Chapter 4 - Griffin Academy

"My name is Esten Malk. I'm a fourth year and I'm also the student body president here at Griffin Academy. Welcome back second, third years and fourth years and also, welcome first years to Griffin Academy. You will learn and experience many different things here at Griffin Academy. I hope you have a enjoy yourselves here. Thank you for your time and here is Headmaster of Griffin Academy, Mr. Clovis."

Huh? That person was the headmaster? All the first years looked confused and began whispering amongst themselves. I was also confused, or rather surprised. I was expecting an older person. Someone with a cane and a long gray beard. The headmaster's appearance was very unusual. He looked very slim and he was also not tall, but rather on the shorter side. The headmaster had a large hat on, one that a witch would wear, and the large hat covered his face. He then tilted the hat back to show his face. As soon as his hat tilted, a strong and cold wave of magic filled the auditorium. I've never felt such a cold magical force before. Students near me began shivering and breaking into cold sweat. The teachers then began shaking their heads.

"Here he goes again, intimidating the new students. "

"Why is he so childish? If he is bothered by the whispers and side discussions just tell the students to be quiet. He doesn't need to go this far."

"You're right Mr. Kay, but isn't it entertaining watching the students' faces when they experience Clovis's power?"

"Oh, I forgot that you're also a strange person Miss Lotte."

"Hahaha! You're right about that Mr. Kay."

Mr. Clovis then got rid of his magic that filled the auditorium. The temperature rose back up and the students began to calm themselves.

I wondered why the kids were so worked up and terrified. Mr. Clovis just demonstrated his power, however, there was no killing intent behind it. The upperclassmen looked calm and in fact were smiling, but my fellow classmates were terrified. Maybe the students couldn't withstand the pressure? Maybe they've never been exposed to such raw and powerful magic. Well whatever it was, I was amazed that someone that looks small and weak could be so powerful.

When it became calm and quiet again, I finally saw the headmaster's face. The hat covered most of his hair, but relatively long strands of dark black hair poked their way out of the hat and rested on his face. His hair reached up to his nose and he then parted his hair; half went to his left side and half went to the right side. He then tucked his hair behind his ears and now you were able to see his face. He looked no older than 20 years old. His face was a white, almost pale, color. His eyebrows and eyelashes dark black. His eyes were also a clear and bright light blue color. The spotlight that was on him made his eyes appear whiter rather than blue. His appearance was unique, but also very familiar.

He then spoke. "Thank you Esten and welcome students." His voice was very soft and easy to listen to. It had a soothing effect that would calm the heart, quite the opposite from his magic. "I hope my childish actions didn't harm any of you."

"Ah. Sounds like he heard me."

"Hahahaha Mr. Kay it sounds like he did."

"Shhh, Ms. Lotte he'll hear you too and then we'll both be in some trouble."

"Hahaha. Sorry, sorry. I just couldn't help laughing at the face you made. Ohh Mr. Kay, for being serious you're quite funny."

Mr. Clovis the cleared his throat and looked towards two teachers that appeared to be fidgeting and smiling.

They whispered to Mr. Clovis in unison saying "Sorry headmaster." They then respectfully bowed.

"Continuing on. I'm sure many of you new students were caught off guard by my appearance. I'm sure you were wondering why this weak looking guy was the headmaster of the highly respected Griffin Academy or if this was some sort of joke or prank on the incoming class. I'm sure you've all heard this before, but as they say, actions speak louder than words. No matter if I introduced myself as headmaster of THE Griffin Academy, some of you students wouldn't give me your undivided attention. So I had to prove that I'm worthy of being headmaster of one of the worlds most prestigious school of magic. Just like how I proved I'm worthy of being headmaster, I want you students, not just the new class of students, but each and every single one of you to prove that you're worthy of being a student here. You have already passed one of the most difficult entrance exams in the world, but there is more to being a student here at Griffin Academy than being smart and naturally talented. If that was all it took to be one of the top schools in the world, then we wouldn't maintain our position for very long. There are many talented and smart students out there, but what makes Griffin Academy students different from all these other students is how hard they work. In this world, strength and power is all that matters and your hard work will never betray you. Working hard will lead to improvement and improvement will lead to results and results will lead to you getting more and more power. You may fail many many times, but as long as you keep at it, you'll garner improvement and results. Thank you students. You are dismissed."

The students then clapped and one by one exited the auditorium.

"Oh man. headmaster Clovis's magic isn't the only thing that gives me the chills, but his yearly cheesy speeches too. Isn't that right Mr. Kay?"

"You're right about that. It's the same thing every year, but I'm still not numb to it. How can he not get embarrassed by what he is saying?"

"I do get embarrassed when I'm done. Thankfully I'm able to hide my face under my hat in order to try and forget the embarrassment. Every time I see the students I'm reminded of all my speeches and then I start feeling nauseous. Oh oh oh."

"Mr. Clovis, you have my respect. Being able to say such cheesy lines is something I'd never be able to do and walk around the school proudly."

"Yeah Mr. Kay is correct and besides you just showed me a wonderful face headmaster."

"Ugh I just got another headache from you Lotte."

"Clovis you're so mean and I also told you not to call me Lotte, but rather my first name."

"Sorry A—, ugh I can't. Calling you by your first name feels unusual. I can't."

"You used to call me by my name all the time when we were younger and now you stopped."

"Sorry Lotte. I'll try my best. Anyway I've got to go now. Mr. Kay make sure Ms. Lotte stays on campus to prepare for class tomorrow. I don't want her wondering off and causing trouble."

"Oh Clovis you're always thinking negative things about me. What happened to the Clovis that would always stand up for me."

"I'm sure Mr. Clovis just learned your true nature Ms. Lotte and okay Mr. Clovis I'll keep an eye on her."

A loud voice echoed through out the academy and said, "Students, class will begin tomorrow morning at eight AM. Make sure to head to your dorms by nine PM and no later otherwise you'll be in big trouble."

"Huh so there is no class today. How nice." My stomach then growled. "Oh man I'm oh so very hungry, but I need to head to the library to meet up with Elly. Afterwards we can go grab something to eat."

"Let me see my map. Hmmm so the library is this way."
