When she returned home and put on her bracelet again, she decided that she must redeem her misdeeds of the day and she settled on preparing a grand supper for Daniel's return. She called Marcus, because she was a good girl and never left the house alone, and they went to the grocery store together.
She spent the rest of the day cooking and when everything was ready she set the table, put the candles and wine glasses on it and settled for waiting. To her surprise she realized that it was the first time that she and Daniel would have a romantic supper together at home, and she felt a pang of guilt when she remembered that Jim managed to arrange it with her much earlier. Of course there was no romance from Mary's side but the set table with candles and wine glasses on it brought the involuntary associations.
When the entrance door opened and Daniel went in, Mary did not go to meet him and instead turned on soft classical music and lighted the candles. Daniel followed the sound and was surprised and touched to see Mary's arrangement as well as her beautiful dress and make up. He came up to kiss her and Mary felt passion and longing in his kiss and in his every touch. She was glad that this idea came to her mind and decided to prepare similar surprises in the future as well.
They parted and sat down at last, he opened the bottle and poured some wine into the glasses, they drank to their mutual happiness and to many pleasant evenings just like this one which were yet to come. The candle light was dancing on the their plates which reflected it onto Mary's pin-curled hair, sometimes it even seemed that this light got lost in her fair curls and was constantly struggling to find its way out.
When their supper was over Daniel carried her to their bedroom. He struggled a little with her long dress which had tricky claspers at her back and finally managed to get her free from it. The lights were off and there was nothing and no one who could separate them now. No Jim, no Gabriella, no one, they were alone and only the moonlight was shamelessly peeping into their room. He was the only witness of their happiness.
Mary wished that the morning would never come but the merciless sun started its rise on the sky. She fell asleep when its first rays touched her skin. When she woke up, Daniel was already gone, leaving her with beautiful memories of yesterday evening.
She checked the clock and knew for sure that she was awfully late for her first working day in the new position which she agreed to take the other day.
It was time to wake up again.
