different things" Tanya says.

"Being smart is like a skill" Dana says. "You work to be smart... being a genius is like a natural talent; it's something you're born with".

"You're a biiiig neeeerrrd" Carl says. "Please speak English".

"That was English, you dope!" Dana says as she bops Carl over the head.

"I'm back!" Silas shouts as he slams open the door with his shoulder, carrying several files in his arms.

"That was faster than expected" Dana says.

"Dad left it on his nightstand" Silas says. "He was already working on writing this done in the form of a novel or something... he seems to be really interested in keeping track of these records".

"Which ones did you find!?" Carl asks. "That doesn't look like a single file!".

"Actually, it is" Silas says as he tries to balance several large stacks of paper and files in his arms. "They were both labeled Omnia/America".

"America?" Carl asks. "Isn't that country like... desolate?".

"It's where The Naris Catastrophe started" Dana says. "Didn't you pay attention in school?".

"Maybe you're just a nerd!" Carl says.

"Shut up a minute, I'm going to try to skim through the important parts" Silas says as he sets the files on the floor. Silas opens up the first files and starts to read through them out loud. "The first entries are from a man named John Recken. Apparently he was a General of some American military".

Silas begins to read, out loud, some of the events written down by General Recken. "Reports of a mysterious creature roaming the world, following after the phenomenon of the sky turning black mysteriously for several weeks, have only increased" General Recken writes. "We've issued search party after search party to look for survivors in the devastated areas of the country, but the Coast Guard is running thin. Nobody has been returning, and communications are down. There's no telling what state the rest of the world is in. May god have mercy on our souls". An entry from a few days later reads "Sightings of this beast increase, and even though we can't get a confirmed sighting of this creature, we can't avoid the fact that something is attacking us actively. The Air Force has been shut down, as their forces have run dry. The Coast Guard pulled out and retreated to Hawaii to create a safety shelter, as it was reported that natural disaster after natural disaster have been trigger over and over. If it's this bad only here in the states, the world itself may very well be on its last leg by now". Several entries marking down natural disasters, such as massive hurricanes, multiple volcanoes going off at once, tornados and earthquakes all happening constantly continued for almost a year. Eventually, the General writes down "We've established communication via sending people to act as messengers with neighboring countries. Those countries established communication with their neighboring countries, and we have concluded that the world itself is on the brink of destruction. God has showed us no mercy, as half of the world is on literal fire from constant volcanic eruptions and wildfires. Another quarter of the world can sleep due to constant shaking and rumbling, while the remaining quarter can only watch as their natural climate changes drastically. Deserts are becoming wet, the rain forest is drying up, and places in between have been getting all four seasons within hours. In addition, we have finally received confirmed visual and photos of this beast that's supposedly behind this mass destruction. We've never seen anything like this. It's massive size but undefined form, as well as its malicious intent is beyond that of a nightmare. None of our weapons work on the beast. Guns have no effect, as bullets simply pass through it. Nuclear weapons have failed us, and we've only added to the destruction. We thought it'd be worth the sacrifice, but we've only helped the beast by killing millions of our own. We've established a large safety shelter, monitored by my own forces in south Oklahoma. The best we can do is await our inevitable death". A few months later, General Recken writes "The beast hasn't been reported for a long time in America, but there have been reports of a super volcano erupting multiple times under the Atlantic Ocean. The sky has been growing black again from Ash, and we've sent forces to investigate".

Next in the file, were entries from a man named Mason Phelloma. The father of Lily Mahina. "A second strange entity has appeared through what looked like a portal. The entity claims his name is Siran, and that the beast's name is Naris. Siran claims he's on our side, but we can't trust him. After all, if he has anything to do with this Naris, then he can't be good". A few days later, he wrote "We've witnessed Siran perform what he claim was magic. Either way, this seems like a new and efficient method to at least let us fight against the beast before we all die. I don't trust him all that much still, but at least it's something".

The next entry, from a couple weeks later came from General Recken. "We've prepared underground shelters too keep civilians safe from radiation. We plan on launching our entire arsenal of nuclear weapons all around the world, in sync with Russia. We've already received the green light, now we just wait for our final search parties to return with as many people as humanly possible". A few days later, "a search party returned with a strange entity" he says. "The entity claims it is on our side, and this entity also claims that it can teach humans to wield magic. As strange as this occurrence sounds, a soldier of mine, Mason Phelloma, claims that what he says is true. With our resources running low we have no choice but to see where this road takes us". Later, General Recken wrote "Naris attacked Hawaii and set off another chain of natural disasters, completely destroying the military shelter there. We've sent a party to retrieve all those still living and bring them here. If we're going to fight back against this beast, we're going to need all of the man power we can get". Several months later, "the beast has been confirm to have been sighted on the northeastern side of Oklahoma. We've sent forces, as well as that entity to try to strike at the beast while we can". The next day, "The attack failed. We've sent parties to retrieve the survivors, but so far, none have been found. Not even the entity". After a couple days "The entity, Siran has come back alone. My trust in this creature is thinning, as we've lost too many forces to fight back now. The last squad we had was sent to fight, and none of them returned". After a few more months, "We have learned of a method from the entity. Reactive Endoindustria. The entity has personally taken on the responsibility, as he should, to teach this method to me and the last high ranking officers. We've formed a pact that we call The Mages Guild. With this, we shall give one final push against the beast. May god have mercy on our souls". Much later, "We have taken down Naris with the method we learned. However, we have learned that it was indeed Siran who released Naris upon the world. He and Naris have obvious ties to each other, as the two seemed oddly familiar with each other. We've taken action to hunt down the entity to the ends of the Earth, however, he went into hiding and hasn't showed up. His name hasn't been learned by most of the civilians, nor has he shown up since the defeat of Naris. I have my doubts about this, but I'll give Siran the saving grace of not focusing on the search myself. Instead, a friend of this Siran, Angela Mahina left a child behind before dying. I've offered to take in this child, and focus on that rather than to release more information than I should about Siran. I doubt his real name is even Siran, so we haven't taken the effort to release that name to the public either". Over a decade later, "From the volcanic eruptions in the Atlantic Ocean, a new body of land has formed. Since The Naris Catastrophe, America has been mostly uninhabitable. We've decided to evacuate all civilians who are willing to this new body of land and set up a new country. Siran still hasn't appeared since that day. Perhaps he's gone back to where he came from".

"So that's what Naris looked like?" Carl asks as he stares at a photo from the files.

"Damn" Silas says, "dad has known the Mahina bloodline since before the Mahina Clan was formed...".

"Your dad is so old" Carl says.

"Did your dad ever write anything down from his perspective?" Dana asks. "What's his story like?".

"I don't think he ever wrote anything down" Silas says.

"What do you think those guys are doing right now?" Tanya asks.

"Probably getting into trouble" Demetri says. "They have knack for that".

"You're right" Tanya says. "I hope they're okay".

"So, how'd they rebuild the world if it was so messed up back then?" Dana asks. "It must've taken them so long to do it".

"It did take a very long time" Tanya says. "Over a century".

"Yes, but how?" Carl asks.

"I dunno" Silas says. "I'll have to grab more of these files to find out".

Meanwhile, in Egypt. "So, we're going to wait around for this Ares guy to show up again?" Rose asks.

"How are you so sure he'll show up again?" Vivi asks.

"Well, he seemed like he came by to check up on the last stream, in Japan" Siran says. "Maybe he'll do it again?".

"That's a nice plan and all" Laurence says, "but he didn't show up at the one in the Philippines".

"Ah... that's true" Siran says.

"So, now what?" Finn asks.

"Hmm... maybe try to go back to Israel?" Zia suggests.

"That'll certainly get his attention" Alex says, "but it'll also get all of Israel to hate us too".

"Then how about we go into Israel without your crew?" Laurence suggests. "You say he's in there? We'll go get him".

"Alright" Siran says. "We'll head back to Cairo for now and await any updates on the situation. While we're at it, how are we supposed to stop the streams?".

"That's the difficult part" Todd says. "They seem to have been summoned by a seal... the only way to undo it is to make the caster reverse the seal".

"Then, we'll have to bring Ares and Dolos back to make them undo it?" Siran asks.

"That sounds about right" Manny says. "Although, that's not going to be easy".

"I'm sure it'll be easy enough" Aaron says. "There's four of us, but two of them. Unless their boss shows himself, we outnumber them two to one. We'll apprehend them and force something out of them".

"But Ares is a stubborn man" Laurence says. "That's what makes this difficult. We'll see what we can do".

"We're counting on you" Siran says as he holds out his hand for a handshake.

"Right back at ya" Laurence says as he shakes his hand. "We may be needing to count on your help further. I hope you'll be ready to help when the time comes".

"We're The Six Guns!" Rose says. "We're always ready!".

"Well, as much as we plan" Holly says, "don't we tend to improvise a lot of our plans?".

"Yeah, I was wondering the same thing" Blake says. "Are we ever actually ready for anything?".

"We're ready at a moment's notice" Ying says. "That's what makes us unique... I guess".

"Pfft- hahahaha! That's quite something!" Alex says.

"Humans have the ability to be both adaptive and precise" Laurence says. "That's what makes you so admirable. Stay on your toes, we don't know what might happen from here on out".
