Inside the tunnel, it took a whole minute for the sights of the three people to get use to the darkness.
"Do you have anything to throw?" Li Nuxie asked.
"Anything to throw?" Huang Wensheng echoed what Li Nuxie just said. "Why do we need to throw something?"
Li Chao shook his head. The teenager near him was still a babe in the woods. "To know if there are traps ahead," he explained. At the same time, his hands went inside the pockets of the protective suit.
His eyebrows furrowed as he touched a hard object. His heart beat went faster as he pulled it out from the pocket.
Pressing it, the area surrounding them was illuminated.
"Wow, how lucky you are elder brother to have a flashlight," Huang Wensheng commented.
Li Chao shook his head. "This is just a flashlight key chain. It will not last," he said while staring at the key chain. Judging from it, this seemed to be a souvenir. He took a deep breath, remembering those people they left inside the van. At first glance, these people cannot be found since they were covered with blankets and piles of boxes.
Li Nuxie drew her lips together, watching the facial expression of her elder brother. "Do you feel regret now?" she asked, completely aware of what Li Chao was thinking.
"The world is survival of the fittest," Li Chao answered his sister. Whether he felt regret or not, now was not the time to dwell on that.
Li Nuxie extended her hand, reaching for the flashlight key chain currently dangling from her brother's hand. Li Chao's eyebrows knitted as he watched Li Nuxie took away the flashlight. "What do you intend to do?" he asked, although he already has an idea.
His sister didn't answer him. Instead, Li Nuxie raised her hand and threw the key chain to the endless darkness in front of them. She sucked her breath when the originally dark space suddenly became illuminated with thin red lights that danced against the dark.
It made one feel like she was inside a club, dancing to the modern tune of electronic dance music. As she threw the flashlight up into the air in front of them, the flashlight instantly collided with the thin red lights. A buzzing sound was heard and four irregular shapes of plastic fell on the floor. The sound creating a ripple inside that tunnel.
The large part of the tunnel was once again engulfed in darkness. Li Chao pursed his lips. He doesn't know if they can get out of this place alive. He took a glance over his sister. Li Nuxie's eyes were fixated on those dancing lights.
"You cannot be thinking what I'm thinking, Xiexie?" Li Chao's voice disturbed her thoughts.
Li Nuxie raised her shoulders. "What can I say? We came from the same womb, don't you know?"
"Too dangerous, Xiexie. We need to retreat first." In fact, Li Chao was not confident himself. The path in front of them was a suicide one. If they push through, they will meet the King of Hell earlier than what the fate planned for them. One Billion for that red drive. The stakes were just too high.
Li Nuxie curled her lips as she stood up. No matter if it was in the past or in the present, once she made her move, she wouldn't concede at all. This was her way of doing things.
Huang Wensheng also stood up. His eyes were looking back and forth from Li Chao to Li Nuxie. Although he doesn't know much, he knew that those lights will make them lose their lives if they were not careful.
"I'll go first," Li Nuxie informed them.
"No, I should be first," Li Chao contradicted his sister's statement. What kind of brother would just watch his sister go into the abyss of destruction?
Li Nuxie just stared at her brother. Those laser beams that danced against those moldy walls have occasionally illuminated the face of Li Chao. His brother was the type to run away from problems. Well, at least, that was how she viewed him. Whenever he faced a problem he thought he could not solve, the first thing he would do was to pack his things up. Unless of course, Li Nuxie needed help. Then Li Chao would go out of his way to help his sister.
She pressed her lips in a thin line. "I will do it. My body built is smaller than you. Besides, you didn't learn ballet. I did." Li Nuxie stood up.
Li Chao opened his mouth to retort but not a word came out. He was not aware that his sister took ballet lessons. He pushed himself to stand up. His eyes followed those laser beams. In his calculation, the laser beams changed directions every ten seconds.
Li Nuxie was not sure if she can disable those beams so that Li Chao and Huang Wensheng can follow her. But the more time they remain idle, the higher possibility those people hunting them can find them. She made a decision then.
At the other side of Country M, a man was pacing back and forth inside the monitoring room. His clenched fists rested on his side. The walls were accented with different kinds of computer monitors which displayed the different areas inside the country.
A while ago, his men informed him that the people inside the van were nowhere to be found. However, there were unconscious people inside. Still, the van was found a few meters away from the 'site'. Could it be that? The man shook his head. Impossible, he thought. They would not be that lucky to just fall from the sky and just stood up in front of the barrier. Of course, he didn't know that it was exactly what had happened earlier. If he knew, he might suffer a cardiac arrest.
"Double time! Find those people!" His hollowed voice echoed inside the room. No one answered but the tapping on the keyboards intensified as if they are preparing a report for the president.
