Chapter 100 - Learning Great Secrets While Waiting

As Dragonkin, either full-blooded or half-blooded, both Luca and Arcturus understood the meaning of Dragon King better than Arthur, who had only known of the title as that of the clan's ruler. However, all three of them had never known that such a legendary being had ever been killed by a mortal. From their understanding, only three kinds of beings were capable of killing a dragon in a one-on-one battle: deities, Sages, and other dragons. In ages past, the only way mortals had ever killed dragons was with a combination of sheer numbers and several powerful individuals. None had ever dared to fight a dragon alone, not to mention an almighty Dragon King.

The young Dragonborn wet his lips, as he'd had his mouth open in astonishment long enough for it to get dry, before speaking, "A mortal being really killed a Dragon King in single combat, Halad?" After a second of thought, he added, "Not that I'm questioning you. It's just such an impossible concept to imagine..."

Though it could not make the sound of a snort, the three living beings felt the action of it as Halad responded gruffly, [Of course they did. Do you think Andorias could perceive it wrongly?] Just that last line was enough for them to accept it. How could the planet itself fail to understand what occurred within its power. [That man is considered the strongest mortal since the Ancient Elves sealed themselves away. Based on the concept of levels, he had exceeded Lv. 100, a number that has only ever been seen with dragons and Sages. He also did it without forgoing his identity as a mortal. In fact, Andorias once tried to grant him Sagehood, but he refused.]

"Wait, he refused Sagehood? Why? Becoming a Sage is one of the greatest accomplishments one can possibly achieve, yet he said no?" Arthur blurted out his startled thoughts without being able to stop himself. It wouldn't be wrong to say that achieving Sagehood was considered the ultimate goal of mortals. After all, they are among the three beings that are ageless alongside the deities and the dragons. They can also use the power of the entire world as they wished, were respected beyond any sovereign or hero, and were all responsible for feats of unmatched greatness.

[He did indeed. The only thing he accepted was the agelessness aspect of Sagehood, but he refused to become a full Sage. His ultimate goal was to become stronger than any Sage or Deity. He wanted to become Andor's strongest native and therefore its guardian. Last I checked, he had already reached a level of power where he could fight a Greater Deity even with its faith power behind it. Both Sages and dragons are immensely powerful, but the great wealth of faith power that deities possessed was what gave them the edge over the other two. In theory, Dragon Kings would be ranked third out of them as they lack either faith power or the backing of the world's power. As for deities and Sages, it's difficult to give them a ranking. The divine power of deities is one of the keystones to the planet's stability while their faith power is something that is developed through mortals. Sages, in comparison, have the power of the world behind them, rivalling both the divine power and the faith power together as the world's power is theoretically inexhaustible. Though they have never fought, it is hypothesized that, in single combat, a Sage and a deity would fight to a draw.]

Halad paused for a moment after understanding that he was moving a bit off of the topic he'd started from. [Anyway, the point of the matter is, the dragonslayer can be considered to have transcended mortality to the point where he can fight a Greater Deity as an equal. This was unexpected, as, according to the database, nothing of the High Priestess's prophecy mentioned such a being, and it is a very detailed prophecy. The only shame was that he'd been born after the Heroic Era, the time where his prowess would have been most valuable.] Halad's hologram figure crossed its arms, tapping its fingers on its elbow in contemplation, [The most unusual thing about that man is that his future cannot be perceived. Not even Aion, the deity of Time, could see it. He said so himself when Andorias spoke to him. Aion was utterly bewildered, as it was the first time he'd ever had an issue with viewing futures. It didn't matter what timeline he viewed, the dragonslayer's future could never be seen.]

A moment of deep silence went through the room as they all took in this new knowledge. On one hand, having such a powerful individual willing to protect Andor was undoubtedly a great boon, but not being able to learn anything about him, even as a deity, made him very ominous. After all, it's very hard to trust someone you know nothing about. As they thought on this, Arcturus suddenly perked up, [Now that I think about it, I remember big brother's memory of Echadir's recording mentioning a being called the Watcher. Do you think the dragonslayer might be related to them?]

Halad's hologram form shimmered as its head looked at the dragonling in surprise, [I... I'd never thought of that... Yes, now that you mention it, a lot of the missing puzzle pieces about him suddenly line up. Aion's powers cannot influence the dragonslayer or the Watcher. His growth was certainly not something a mortal could achieve without assistance from a higher being, and we know it wasn't one of the three major groups. If he was influenced by the Watcher, it makes sense for his goal to be the native guardian of Andor, as the Watcher is highly restricted in their actions and therefore cannot interfere as easily as a native could.]

Arthur's eyes flickered slightly as he spoke up, "Hold on a second. I know that Echadir mentioned that we cannot learn everything and that the High Priestess would have to be the one to tell us, but there's one thing I keep finding odd. You mentioned that the Watcher can't interfere like a native can. Does that mean he's not a native of Andor?"
