As the gang continued to eat, the door to Burger World suddenly swung open, and a group of police officers entered. Their guarded expressions immediately created an uneasy atmosphere in the restaurant. The usual chatter around the tables quieted, and all eyes fell on the officers as they approached the counter.
"How can we help you, officer?" George, the manager of Burger World, asked with a nervous smile. He was a slim man with red hair and a short stature, his unease showing despite his calm exterior.
"We have reports you might be harboring a known criminal," the officer responded, his voice stern.
"Who?" George asked, raising an eyebrow, genuinely confused.
"Terrance Hog, recent fugitive from the law with charges of first-degree murders and kidnappings," the officer answered, eyeing the room with suspicion.
"How do you know that?" Danny asked, his curiosity piqued.
"Facial recognition, Dan, isn't that right?" Tucker chimed in, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he leaned back in his seat, arms crossed.
"We gotta use the most effective method or things will get awry," the officer replied, clearly trying to stay serious despite the banter from Danny and Tucker.
"Have you ever arrested someone who was innocent?" Danny asked, a skeptical tone in his voice.
"Oh, all the time. It's crazy how many people we arrest that didn't do anything," the officer said with a nervous laugh. "I mean, we probably arrest more innocent people than we do criminals. (nervous laugh) It's crazy."
"Doesn't that seem like kind of a flawed system?" Danny shot back, his brow furrowed.
"Of course not! This way, everyone who breaks the law gets punished," the officer replied with too much confidence, as if he had never questioned the system.
"But so do the innocent people," Danny countered, unimpressed.
"Look, I don't claim to understand the law, I just enforce it. Blindly and without hesitation," the officer explained, shrugging as if it was no big deal.
"You seem like you have no idea what you're doing," Danny said, his voice dripping with disbelief.
"Of course not, why else would they hire me? I mean— (breathy laugh)" the officer chuckled nervously, not realizing how ridiculous he sounded.
"Here's an artist's likeness of what the suspect looks like," another officer said, handing George a sketch of the criminal. "And you think the suspect might be hiding out here?"
"Bingo! The criminal could be disguised as anybody. It could even be... Patrick Stewart!" The officer pointed dramatically, his finger landing on a customer at a table who seemed completely uninterested in the conversation.
"PATRICK STEWART, 'Warp 1, engage!'" someone in the restaurant muttered sarcastically, throwing in a Star Trek reference.
"Mr. Creosote!" another person added, joining in with their own ridiculous quote.
"Even Hayao Miyazaki over there!" one of the customers muttered, gesturing toward a man sitting in the corner, adding to the absurdity of the situation.
"Yeah, he could even be disguising himself as this guy's leg!" Alice added, pulling up someone's pant leg to reveal nothing. "Never mind, false alarm."
The ridiculousness continued as the officer insisted that anyone could be the fugitive, causing even the most serious of people in the restaurant to shake their heads in disbelief. Danny's patience was running thin, and he noticed a man standing in the corner who seemed to be acting suspiciously.
"Those guys will never catch me because they're too dull!" the man muttered under his breath, eyeing the police officers nervously.
Danny's eyes narrowed as he pointed at the man. "Excuse me, sir, would you face this way please?"
The man's eyes widened. "Uh-oh, gotta speed, kid!" he muttered as he bolted for the door, but before he could escape, he was tackled to the ground by the officers.
"Alright, Terrance, you're coming with me," the officer said, pulling the man to his feet.
But as the officers restrained the suspect, something strange caught Danny's eye. The man, George, had his shirt ripped in the middle of the scuffle, revealing a small tattoo of a spider on his chest.
Wait a minute. That tattoo. That belongs to the Yellow Spider! Danny thought to himself, a sense of realization dawning on him.
The officer's eyes widened as he noticed the tattoo as well. "What did he do?" Star asked, her curiosity piqued.
"He poisoned the water supply of Las Vegas, killing thousands and disappearing with that act of chaos. Making it impossible to arrest him. He's a criminal genius," the officer explained, his voice full of awe and dread.
"Man, the legal system sucks all kinds of ass," Danny muttered, feeling frustrated by the whole situation.
"Y'all will never take me alive!" George suddenly shouted, pulling Alice toward him and holding a gun to her head with a vicious smile. "That's right, it's me, George the Yellow Spider: criminal mastermind and part-time fast food restaurant manager!"
"Holy unnecessary plot twist!" Danny facepalmed, utterly dumbfounded by the situation.
"Looks like you just found yourself tangled in a web of lies," Tucker quipped, trying to add some levity to the chaos.
"Shut up, Tucker," Danny groaned, his hand still pressed to his face.
As George continued to hold Alice hostage, his demands echoed through the restaurant, and tension thickened in the air. "Everybody get on the ground or I'll put a bullet in this girl's brain!" he shouted, his grip tightening around her.
Alice's sarcastic voice rang out, though she was clearly in a perilous situation. "Somebody help! He's treating me slightly worse than most other restaurant employers!" Her voice dripped with annoyance as if she had seen worse, but it didn't mask the fear in her eyes.
Danny, completely unfazed by the intensity of the hostage situation, casually lay down on the floor with his hands behind his head. "Is this a bad time to ask for my tip back?" he said nonchalantly, his tone just shy of bored.
Tucker chimed in, lying next to Danny. "Here we are at hostage situation!" His voice had an upbeat, almost playful quality as if this were some sort of bizarre game.
"Hey, somebody fetch me some booze and a smoke," the criminal demanded, his voice dripping with impatience.
Sam, always the realist, shot a skeptical glance toward him. "Why would either of those things be in a fast food restaurant?"
Tucker grinned, pointing over to a man in the corner who had been muttering about animation. "It's the only thing Miyazaki ever orders. Isn't that right, Mr. Miyazaki?"
The man, clearly deep in thought, glared over at them. "Shut up! I'm trying to animate cute shit over here!" he snapped, too distracted by his work to be bothered with the situation at hand.
"Hey, girly, why don't you sing us a tune while I wait for my booze?" George demanded, looking at Alice with a smirk.
Without missing a beat, Alice raised her chin and began to sing, her voice bright but slightly mocking. "'Cause baby you're a fiiiiiiiiiirework! A-la-la-la-la-la fiiiiiiiiiiiirework! Something, something fiiiiiiiiiiirework!" she belted out, her voice echoing through the restaurant.
"That's enough!" George roared, slapping Alice across the face with all his might. The sound of the slap resonated, leaving the room in stunned silence.
Alice collapsed to the floor, and Tristan, who had been silently watching, rushed over with concern. "Alice, are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay, Alice?"
Dash, however, saw an opportunity to have some fun. He leaned over with a grin, responding to Tristan's panicked inquiry. "She's been hit by. (bang, bang) She's been struck by. (bang) (singing) A smooth criminal." His voice was light, almost as if he were enjoying the absurdity of the situation.
While everyone else processed the events, Danny was already slipping away into the ground, his ghostly form emerging as Phantom. A mischievous smile played on his lips as he reappeared behind George, who was still holding Alice at gunpoint.
"I couldn't help noticing you're not being mind-fucked right now. Thought I'd pop over and fix that," Danny said with a grin, his presence causing George to freeze, his eyes wide with fear.
"Don't come any closer!" George stuttered, his hand shaking as he pointed the gun at Danny. He fired, but the shot only struck a vodka bottle nearby, causing it to explode in a spray of alcohol.
"Careful there, you might get burned. It might be the only thing 100% beef in this restaurant," Danny quipped, his tone playful despite the seriousness of the situation.
With a growl of frustration, George lunged forward, attempting to tackle Danny. But in an instant, a burst of fire erupted from the vodka bottle that had been hit. George shrieked in agony as the flames consumed him, his body writhing in pain.
"I'll teach you to insult my restaurant's health standards! Aaaaaaaaaah! I'm on fire!" he screamed, the fire burning his clothes and skin.
"HAHA, now that's what I call a sick burn!" Danny exclaimed, a devilish grin spreading across his face as he watched the chaos unfold.
Tucker, ever the voice of reason in this bizarre moment, muttered, "Man, that's pretty fucked up."
With a wave of his hand, Danny quickly extinguished the flames using his ghostly powers. George collapsed to the ground, badly burned and unconscious from the pain.
Star, watching the entire spectacle unfold, thought to herself, That was so hot! Her gaze never left Danny, her heart pounding as she admired his ability to handle the situation so effortlessly.
Meanwhile, Sam, unable to stomach the stench of cooked human flesh, turned to the side and retched.
Paulina, on the other hand, tried to avoid looking at the horrific scene. She found herself lost in thought. They don't feel much from seeing this at all, she realized, her mind racing. Tucker, Sam, Danny, and Dash... They're all so casual about this, so unaffected. It makes me question what I've stepped into.
But then a smile tugged at her lips. Girl, what are you even thinking about? I've always been bad, so the only one that suits me is someone crazy. Her thoughts turned back to Danny, and she leapt at the opportunity to show her affection, silently saying, I know.
Danny, sensing her move before she even acted, grinned widely. "Mademoiselle, may I have the pleasure of giving you a ride through the beautiful skies?" he teased, sweeping Paulina off her feet effortlessly.
Without waiting for a response, Danny shot into the air, flying high above the restaurant. The others, including Sam, were each given their own platform to ride on, with Dash standing confidently next to Danny as they soared through the sky together.
For the first time as a team, they hung out openly, their bonds strengthened by their shared experiences and the chaos of their adventures. It was a moment of freedom, of connection, and for Danny and Paulina, it was an exhilarating reminder that they belonged together—crazy and all.
