The library is huge! I wonder how the inside looks.
Wow!! It is even more amazing inside! How many floors is it? Let me see one, two, three, four, five.... it goes higher and higher. Whoa, I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it.
Okay I need to sit down somewhere where Elly can see me. Hmm. There seems to be a free seat right here. I wonder if those group of students are holding that seat for a friend of theirs.
"Excuse me, is this seat taken?"
"Whoa you're pretty tall aren't you?"
"He's a first year like us."
"I thought he was an upperclassmen. Just like the headmaster, looks can be deceiving."
"Sorry Kiv, but not everyone is as short as you."
"Umm easy there Kacey. I'm only sixteen. I'm still a growing boy and besides you're only an inch (2.5 cm) taller than me. Watch, next year I'll pass you. Just wait and see."
"We'll see about that."
I chuckled when I heard their conversation. It reminded me when I was younger. Elly was taller than me all throughout our childhood and she would always make fun of me for being shorter than her. It isn't that I was short, but rather Elly was freakishly tall at a young age. However, when she turned fourteen she stopped growing. She's been about 6'2" (189 cm) since she was fourteen. I then passed her and I'm now around 6'4" (196 centimeters). Don't worry Kiv, hang in there.
"Wow your hair is very pretty! Jet black? Is it natural or did you dye it?"
"Thank you, no one has ever complimented my hair. I thought most people had black hair, but when I came to the capital I saw that that wasn't the case. So, um, may I sit here or is it taken? I won't sit here for long. I'm just waiting for someone."
"Oh yeah go ahead. My name is Lexy. This is Rikt and those two are Kacey and Kiv. What is your name?"
"Nice to meet you guys. My name is Dexter, but most people call me Dex."
"Hello Dex. You don't look like you're from the capital, where are you from?"
"Yeah, this is my first time here at the capital. I'm from the outskirts of the kingdom. A small town called A--"
"Dex! I'm here!"
"Hey Elly!"
"Sorry did I make you wait long? It took me a while to get pass the group of students."
"No I didn't wait long. I just got here not to long ago. Well, later guys and thanks for letting me sit here. Also, see you guys around. I hope we're able to become friends! Bye bye!"
"Bye Dex."
"Later Dexter."
"Whoa, did you guys see that girl? She was super pretty."
"Yeah and she was a second year too. Oh, and sorry Kiv it looks like that girl was a whole head in a half taller than you. I don't think you're tall enough to even get noticed by her."
"Be quiet Kacey. You're just jealous that you aren't as pretty as her."
"What are your impressions of the school Dex?"
"Well it is pretty amazing. The school is so huge. It's even bigger than our little town. It's pretty amazing. However, Elly why were the first years terrified of Mr. Clovis's power?"
"Last year I was also just as confused as you were. However, I later found out that since most students aren't from the outskirts of the kingdom like us, they aren't exposed to so much magic like how we are. The majority of students are from cities, like the capital, and even cities from different kingdoms. They don't know what it is like to go hunt because there is no need to when you live in the city. You can buy everything that you need without even lifting a finger. So for many students, the headmaster's magic is the first time they experience such powerful magic aura."
"Hmm, you're right. If that was the first time I've ever experienced such a thing, I would've been like the other kids too. I didn't really think to much about the other kids' situations or family background. I thought most people were exposed to magic from an early age like us."
"Yeah it's pretty amazing how we're all Griffin students yet, that is the only thing that we have similar with one another."
We began walking around the school for a while. I wasn't sure where we were going, but I'm sure it was somewhere where there is food because me and Elly really think a like.
Kids began looking at us and whispering to one another.
"Hey, isn't that Elly Hawk? I wonder who that tall guy next to her is."
"Is that her boyfriend?"
"I doubt it. Do you know how many people she rejected last year? Rumor has it that she even rejected the president and besides, look, that kid is a first year. Why would someone like Elly Hawk, the genius of the second years, date someone who has just entered the academy. It doesn't make sense."
"You're right, but would she always smile like that before? Every time I would see her last year she always had a serious face. It looked like if you looked her in the eyes she would kill you."
"Hmm, now that I think about it, you're right. However, I heard from people that had her in some classes that she would always ask questions. She also lacked a bit of common sense. It sounded like she was a pure of heart maiden."
"I don't know, but one thing for certain is that she is one mysterious person."
"Yeah you're right about that."
"Elly sounds like you are pretty famous."
"Why do you look so happy? I'm not sure how so many people know me. I only a handful of friends and that is also counting you."
"Well obviously you're super popular. I mean look at you. You're not only pretty, but also tall. You stand out so much."
Elly's face turned a little red and she then said, "You're one to speak. You stand out more than I do. Besides, you're also not that ugly. Just a little bit, but it's tolerable."
"Wow. Here I am giving you compliments, but look at you bringing me down."
"Hahaha, compliment me some more. Well anyways, why can't I find the cafeteria?"
"Oh no, don't tell me you don't even know where your own school's cafeteria is. Wait, the reason why I got to the library earlier than you, despite upperclassmen being closer to the exit, is you got lost didn't you?"
"...."
"Its okay let's just look at the map.'
"Hmm, let's see where we're at. Oh man looks like you took us the completely wrong direction Elly. Well, at least the food will taste good no matter what because we're hungry."
"Wow! Elly, the cafeteria is so big! I wonder how the inside looks!"
"Huh? Why are there so little people for such a big cafeteria?"
"It's because most of the students that attend this academy are rich. They also usually live in the capital rather than in the school dorms. The school has a curfew and also, no girls are allowed in the boys' dorm or vice-versa."
"Ah, so that's why."
"Yeah and that is also why the there are only two dorm buildings. One for boys and another for girls."
"I haven't gone to my dorm yet so I wouldn't know. Anyway, I'm super hungry Elly lets go line up for our food."
"Okay, lets go."
"Why is the line taking so long?"
"I'm not sure, let me take a look. Wait here Elly."
I went towards the front of the line and saw a student arguing with one of the cafeteria workers. A tray of food was laying on the floor. The arguing got even more intense and the student raised his hand and was about to hit the cafeteria worker. As soon as he raised his hand, I rushed over and held his hand to prevent him from hitting the cafeteria worker. The student was at least twice the size of the cafeteria worker. The cafeteria worker was a short old man. He was even shorter than Kiv. One smack and he would've gone flying across the room.
"Who is that?"
"Where did he come from?"
"Look, he's a first year."
"Did you see him coming?"
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Relax. Why are you bullying such a frail old man. Aren't you ashamed to be raising your hand against your elders?"
"This doesn't have anything to do with you. Leave before I start to seriously get mad at you."
"Okay, okay. I'll let go of your hand. Now, why don't you and the old man just apologize to one another. I'm sure you have your reasons for being mad, but you shouldn't try to harm others just because you're angry. Okay old man apologize first and then he'll apologize."
"I'm sorry for bumping into you and spilling your food all over the ground."
"Now, I know you're a bit cranky because you're hungry, but the old man apologized. Why don't you also apologize for trying to resort to violence."
"Be quiet you freshman."
"Okay, well, sorry old man it doesn't look like he is apologizing. Mr. Student, I get that you're angry and won't apologize, but can you not hold up the line? Everyone is also hungry and we're all just waiting our turn. Anyway."
I then turned and began heading back towards my spot in line. As soon as I took a face steps back to my spot, the student then lunged towards me and tried to attack me from behind. Elly saw that I was about to be attacked and rushed towards me and blocked the student's hand.
"Wait isn't that Elly?"
"Does she know that tall first year?"
"She also appeared out of no where."
"Elly, who do you think you are to stop me. Get out of my way."
Elly looked at the student with such ferocity in her eyes. Her sight looked deadly. The two were looking at each other staring daggers into one another. A magical aura began oozing from the both of them. A black aura came out of Elly while a bright red one was coming out of the mysterious student.
I went in between the two and put both of their hands down.
"Okay, okay. Easy there both of you. This is a cafeteria where we eat. We don't fight where we eat."
"Hmph. Hey, you loser, you're lucky that Dex stopped me other wise I would've beat you right here. If I see you trying to hurt him again you better brace yourself."
"Loser? Me? Who do you think you are? Just because you're a little popular doesn't mean you can call others-- no rather me, a loser. Don't you know who I am? I'm--"
"Nope. Don't care. Let's go Dex before his loserness rubs off on us."
"Huh?!? Hey, you wait up. You, uh, Dex was it? Stop hiding behind Elly and stand up for yourself!"
"Dex don't listen to him. He seems like the type of person that is all bark and no bite. Let's go back in line."
"Are you still going to ignore me and hide behind Elly?"
I wanted to know where he got such confidence from so I turned around and walked back to him.
"Okay. I'm here."
"You know this school has mock battles right? If you aren't too scared, I challenge you. One on One."
"Wait, this school allows fighting?!? I had no idea! You see, I never went through the handbook that I received once I passed the exam. Hehe..."
"... Well, anyway, I challenge you. I need to put an arrogant first year in their place and make sure you can't just hide behind Elly. Matches are held in the gymnasium so lets go."
My stomach then grumbled. "Okay, but can I eat first...."
"Ahem... Yes we can go and meet in the gym. Meet me there in an hour."
"Okay."
"Oh and try not to chicken out."
The student then left.
"Elly is he not going to eat? Was he not irritated because he was hungry?"
"I don't know. Losers think differently than regular people."
I chuckled and said, "You really don't like him do you or are you just angry that he tried to hurt me?"
Elly turned a bit red and said, "Whatever you want to think."
We finally got our food. The food smelled amazing. The food was some sort of mystery meat with a pleasant appearance. It also came with a bowl of rice, some mashed potatoes, some pasta, and some fruit. I also got two cups of water for drink. Elly got the same thing as me. About fifty minutes passed and we finished our food. We then headed towards the gymnasium.
