Chapter 72 - The Promise From The Beginning

"High expectations from family, daughter of a successful company... I'm sick of them all..." Amanogawa Chisato, whose life has been planned for her from the start, dislikes her arrangements but forced to follow them regardless of how she feel.

"On that day, I met someone who brought me hope." Chisato reminisced. It was spring, when she is about to head to Hokutosei High School for her first day, a boy called out to her.

"E-Excuse me! You dropped your handkerchief!" The boy called.

"I-I see... Thank you." Chisato responded.

"That uniform, you're heading to Hokutosei High right?" The boy asked.

"Small talk... What does he gain from this..." Chisato thought to herself.

"Yes, your uniform is the same school as mine..." Chisato responded politely.

"Oh! My name is Shimamura Shinosuke, nice to meet you!" Shinosuke introduced himself.

"Amanogawa Chisato, nice to meet you." Chisato said.

"Actually I'm so nervous today..." Shinosuke said.

"Nervousness is a sign of fragility." Chisato thought.

"Why so?" Chisato asked.

"None of my friends got in here... I'm kinda alone on my first day haha..." Shinosuke laughs nervously.

"So he's technically the same as me..." Chisato thought.

"Me too." Chisato said.

"Huh? You're nervous?" Shinosuke asked.

"I meant, our situation is quite similar." Chisato smiled.

"Oh I see, you don't have friends getting in Hokutosei High too?" Shinosuke asked.

"To be precise, I do not have any friends." Chisato said.

"Huh... I see, I'll be your first friend then!" Shinosuke said.

"Here it comes, looking for an opening, how trivial... But this time... He seems rather... Sincere..." Chisato thought.

"You doesn't seem like others, I'll accept your offer, Mr. friend." Chisato said.

"Haha! I can't wait to see which class we're in!" Shinosuke said.

"... Thinking about this... Perhaps it'll be different this time..." Chisato thought.

"Hey..." Chisato stopped.

"Hm? What's the matter?" Shinosuke turned back.

"If we ended up in the same classroom, shall we go out together?" Chisato asked.

"Huh?! This is too sudden!" Shinosuke got very flustered.

"Teehee... I'm joking. We're going to be late if we don't run." Chisato started running.

The spring breeze Chisato passed through brought a new meaning to her, she had hoped to change herself. Embracing this newfound feelings of hers, every step forward is filled with hope.

"I wonder what would the future looks like? Will I ever be with Shimamura-kun?" Chisato smiled in a coy.

Upon arriving at school, she was told to meet a teacher in the staffroom. On her way through the corridors, a girl bumped into her.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Chisato apologized. The girl looked at her, shocked.

"Are you alright? Did you got hurt somewhere?" Chisato is concerned.

"... Were you talking to me?" The girl asked.

"Of course I am, you didn't seem hurt, I'm in a hurry, I'll be on my way. See you around!" Chisato moved on.

"... Could this be...?" The girl thought.

As Chisato took a turn and climbed the stairs, she slipped.

"Oh no..." The girl who followed behind tried to catch her, but she as well, lost her balance and they both fell.

"Ahhh!" Chisato screamed. Oddly, no one heard that. Upon looking at her surroundings, she noticed something strange: A girl who looks exactly the same as her sits in front of her, pressing her own head with her palm. She looked down, it's not her body, what exactly happened?

"Are you alright?" The Chisato in front of her asked.

"No... What just happened?" Chisato asked.

"It is just as what I thought... It worked..." The Chisato in front of her mumbled.

"What exactly worked?" Chisato asked.

"You talked to me, and you could touch me. That is all I needed to get a 'contact'." The Chisato in front of her said.

"Contact? What on earth are you talking about?" Chisato asked.

"It literally means that I have replaced you." The Chisato said.

"R-replaced?!" Chisato is shocked.

"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to do this, I just wanted to observe you..." The Chisato in front of her apologized.

"Is there a way to reverse it?" Chisato asked.

"No... The person who told me this warned me that there is no return... I'm sorry, I'll do everything in your place, so please tell me where you are heading next." The Chisato in front of her apologized.

"It's... Alright..." Chisato sighed. She looked around and picked up the bag the stranger girl carried and looked inside.

"What is your name?" Chisato asked.

"Ah, I'm sorry! My name is Ma..." Chisato stopped her from finishing her words.

"This is nothing like an exemplary student, Chisato-san." Chisato said.

"Ah, I'm sorry... Here, this is your name." The Chisato in front of her understood the situation.

"Yukimura Mayoi... So this is my name from now on." Mayoi accepted her name.

"From now on, when you look like this, you must refer yourself as Amanogawa Chisato." Mayoi said.

"Now, I take that no one can notice me is it?" Mayoi asked.

"Yes... It is weird to talk to the wall since a while ago, so I took out your phone..." Chisato explained.

"I see... So you're capable of thinking." Mayoi said.

"... At least that is what I have prepared myself for..." Chisato said.

"We're running out of time, please head to the staffroom immediately." Mayoi said.

"Ah yes! I forgot about it!" Chisato frantically runs up the stairs and slipped again.

"Kyaaa!" She fell, landing on Mayoi again.

"Tsk... That hurts. Are you alright? Yukimura-san?" Chisato asked.

"...?!" Mayoi is shocked. It appears that nothing has changed, their bodies remain switched, but something sure is weird.

"I have to watch my step this time, please follow me and tell me what to do next." Chisato asked.

"Yes..." Mayoi answered. As she followed, she thought of the consequences of the sudden switching of identities, she no longer has to be the exemplary student to answer the expectations from her family, which she felt relieved. However, the promise from the beginning with Shinosuke, is hardly achievable by herself from now on... Which she felt regretful of.
