Relenah huffed and bent over her knees slightly. After trying to catch her breath, she straightened her back and looked up at the building in front of her.
The eye-catching gold colored building stood proudly in front of her. Relenah looked around and found that it was relatively quiet, especially when compared to the main building. Letting out a sigh, she looked at her pocket watch which was given to her by Esther before she left the dormitories.
She saw that she only had ten minutes before her first class started. Patting down her robe, she finally found her booklet. She flipped through the booklet until she found her class schedule again. Her first class was supervised by a teacher named Rupert.
After reading where the class was being held at, she closed her booklet and placed it back in her robe.
After giving herself a small pep talk, she walked inside the building. The interior looked similar to the exterior. The walls were painted a luxurious gold color and the floors were a pristine white-colored marble.
Relenah looked in front of her and was glad to see directions listed. After finding where she needed to go which was called 'study hall', she turned left and tried to find the right door. Fortunately, each door had a sign above it which clarified what room it was.
After walking a minute, Relenah finally reached the 'study hall'. Taking a deep breath, she slowly pushed open the door and quietly peeked inside. What she saw somewhat shocked her. It was empty!
Did she get the place wrong?
Relenah scratched the back of her head and pushed the door wider when she walked inside. After looking around, it seems she really was alone. Was the first class only for first years like herself? Does that mean she'll be the only one here when the teacher comes?
She didn't feel so good at the thought of being alone with a teacher she doesn't know. Heck, the teacher might not even show up.
Letting out a sigh, Relenah decides to just sit down near the front row desk and wait for the designated time. She already burned a hole through her booklet staring at the class location, which did not change. She was at the right place.
As she was lost in thought a voice suddenly broke her out of her reverie, "I'm telling you, it's not a lie! The S level water elemental is a first year."
Relenah stiffened when she heard that. Dang it, does she have to go through another duel again so soon? It's only her first day too. God, why do you do this to me?
"The door's open. Is someone already inside?" A different voice spoke. Silence followed shortly after but it didn't last long because the door was quickly slammed against the wall.
"Ahh you're right, someone's in here. Wait, blue robes? Shit, it's the first-year water elemental I was telling you about!" Relenah lifted her head and saw a youth pointing his finger at her. He had a smug look on his face when he turned to face the person behind him.
"I can see that. Now shut up, you're scaring the poor girl," The person that stood behind the youth said calmly.
"You're no fun Eric," The youth pouted.
"And you're annoying. Neither of us get what we want," Eric replied with a deadpanned expression on his face.
The youth dramatically clutched his chest and gave Eric a wounded expression, "I thought we were friends! We've known each other since childbirth. How could you say that to me?"
Eric let out a sigh and slowly massaged his temple, "We first met when we enrolled into the academy. What do you mean by since childbirth? Stop spouting nonsense William."
If it was possible, William's pout got bigger and his eyes widen at Eric, "Well it feels like we've known each other since childbirth. Don't ruin my fantasy of our beautiful friendship!"
Eric glared at William, "You cling to me like moths to a flame, I wouldn't call that 'friendship'."
Relenah blinked her eyes at the pair as their conversation continued going back and forth. Before she could react, another voice interrupted William and Eric, "Stop blocking the door. It's way too damn early for you two to act like an old married couple."
Turning her head towards the new voice, she saw a rugged looking young adult. He had a big build and was taller than the other two guys. William pouted at the newcomer, "Preston, you're just jealous of our beautiful friendship."
"Tch, who wants to be in any kind of relationship with this sissy?" Eric clicked his tongue and hooked his thumb at William when he said sissy.
Preston shook his head at the two of them and continued walking inside the room. When he spotted Relenah sitting stiffly in her seat, he sent her a curious glance but then took his seat near the door.
"Sit down, stop blocking the door," Preston scolded William and Eric when he saw the two about to go on another argument.
Eric ignored William and quickly found a seat in the back of the room. William huffed at Eric and decided to take a seat near Relenah which surprised her.
"Hello, nice to meet you! I'm William. Are you that first year that everyone's been talking about?" William leaned closer with each word, causing Relenah to lean back due to the close proximity.
Before she could reply she suddenly saw William fly in the other direction. She blinked her eyes at the sudden scene.
"Have you changed your target from Eric to a defenseless girl now, William?" Another new voice hissed.
Relenah turned her head and was slightly blown away when she saw the elegant looking youth near the door. He had a whip in his hands which Relenah assumed was what sent William flying.
"Damn it, Malcolm. Can you stop whipping me whenever you see me? I'm not into that kinky shit."
As soon as William finished his sentence, Malcolm's gaze turned colder and he whipped William again, this time causing William to fly to the back of the room.
"I sometimes wonder if you really are of noble birth or not," Malcolm said in a cold voice.
Relenah kept switching her attention back and forth between Malcolm and William. She was surprised when she saw William stand back up again, with barely any scratches on his body.
"All of you people can't take a damn joke," William huffed indignantly.
"If you're able to tell a joke, then I'll applaud you," Eric suddenly said, causing William to go into another heated argument with him.
Relenah suddenly felt a cold gaze on her. When she turned around, she found it was Malcolm. He was staring at her intensely.
"So, this is that first year student. At least she hasn't flown completely into panic," Malcolm thought to himself.
Turning his gaze away, he slowly walks to the other side of the room, furthest away from everyone and sat down.
As soon as Relenah turned her attention back to the front of the room, she was surprised to see a young-looking boy standing near the door. The boy was staring at her with hesitation in his eyes.
When Relenah saw him, she suddenly had the urge to awe at him. Biting down on her lips so that it didn't accidentally come out, she gave the boy a small smile.
The boy saw her smile and gave her a small smile in return. Afterwards, he walked into the room and took a seat near Preston.
Relenah did a mental count in her mind and counted six students including herself, meaning all the S class members were here.
The sound of the room's door closing caught her attention and when she turned her head towards the front desk, she saw a smiling teacher that had a calming atmosphere around him.
"Once everyone is settled down, we'll start the class introduction. I'll point at each of you, and what you have to do is just stand up and talk a little bit about yourself. Of course, telling us your names, year and element is mandatory. Other than that, feel free to add any other thing about yourself."
The teacher smiled around the room one more time, "My name is Rupert, although each of you have your own elemental teacher, I am the teacher in charge of all of you. So, if you have any trouble in the coming year, feel free to find me."
Teacher Rupert clapped his hands and then pointed his finger at Malcolm, "Let's start with you. Introduce yourself."
Malcolm had an annoyed look on his face but stood up nonetheless, "I'm Malcolm, fourth year, light element. I don't like noisy people," As soon as he finished speaking, he sat back down without lifting his head.
Teacher Rupert nodded his head at Malcolm like his introduction was the norm, "Okay, next is… you," He pointed at Preston.
"I'm Preston, fifth year, earth element. I come from a family of knights, but because I had an aptitude for magic, my family gave me all the resources I need to study."
Teacher Rupert nodded his head and continued pointing fingers at the rest of the students.
"I'm Eric, fourth year, wind element. There's not much to know about me, but I guess I can say I like reading books and researching new spells."
"Hello everyone! My name is William, I'm a fire element! I love making new friends and I hope all of us become best friends forever!" Almost everyone in the room looked at William with a deadpanned look on their faces. The only people that didn't react was teacher Rupert and the boy sitting quietly near Preston.
Teacher Rupert smiled at William and then gestured to the boy near Preston, "I'm Skylar, second year, dark element," When Relenah heard his element, she was shocked at first and wanted to slap her own forehead. How did she miss his black colored robes?!
Teacher Rupert nodded his head at Skylar before turning his attention to Relenah, the last person in the room that hasn't introduced themselves yet. Relenah gulped when she felt all eyes on her. When she saw teacher Rupert give her an encouraging smile, she quickly stood up.
"Hello, my name's Relenah, first year, water element," Her voice got softer and softer, but she knew everyone in the room heard her. The room was enveloped in complete silence following her introduction.
She cleared her throat, "I lived far away from the city, in the deep forest with my parents and older brother," As soon as she finished speaking, she sat back down and tried to make her existence as small as possible.
The quiet atmosphere was broken by teacher Rupert when he clapped his hands, "Okay, now that we got the introduction out of the way. I will start explaining the curriculum for this year."
Relenah let out a relieved sigh when she felt the intense atmosphere disappear.
"S class is not like all the other classes where students are separated based on year. But since most of you are of different years, and of different elements, then you will be assigned a personal teacher that will teach you for the next one year. Based on your performance, if you can hold your class ranking, then that teacher will also teach you next year."
Teacher Rupert suddenly looked at them with a serious look on his face, "However, please remember that in a formal duel, if you bet your class ranking and lose, then you will be kicked out of S class. Of course, this only implies to those of the same element," He shrugged his shoulders and showed a big smile again.
"That being said, other than the fact that you can use the facilities in this entire building, you will do magic training with each other. It would be unfair if you were to fight those from the same element. However, for teaching purposes, when other classes are having their magic training, you will be allowed to watch and act as a teacher's assistant."
Relenah gave her full attention to the teacher and tried her best to store all the information given in her memories, "I'm pretty sure you all have already seen your dormitories. The private library in there is filled with books pertaining to your own element. Of course, if you're curious about other elements, then you are free to visit the library in the main building."
Teacher Rupert touched his chin with a thinking expression on his face, "Am I forgetting anything…? Hmm… Oh yeah, every month, the school hosts a class ranking battle in the training area. Of course, since you're all in class S, you don't really need to join. But attendance is still mandatory since students would want to duel you for your class ranking. You also can't refuse any challenges. Don't worry though, all of you are limited to a single fight during the ranking battle."
Relenah could feel another sweat drop at the back of her head. She can just imagine a line of people wanting to duel her since she's a first year. She sighed at the thought. Hopefully people would spread the news of how she beat Frederick. Maybe that will help buffer some of her future obstacles.
"Okay, I've already said all that needs to be said. If any of you have any questions, feel free to ask me. You can reach me my double tapping the crystal that was given to you at your dormitories. Remember, if you lose it, ask for it from your dormitory head. That crystal is not just a key to your room, it's a direct communication device to the students in S class, as well as the teachers in charge of S class. After you double tap the crystal, just say the name of the person you want to talk to. That's all for today. Tomorrow you will meet with your elemental teacher. Class dismissed."
Teacher Rupert gave all of them a big smile and quickly walked out of the room.
Relenah stared at the door in silence. When she saw the other students leaving one after another, she let out a sigh and also got up from her seat. At least she can go back and start reading on those books in her library.
With a plan in mind, she left the S class building and quickly made her way back towards her dormitory. She also had to write a letter to her parents, as well as a letter to her brother, to let them know what she's been through so far.
She can just imagine Oberon's face looking at her incredulously at the idea of her being in S class.
