As soon as the door to her room was closed Yona slumped down on the floor and stared blankly at the room's interior. She sighed as her initial nonchalance vanished without trace. Well, it turned out that she was a little bothered.
Yona had to admit that she had been disillusioned for a moment there. Jonathan was the first man who had treated her tenderly aside from the men in her family. It was a different type of tenderness, one that is reserved for a woman not for someone close of kin. And she was taken in by this gentleness. Only to be disappointed to find out that all of it were mere lies.
Her feelings may not have reached the level of like but it was damn close to it. Yona breathed in deeply and shook her head of distracting thoughts. Today's farce drained her energy out. Even the comfort that her work brings didn't make her feel better.
Just as she has pacified herself, Yona's phone rang out a specific caller ringtone. She blankly looked at the phone, waiting for it to ring seven times before answering.
"Big brother."
Sinha Worth was bound to call her. Yona knew that quite well. She did scheme into locking him up in the luxury four cornered office of the Worth Group surrounded by paperworks. It was bound to make his unfettered soul feel despair.
"Dearest sister, what have you done this time? Why did father make me the acting CEO all of the sudden? Your pranks have upgraded into deadly ones now."
Yona sighed exasperatedly. Her older brother has a deep aversion to inheriting their company. Her father, Aiden, beat him up after he dropped out of business school and entered a film university without their parents' knowledge. Why wouldn't he? The situation was only revealed after Sinha's graduation.
Their mother, Xing Yue often said that Sinha's genius was used in a different, more unconventional way. Yona agreed to that whole-heartedly. An eight to five work takes more energy from her big brother than filming a movie for months on end.
Sinha did prove that he was damn good at acting. Over the years, he won countless awards and was a renowned movie emperor. However, all these didn't mean she would never let him taste the experience of the work he dumped on her.
"Thank you for the compliment. I hope you like this gift." She replied to him without any tone fluctuations.
"What's with you? Normally, you'd bicker with me about this. Why are you so compliant now?" Sinha answered with an unsure voice. Not that Yona was surprised. Their sibling relationship was wacky most of the time. There was never a time when she talked to him so blankly like this.
"Take up office for a while, will you? I need a break." Yona ignored his question and merely reiterated what she said to her father.
Sinha's cello-like voice deepened with seriousness, "What happened Yona?"
For a moment, Yona wanted to smile. Her brother seldom used such a tone. The last time he did was when he stood firmly in his decision not to inherit the family's business empire and insisted that she was better suited for it. Despite being a carefree spirit, Sinha was through and through the Worth's eldest young master.
"I walked in on Jonathan Wilding doing his secretary a while ago. I renounced the engagement right then. I've already informed mum and dad. But I'll be going away for a while to take a breather." Yona recounted once again in the same blank and mechanical voice. The silence on the end of the other line was heavy and repressing.
Yona was quite sure her brother was fuming. He did, after all, have a slight sister complex. Sigh.
"I'm alright brother. Just… Just let me rest for a moment, okay?" She tried to reassure him. Yona wouldn't want him to go berserk and beat up Jonathan until he's left with but a breath. It would just aggravate their friendly relations with the Wildings.
"Alright. Did you beat him up?" Sinha asked after a long while of silence and breathing exercises. Yona finally let out a little chuckle.
"I punched him in the face. I was too disgusted to do more." She replied in between small laughs. Sinha harrumphed and derided her.
"Tch. As long as you shed some of his blood, I'm satisfied. I knew I had a bad feeling about that prick." He added contemptuously.
"You have a bad feeling about all men around me, big brother." She refuted him, her fingers tapping the floor rhythmically.
"Tch, my gut feeling isn't wrong though. Where do you plan on going, by the way?"
"The land of the rising sun." She answered with a small smile.
"Understood. You have fun there. Don't forget my compensation." Sinha then said in a resigned tone. Yona grunted an agreement before hanging up the phone.
She sent a message to Feng Yi asking her to handle all the necessary procedures. Yona stood up and proceeded to flop herself unto the soft confines of her bed.
Hopefully, this vacation would do her spirit some good.
