Chapter 2 - Moonlight

*** The Great Collapse, 20/08/2018

We ran... and ran. When our legs started numbing, we increased more our velocity. I was supposed to know what to do at the time, but I didn't. So I just held firmly on Chloe's hand, as if my grasp on her would slip.

The ground was trembling, the windows shattered. The shadows projected by the moonlight took bizarre forms, coming straight from hell. My expression was stoic however, opposing my turbulous mind. I can't show my fear to Chloe.

All around us there were hounds that blinked into existence out of nowhere. Their flesh was exposed, spreading a putrid smell that I would throw up if time wasn't running low.

Soon enough, these foul creatures would come to conscious and our fate ended. Me and Chloe were on the second floor, the stairs occupied by lots of 'Hell Hounds'. I swallowed a dry gust of air, because I knew, our only way out was jumping. BUT HOW?!

What should I do?

What to do?

Just what??

What?

My mind went miles per hour as my legs trembled from the exertion. I looked down, but could only see a fountain. 10 seconds ... 8 seconds ... 6 .. 5

Then it clicked, we jump in the foutain and maybe live or die here to these beasts.

"Chloe, we need to jump." I said while looking in her big brown eyes.

"WHat? We can't, we can't, no no no. We are in the second floor! There must be another way, please don't, don't, don't!" She debated herself, trying to release her hand from mine. There was no time to this, I can't let my sister die here, not here.

"Sorry." I pushed her. By then, I was acting upon my instincts.

ROAR!

I turned around to look at my enemy. Its eyes surveyed me like no more than easy food. The mouth drooling and pawls ready for the pounce. My legs stopped trembling and I prepared to jump.

Reading my movements, the Hell Hound angrily barked, its food was getting away. It wouldn't let.

Both of us fell. There was no fear for the fall as any animal would have, instead there was pure hatred. Instead of falling to the fountain, our trajectory was pointed towards the hard ground. Mid-air my body was assaulted by it's front pawls. Shallow cuts, I thought. By a rush of pure adrenaline and primal instinct I went for his torso, using it as a shield for the impact.

CRACK

Ribs breaked, water splashed, pain assaulted every fiber of my being and my councious threatened to slip. But I couldn't, I knew it. We were still surrounded by otherwordly monsters. If I fell uncouncious here, both me and Chloe would die.

Notifications ran through my eyes. What is this? I could ask, but no time... with a grunt, I slowly got up from the ground, hearing crack sounds going through my arms. Pain overflowed my being. I have never felt so much in all my life. My vision got blurry, the sounds around muffled. All I could see and hear before falling once more back to the ground was my sister running towards me while yelling my name.
