Chereads / A Twilight Promise / Chapter 73 - Rooftop

Chapter 73 - Rooftop

Chisato ended up playing the role of the exemplary student in Mayoi's place. It seems like she longed for the opportunity, and she cherished. Mayoi, on the other hand remains as a invisible person, where no one is able to notice her presence, except by Chisato herself. It was a mystery what happened back there, but the two became fast friends on the way.

"Before I came to this school, I made a promise with a boy... At least, please don't distance yourself too much from him..." Mayoi said.

"I see, what is his name?" Chisato asked.

"Shimamura Shinosuke..." Mayoi said.

"Alright, I got it." Chisato promised.

"Eh, why is he not talking to me at all?" Chisato wondered.

"Give him some time!" Mayoi is embarrassed.

"Eh... Someone's shy huh..." Chisato eats her lunch alone.

"Come on, he's over there!" Mayoi rushes Chisato.

"Alright, alright, got it..." Chisato runs towards Shinosuke.

"You're avoiding me so much aren't you?" Chisato caught up to Shinosuke after school.

"Huh? Nope, I didn't!" Shinosuke got flustered as Chisato puts her face close to his.

"If you are not feeling confident being friends with me, you're the same as the others you know?" Chisato said.

"N-no, I'm just..." Shinosuke felt disappointed at himself.

"I'll work hard from now on, please remain friends with me!" Shinosuke said.

"... That was awkward haha... Fine, I'll be friends with you no matter what happens." Chisato chuckled.

"T-that's a promise..." Shinosuke promised. The two looked away from each other, with their face blushing.

"All right..." Mayoi felt at ease as Chisato made a move to be close with Shinosuke, yet her chest felt tight...

"You know, I wanted to become a part of the student council as well, that'll be an important part of my high school life!" Chisato said happily.

"Eh...?" Mayoi is dumbfounded.

"I see, I'll help you when the time comes." Shinosuke said.

"EHHHHH?!" Mayoi became more surprised as Shinosuke accepted her suggestion.

"Thanks, Shinosuke-kun." Chisato smiled.

"W-Wait! What is the meaning of this?!" Mayoi asked.

"While we're at it, why not go for it? I'm an exemplary student after all!" Chisato brags.

"I-I see, I'll have to help you out if both of you are going to be in it..." Mayoi said.

"Why don't you just admit that you want to be with Shinosuke-kun all the time?" Chisato teases.

"Please don't tease me!" Mayoi is embarrassed.

Back to the present, where Mayoi is crying...

"I knew I wasn't supposed to feel like this... But I can't turn off these feelings. It grew heavier day by day... I don't know what to do...!" Mayoi cried.

"I understand your feelings... You should have told me sooner... It'll be fine... After I finish this, I'll return this body to you. I promise." Chisato held Mayoi tightly as Mayoi continued to cry.

...

"Girls sure do take it long... What exactly happened in there? A quarrel? The two never fought before... What could have happened between them?" Shinosuke pondered.

Bzzz... Bzzzz... Shinosuke's phone vibrated.

"I'm sorry, Shimamura-kun. The meeting is cancelled. Before you go home, please wait for me at the rooftop." Chisato texted.

"The rooftop is a no-go... But whatever..." Shinosuke thought as he walks to the stairs.

"Oh senpai, what are you doing here?" Kanade passed by him.

"Oh, we were planning for the field trip, but something happened." Shinosuke answered.

"I see, good luck with the planning then!" Kanade said as she leaves.

"Good luck... Just like old times huh..." Shinosuke reminisced.

...

He walked up to the rooftop, a locked door stands before him, he turned the knob to find out that it's locked.

"The rooftop... A good place to hide during lunch breaks, as well as the place where numerous confessions took place... I wonder if that would happen to me anytime soon? Very unlikely... Since the girl I had my sights on were only Chisato..." Shinosuke pondered.

"Oh, the door's locked..." Chisato said as she walked up the stairs leading to the rooftop.

"Couldn't we just talked about it in the student council room? Why are we going to talk about things up here?" Shinosuke asked.

"The atmosphere, don't you think so?" Chisato said as she unlocked the door.

Shinosuke gulped before he walk through the door. The sun seems to be setting, it's evening after all. The sun was too bright compared to the unlit corner he was standing at a while ago. He squinted his eyes as he walked to the middle of the rooftop.

"So what is it..."

"You had something to say to me right?" Chisato interrupted Shinosuke's

"Eh?" Shinosuke is confused.

"About how you felt towards me all this time. Lay your feelings bare, and face me directly." Chisato said.

"No, wait... This is weird. What are you talking about?" Shinosuke became more confused, or it just appeared so, so that he wouldn't make a fool of himself in front of the girl he adores the most.

"No need to play dumb. We're here, the best place for only one thing, and that is what I wanted to talk about right now." Chisato drops a hint.

"I still don't understand, why now? Back then you told me that we would go out together if we ended up in the same class. Despite how hard I tried to reach out, it doesn't seem like you are the Chisato I met that time. I thought I have to work hard to be recognised, yet I'm still not there yet. And now out of sudden, Yukimura-san is crying, and then you asked me to confess to you. Seriously, what's your problem?!" Shinosuke said. It surprised Chisato as she never expected that he has been waiting for a long time.

"I see... I'm sorry for my selfishness. I... Never lived a normal high school life before... I was focusing on fulfilling my wishes to live a fulfilling high school life... And I hurt you in the process..." Chisato apologied.

"Amanogawa-san... You're strong, intelligent, and also diligent. Always moving towards your goals with every action. I admire you as a fellow student, as well as a fellow colleague in the student council. You never show me a sign of affection more than a friend, perhaps it's out of professionalism, or perhaps you bear no such feelings towards me. I've followed you for this long, without expecting you to look in my way any longer. So if there is anything for me to tell you right here and now, is that I adore you as a fellow classmate. Nothing more than a mere classmate." Shinosuke said.
