So, it's now the day of the Tournament. We woke up early even though we're going to be the third team to fight so that we could see how strong our competitors would be... and the first fight was something interesting. It was a complete defeat for the group called 'Ultimate Four'. Their name was extremely ironic, considering they all were defeated by one spell. An earth magic spell stabbed through their armour and clothes, which was grounds for defeat as they all could no longer move within the designated time.
After that, the next fight wasn't anything special. After us, there's going to be five more battles, for a total of eight. Meaning, sixteen teams are fighting in the lower bracket of the tournament. Hm, considering how many people live in The Capital, that's a surprisingly low amount. Then again, this is just the lower category, so there are most likely much more people in the higher ones.
So, with all that information out of the way, we're currently walking into the arena we'll be fighting in. We reach our destination in no time, of course.
"Alright! Welcome to our third match of today! And after those first two thrilling matches, I'm sure you're all incredibly excited to see how this one will pan out! Well, frankly, so am I!" The announcer who stayed all the way up in the sky spoke in a jovial tone, he was obviously well suited for the job.
"Well, in one corner, we have team 'Ohre'! Quite an interesting name, and an even more intriguing trio! Now, on the other side of the arena, we have 'The Rising Sun', another trio that has recently become more popular! With that all said, battle... begin!"
Well, he gets straight to the point... wait, isn't 'Ohre' just an anagram for hero? What kind of person-- no, what kind of king thinks that's a good name for a team? especially when he's trying to keep the us being summoned thing hidden.
Anyway, the fight has already started, so I probably shouldn't get distracted.
First of all, let's use appraisal.
Hm, so, the one that's most definitely the 'leader' is level 32 and has the fire and smoke attributes. She seems to use a spear, which could be bad for me if I fail to close the distance between us.
The other one on the left of her is level 29 and has the air and poison attributes, two of which could combine together quite well since he has a spell that spreads poison in the air. He, as well, wields only a dagger in its sheath.
The final of the three was level 30 and had the water and crystal magic, the latter I've never fought against or even seen. Seeing how we both share one of the same attributes, I'd rather not fight against him. Although, I would like to see how light magic would interact with crystal...
Anyway, these three, considering their skills and stuff, probably work quite well together. So, the first order of business is to separate them from each other.
"Togeshi, you deal with the one on the left, Akane, you'll fight the one on the right. Make sure to keep them at least ten meters away from each other" Yeah, I don't have some super special plan or anything, but after giving them their orders, I did give them both a short run-down on what their opponent's skills would be.
Oh, they're already rushing at us. Well, they're both returning the favour, going to attack. Akane casts air magic at her target, the crystal magic-user, slicing the air in front of her, forcing her opponent to dodge away from his team.
Great, now I won't have to deal with them while I send out my first attack.
And, now, Togeshi using his impressive speed, went to attack the poison user with his gauntlets. He, of course, manages to dodge backwards in time, but Togeshi just continued his assault, moving him farther and farther away from the leader.
Seeing all this happen in but a moment, the leader laughed, "Your friends are impressive, I must say. So, you'll be my opponent, then?"
Hm, she seems to be the talkative type, I could use that to my advantage...
"Yes, I am," I responded to her remark, unsheathing my sword. I haven't had the chance to actually use this in battle, yet, so today's a good enough day as any to test it out.
"Great!" She grinned, "In my culture, it's customary to ask of your opponent's name before the battle begins, I'm Tanya Kani!"
Well, I already knew what her name was, but I might as well comply as to not be rude.
"Yuu," And without further delay, I activate my enhancement skills, and charge at her. Against some using a spear, they'll be much less efficient once you've closed the distance.
But, she of course knows this, jumping back and beginning to cast a spell, "Fire Magic: Fire Ball!"
From her hand not currently carrying the spear, a surprisingly large sphere of fire erupts out, maybe almost a full meter tall and wide. It came at me at an alarming speed, but it was still dodgeable. I simply moved out of the way of it.
However, when I did this, my opponent reacted with a wider grin. Right after, a searing pain came from my back, the same fireball from earlier hitting me.
"An interesting thing, isn't it? The names of spells usually signify what the spell does in whole, but by leaving out a piece of information as simple as 'the spell tracks you', you leave yourself completely off guard! Though, by making it track, it sure does use a lot more mana!
Damn it, I have to admit, I wasn't expecting that. Perhaps I underestimated her because my level was much higher than hers...
Alright, I won't make that mistake again.
