Chapter 4 - Problems with having older brothers

"Rye, it's time to wake up!" Someone chanted at some blasphemous hour of the morning. I reached for a pillow to cover my ears, unfortunately, it has been stolen, finding out that I lacked the comfy cushion, I pulled my blankets up to my head, only to find out it had been taken, too.

Gingerly, I looked up with blurred eyes, spotting my other big brother, Ruval, carrying the blanket and the pillow under his arms.

"Mnn... cold" I mumble as I curled up, ignoring the sharp look of Ruval.

I heard his steps fading away, ah, perhaps he—

"Let us go little one, the others are waiting."

I hissed at the sensation of the sun warming my skin. Since I was a Devil now the sun became way more bothersome, not at the same level of a vampire, fortunately, the government of the Underworld designed their fake sun to not cause any lethal damage to a Devil's skin.

Still, the annoyance was lingering there.

"..such a persistent child" Ruval sighed as he walked towards the toddler, "Fine then I shall escort you." He then took carried me in his arms and strolled outside of the room.

Rubbing my eyes. I grunted, dissatisfied to be attacked during my sleep.

Glancing up, I saw a bespectacled handsome young man with blond hair with a strand of hair across his face, dressed in a V-neck red long-coat with a wide, open high-collar that opens up at the hem. The long-coat also featured two black belts around the waist and four black bands on each arm, two of the bands at the wrist and the other two near the elbow. He wore grey slacks and brown shoes. (Looks like Azazel outfit during the alliance ark)

"I take it that you slept well last night?" Ruval started the first part of the day with a question, not looking away from the corridor.

Stretching my arms, I nodded with a sigh of satisfaction. "It was great until someone ruined"

That earned Ruval's attention, sending a glance at me and finally went for a fatal attack on my cheeks. "Such cheek, truly Revive truly is a bad influence on you Rye. Well, that shall cease as of this moment" My pompous brother hissed at the end.

"Big bo Ru," I adoringly cried, as I have successfully found, while undergoing various experiments. That addressing my brothers as 'Big bos' yields me the greatest of dotings.

Just like clockwork, I got a loving hum out of my mulling strait-laced brother.

"What is our unique ability?" Meeting his eyes. I asked, trying to scavenge any information about a resident ranker in the rating games.

From far away I could hear the distant voices and utensils, the servants are readying the food, unfortunately the two of us were getting closer. So hopefully I can get a satisfying answer.

"Let's see, how should I explain it." Ruval hummed.

"Our Phenex Family are well-known for their power of immortality. Long story short- We can regenerate lost limbs and even important organs like the brain and the heart. However, you must always remember Rye, our Regeneration is limited by our level of Demonic Energy. So if our energy is depleted our Regeneration stops working."

Ruval simply nodded, looking down at me curiously. "Why the sudden question?"

He asks while carefully ascending the stairs to make sure that we don't trip over, I answered. "To become strong big bo."

We stopped in front of the dining room. A single twist of the door's knob was enough to release the aroma of the morning food.

Ruval, however, didn't plan to do that, yet. "Rye," he started, stopping to properly face me.

"Make sure you have someone to look after when you practice ok? Magic can be very dangerous. "

"Ok big bo, Can you help me later?" Cluthing my hands together in a form of a prayer and looked up at my brother with upturned eyes, hoping to grab the opportunity of being trained by a ranker.

Ruval shook his head, smirking. "Hmm... That remains to be seen, but I do plan to stay around for a while, so if you were to behave properly then I do not see a reason why I cannot teach you a thing or two."

He then set me down as he reached for the knob of the door, When suddenly they were greeted by an energetic Revive.

"Hehe, there's my Riri, I was about to get you. Cuz someone was taking too long" shooting a glare at Ruval the moment he took his seat to my left.

"Wheres, my mom and dad?" Looking at the empty seats at the end of the luxurious marble dining table that was carefully decorated with intricate etchings of what I assume to be a Phoenix, while chowing down some potato cakes.

Did I ever mention how the food was always beyond amazing. The servants really did outdid themselves, once again proving the idea that 'Money does bring you happiness.'

Revive, bless his heart replied while simultaneously eating "They will be away for a few days, but don't worry Riri your big brothers are gonna be staying with you till they come back ahahakuoo, Water!" He finished elegantly as he choked on a bit of bacon.

"Rye, do you now see why following Revive's footsteps is a bad thing?" Ruval criticizes from the side as he frowned in disgust at the choking youth that was hastily gulping down water straight out of the jug.

Revive having recovered, shot the bespectacled blonde to my left a glare "Hey! I resent that. At least I don't have a stick up my a...bum."

And yea, that was pretty much how breakfast continued. Which consisted of the two older blondes going back and forth against each other.

"Here we are," Ruval announced standing in the middle of the backyard with Revive smirking at his side.

It was just like the same view as I seen last time, the only difference being in that my mind was cleared of all useless thoughts.

And may I just say that our backyard full of flowers, fruit trees, and vegetables to the point where it resembles damn forest; and is that a fucking labyrinth made of bushes?!

"Pretty cool, huh?" Revive move at my side with a small smirk on his face.

I simply nodded. "What's the center of the labyrinth?"

"A pool," Revive answered, grinning, "The best pool of all time."

I looked at Revive with a raised brow, but nonetheless, he didn't express his opinion.

"Right," Ruval clapped his hands, getting the attention from the other two. "I'll make the assumption that you know why we are here, right?"

I grinned, feeling excited to start the training. "To begin my training?"

Ruval smiled. "No."

"What?"

"I said no."

"Ah," Gasping while giving him a look of pure betrayal, feeling somewhat cheated. "Big bo you promise"

"I'll stop you there, Rye." Ruval interrupted him, "I said 'That remains to be seen' I never accepted to train you…yet."

"Yet?"

"Yet," Ruval repeated, nodding. "I have a small challenge for you. Now, since you want to practice now with our Clan trait, you'd have to complete my small challenge, if you succeed, I'll train you, if you fail… well…"

"What?"

"You'd have to wait until you turn 5."

"Wait, what?" I was shocked by the revelation, honestly, he wasn't that shocked, because he knows that, sooner or later, I'll learn how to use the power of immortality— albeit not at the same level as my brothers, of course.

The problem here is, I was 3 years old. I can't wait that long and practicing by myself is probably a no go. Considering that Ruval specifically warned me to not use magic without supervision, and would probably keep an eye out during the duration of his stay.

"Deal?" The Bespectacled blonde spoke once again, mustering his strength to not grin in front of his brother.

"Deal." Obviously I wasn't gonna back down, it may look stupid, but I had a plan.

"Alright then, here's your challenge," Ruval coughed under his fist, "Since you want to know how to control the power of immortality or flames for that matter, first you need to start from level one—learning how to use your demonic power."

"That's it?" I frowned, folding my arms. Well I guess thats good in a way, I could use their help to see if I'm channeling my demonic energy correctly.

All in all, My training is starting right now.

"That's it," Ruval confirmed.

Revive whistled, finally making a sound. Faced me and grinned. "Well, guess it's my time to shine haha. Listen carefully Riri, Big bro will teach you how to become super awesome like me," winking. He then pulled out a chair out of a magic circle and gestured for me to sit on it.
