Chereads / A Twilight Promise / Chapter 60 - Itsuki's troubles

Chapter 60 - Itsuki's troubles

It has been a while since Himeko is arguing with her father.

"No, I won't even consider Itsuki-kun at all!" Himeko is adamant.

"I said, you shall only marry Itsuki-kun and no one else!" Yamaguchi said.

"Come on... I just wanna leave..." Itsuki helplessly thought.

"Say something, Itsuki-kun! Aren't you opposed to this idea as well?!" Himeko finally shifts her attention to Itsuki.

"Uh... Well, whatever I say, he just wanted one outcome today, which is I accept his offer. So my hands are tied here." Itsuki said.

"You... How could you do this to me... Huh?" Himeko said begrudgingly, but she noticed a signal given by Itsuki.

"Play along for now." Itsuki signalled using his fingers, which happens to be what he taught Himeko back then when they met each other as children.

"I-I understand..." Himeko finally settled down.

"Now we're talking." Yamaguchi calmly said. Having to listen to the terms that they know won't happen in any near future sure is endless.

"Finally out..." Itsuki said as he leaves the hotel building, with Himeko following.

"So... You asked me to play along... Do you have a plan?" Himeko asked.

"Not really, but I can figure out something." Itsuki scratches his head.

"Haru-kun is very special to me..." Himeko went on and explained how good Haru is to her, like her father, she really likes to talk a lot about the things he loves.

"Here we go again..." Itsuki looked at the night sky, promising himself to make a beautiful escape from the chains Yamaguchi set on him.

Meanwhile a few hours ago, Keita and Ayumi was having lunch at M's.

"Whoa... Keita is sure amazing... Able to clear the new levels so quickly." Ayumi is amazed at Keita's skills in the mobile game he's been playing, Puzzle Hazard.

"It's pure muscle memory at this point. Each tap has to be precise, or you'll miss the combos." Keita explained. Ayumi looked at him with admiration and affection, which Keita is too busy explaining and too focussed to notice.

"Children these days don't really have a thing for modesty ehehe?" Mikoto smiles as she work in the kitchen.

"And then here... Huh?" Keita finally looked at Ayumi who has been looking at him intently, their eyes met.

"Uh... What are we doing now?" Keita asked.

"Last time... At my room..." Ayumi struggled to find the words.

"What I did to you... Are you avoiding me?" Ayumi asked.

"I see... Nope. I kind of understand your situation." Keita said.

"Really?!" Ayumi is excited.

"Uh... Is that something to be so excited about?" Keita asked.

"It's a secret!" Ayumi said.

"Come now... You sure keep a lot of secrets." Keita said.

"I'll tell you everything when the time comes... Hopefully." Ayumi said.

"Okay, I'll wait." Keita said. The two of them enjoyed a quiet afternoon together until the sun sets.

"Oh, it's time. Could you follow me?" Ayumi said.

"Sure... You shouldn't get too far from your house you know that?" Keita said.

"Of course I knew that. I just want to show you something." Ayumi said.

"Let's go." Keita stands up and walks towards the entrance.

"You...?!" Keita noticed a group of students from the same school. They are Amanogawa Chisato, Shimamura Shinosuke and Yukimura Mayoi. Chisato winked and waved her hand. Ayumi, who didn't notice, dragged Keita by his sleeves and left the cafe.

"It must be fun to be young." Chisato sipped her coffee.

"But you're just two years older than them." Shinosuke said.

"Well, it could be interesting to see how things turn out in the future." Chisato looked out of the window.

Ayumi brought Keita to a field, it's open enough to see the sky, since there is no buildings in the way. Keita is wondering why Ayumi wants him to be here.

"Ah, we made it in time. Let's take a look at the twilight." Ayumi said.

"O-okay..." Keita gave a little response due to him noticing something, Ayumi is not acting like her usual self?

"Look, look! It's happening!" Ayumi is excited. The sun slowly sets, changing the colour of the sky. The transition between the day and night is short, and breathtaking, no one had really paid any attention to it. Keita looked at Ayumi, he noticed her eyes were wet.

"Let's head home for now." Ayumi started walking back.

"Why the twilight?" Keita asked.

"I'm just feeling like it." Ayumi replied.

"Were you crying?" Keita asked.

"Ah! The light may be too strong on my eyes..." Ayumi said.

"Please don't look directly at the sun next time." Keita responded. With some prior knowledge of Yuuki is always excited to watch the twilight every day, Keita is now interested to know the reason behind the twilights. It's just a mundane natural phenomenon that happens every day, what is so special about it? It's not like it's seen from a beach or with someone important...

Someone important... The thought starts to swirl around his mind. Just why Ayumi wants to watch the twilight together with Keita? With the unsolved doubts, They bid farewells after Keita escorted Ayumi back to M's.

"Thanks for spending time with me today..." Ayumi said.

"We're supposed to hang out after all. We'll get Itsuki to explain what happened today. It's beyond too late to be just late." Keita said.

"He might have some worries we don't know..." Ayumi said.

"It could be..." Keita said.

"That's all I think. Have a safe trip on your way home..." Ayumi said. Keita nodded and started walking home. Ayumi watched Keita walking into the distance, without looking back. Part of her is feeling disappointed at herself for expecting him to look around.

"Sigh... When will I be able to tell him...?" Ayumi muttered.

"Well, he's now gone. Let's go home." Chisato said.

"Hyaaa!" Ayumi is startled.

"Oh, sorry! Nice shop here by the way." Chisato casually said.

"President, we should explain ourselves for bothering her..." Shinosuke said.

"Are you two prehaps... Dating...?" Ayumi said.

"Huh?! There is no way! There is one more of us here!" Shinosuke said.

"Huh? I didn't see anyone..." Ayumi looked around.

"I'm just standing here." Mayoi informed.

"Whoa! When did you got here?!" Ayumi is surprised.

"There is something special about her... But we apologize for bothering you. We should head back now." Shinosuke said.

"Alright, let's go home!" Chisato led the way to the station.

"I apologize for what happened just now." Mayoi said as she follows Chisato.

"Uh... If you're troubled, you should find us, the student council. We'll be helping you for sure!" Shinosuke said as he runs after Chisato and Mayoi.

"The student council... Could they really help me?" Ayumi thought for a while, shrugs and then goes home.
