Chapter 1 - Prolgue: It's Just a Dream

Kai was in a large throne room. The throne sat on a raised platform, red fabrics hanging from the back and off of the arms. The fabric was normally blue, but today was a special exception. You see, the fabrics were red due to having caught fire. The fire burned down the fabrics, causing the golden throne to glow and melt from the heat. Not only the throne, but everything else was also on fire. Huge tapestries hung above everyone in tatters, most still burning. Pieces of wood fell from ornaments like balls of fire, raining down. People ran around the room, yelling and screaming. Many had their clothes catch on fire and some simply fell to the floor and were consumed by the raging flames. There was fire everywhere. Even the walls were burning.

For a moment Kai simply stood there. All he could do was think, 'Why are the walls burning? Stone isn't supposed to burn, is it?' A huge block of stone fell from the ceiling. Suddenly Kai could move. It didn't matter if the stone wasn't supposed to burn, it was burning anyway.

He dashed through an open door only to find the room it led to filled with fire. He ran back out and searched the room, looking for other exits. He found one a the other side of the room. The exit led to a hallway. The fire hadn't seemed to have reached it yet and he raced down the hall. The corridor opened into a large room. In this room, the fire was raging. The blazing hot embers burned Kai's skin as the flame continued to consume item after item. All of the exits were on the other side of the room with the fire. The only exit he could reach was the one he came from, and it was filling fast with fire.

Kai frantically looked for another way out. He found none. He desperately dashed towards the flames. He weaved his way through the fire and came to the other exit, only to find it collapsed and burning. Then, just before he was going to collapse from the smoke, he saw an opening. There, in an area where the fire had seemed to calm down, was a gap in the wall. He raced for the hole. Kai grasped at the hole only to find it too hot to touch. He cried out in despair. Kai moved sluggishly, looking for something to step onto to reach the gap. He found a chunk of stone and kicked to the hole. He stepped onto the stone and leaped out into the outside.

Kai found himself in the courtyard. The outside was even worse than the inside of the palace. The grasses and trees, once peaceful, now blazed in the night. The dirt paths covered in debris. Kai coughed into his shirt which he had raised to keep the smoke out. He ran to the edge of the courtyard, gradually slowing to a walk as he grew weaker and weaker. Kai heard a noise. Followed by a grunt. He heard it whisper something unintelligible. Suddenly, Kai froze, halting his steps. He knew that voice.

A sense of relief came over him. He ran towards the direction the voice came from. Kai pushed foliage out of the way as he ran, racing towards the person like they were the savior he had been searching for this entire time. Like they were a person who could wash all of his worries away. He had complete faith that this person could make everything alright once more. Kai reached the area that the voice came from and pushed the last bit of greenery out of the way.

All of a sudden, the distinct stench of blood assaulted his nose. It was so overwhelming that it completely pushed out the smell of the smoke, clogging his nose instead with its sulfurous stink. The scent was so strong that Kai felt like throwing up. He looked in front of him to see what had caused this, and a feeling of horror flooded his senses. Kai couldn't believe what he was seeing. It- It- ...
