Chapter 1 - Status Quo

Hello for anyone who might find this.

My name is Ethan Foster, but you probably know me by now. Anyways, this is will be a sort of journal entry. I will be writing everything that happened to me ever since the Great Collapse. Why? You ask me… Well, I need to, else I will lose my mind to madness. If I can't put my thoughts organized in this manner, my emotions will take hold of my actions, and in the wild, this is the same as courting death.

Too many people depend on me, my willpower must prevail for their sake…

That's what I would say, but it would be a lie. For I am no hero, just a lost soul.

So, how do I start telling this fucked up situation? Because believe me, it is quite difficult to tell you how shit went through the fan so fast.

Oh well, never mind. I guess it doesn't matter, let's start from the status quo as any other epic story begins.

Even though this one isn't made of heroes.

Me and my sister were getting prepared for that day's meeting. We would meet up with my friends, so Chloe was quieter than her usual self. Even though she was an annoying brat, there was still shyness when meeting new people. And as any self-entitled older brother did, I mocked her to my heart's content. She would pout and turn away at my jokes, increasing her cuteness.

But there was no time for jokes, because that night would be the night. That girl, Rachel, would be mine girl. That day would be the day I took the initiative. So, before we got out, I took one last glimpse at my appearance. Tall and skinny, with a sickly pale skin tone and void dark like hair. I admit it, I am not good looking. But who cares? I didn't lose hope, appearance wasn't all. Be yourself a funny and gentle guy and you could conquer the world. Although the appearance did help a lot…

---

Even though I said all those things, my friends increased the difficulty tenfold with their jokes. Even Chole started getting along with them! How could she betray her own brother?! I cursed my bad luck. I couldn't handle those imps, no human could. Seriously, Noah, my silly friend joked that I dyed my hair for it to be so dark, just like an old man.

Haha, sometimes my patience ran low on him, nevertheless the boy had a good heart. Same went for Daniel, the computer freak. He was dangerous, and I am sure as heck that he could hack into anywhere. However, where is darkness, there will always be light.

Rachel was ridiculously beautiful, with a radiant blond hair that bloomed with a flower fragrance, blue eyes that reflected the skies and a divine curvy body. Fuck, that's the minus of what made her incredible. She was quite well versed with art skills... No, she was more than that, a genius I say. Writing, drawing, painting, singing, dancing and even playing instruments. I didn't know how she did it, but to me it looked like she came as an angel from the heavens.

So, no progress had been made.

As time passed, I grew more and more nervous. It was then or never. Clearing the doubts out of my mind, I suppressed my emotions and turned around to talk with her.

But for some twisted reason, Lady Fate turned her back to me when I most needed. Almost as if mocking my existence.

BOOM*

BOOM*

Countless explosions sounded in the mall, disrupting the peace on the cinema. I turned around to see what was happening, and there was no staff coming to take us out of the room. So, we were there by ourselves. We needed to get out of there, and fast!

"Let's GET OU-"

My words were cut short as I turned around to warn my friends. They weren't there, disappearing like they weren't around to begin with. No one was there other than me and my sister. I remember clearly her expression at that moment… she was trembling, her face as pale as my sick one.

I clenched her hands with mine, bringing warm to her scared heart. Because amidst the confusion I had of what was happening, I knew one thing, and that was…

"Everything is going to be okay."

I said to Chloe with conviction burning in my eyes.
