The Old Madam Xu and her grandson has already left Li Chanying's house. However, the tense atmosphere remained.
Li Chanying was seated on the sofa, the cup of tea in her hand went cold already. Her lips were pressed tightly as her eyes remained in daze.
She agreed with Old Madam Xu because that's the best thing to do at the moment. But honestly speaking, getting the affection of the Second Young Master Xu was not part of her goals in life.
She has been burnt with the thing called love. She doesn't want to experience it again. She put the cup on the coffee table before leaning her back on the sofa.
She sighed helplessly as she closed her eyes. How did she end up in this situation? All she has done was to look out for her cousin and this was what she got.
She groaned, stretching her legs in front of her. "Damn, Li Chanying. You better figure it out before the day ends," she said loudly.
Or else, Li Nuxie and Hong Chi would do it for her. And that was what she was avoiding the most.
The sound of the doorbell pulled her out from her musings. She glanced at the direction of the main door. Here they come, she thought.
She stood up, exhaling sharply before heading to the main door.
At the other side of the door, Li Nuxie and Hong Chi stood side by side each other. Li Nuxie called her friend to pick her up from the Octagon Hotel.
"So, how does it look like?" Hong Chi asked her while waiting for the door to open.
"Which?"
Hong Chi rolled her eyes. "The room at Octagon Hotel."
Her cousin and Hong Chi have not visited the hotel since its opening. It was their way of showing their support to Li Nuxie.
"I don't do mediocre designs," was Li Nuxie's response.
Hong Chi nodded. No wonder the Octagon Hotel remained its status as the best hotel in Country C.
That's all thanks to the original designer.
The door opened and revealed Li Chanying with dark circles under her eyes.
"Omg, Ying," Hong Chi covered her mouth with her palm. "Did Xu Ming made you work hard last night?"
Li Chanying's fingers ran through her hair. "You are not welcome in my house," she said as she opened the door wide.
Hong Chi just laughed before going inside. Li Nuxie followed the two women to the living room.
"What's the real deal with your engagement?" Li Nuxie asked right away. She occupied the single sofa while Hong Chi settled on her favorite couch pillow on the floor.
"You know it's a sham, Xiexie," Li Chanying reached for the throw pillow, placing it on her lap.
Li Nuxie crossed her legs. She eyed Li Chanying who was twirling some loose ends on the throw pillow.
She was definitely flustered.
"Did the two of you talk?" Li Nuxie asked after a while.
Li Chanying shrugged. "Nothing to talk about. We knew our deal, Xiexie. The two of you," she glanced at Hong Chi before she continued. "Please, stay out of it."
"Just tell us if you need help then. We're always ready to provide back up," Hong Chi said.
Li Chanying smiled tightly. "About that, he already arrived at City S last night," she informed them nonchalantly.
The 'he' made Li Nuxie straightened her back. She folded her arms in front of her chest.
"He's back?"
Her cousin nodded, eyes glassy.
Hong Chi stood up, going behind Li Chanying. She wrapped her arms around her. "Do you want to see him?"
Li Chanying shook her head as she grasped Hong Chi's arm. "Definitely not. He came back with his wife," the tears fell down on her cheeks.
"Am I not good enough? Just because I was adopted?" her voice was broken that Li Nuxie cannot help but clenched her fists.
"It doesn't matter anymore, Ying. A man who marry for power is not good enough. Besides, it's been three years already," Li Nuxie told her.
Li Chanying wiped her tears with the back of her hand. "That's a short time to move on. "We've been together since college."
Hong Chi rubbed her back gently. "But he threw it away. The woman was not even part of the Triad Families," she said, trying to make her feel better.
"I'm not anymore," Li Chanying lowered her head.
"Stop it, will you?" Li Nuxie spat the words. "Whether you are a member of the Triad or not, that man has already left you. No use in crying over spilled milk."
Li Chanying sniffed. "I don't drink milk, Xiexie."
"Okay, no use in crying over spilled whatever you drink," she rolled her eyes.
Hong Chi chuckled at the banter of the two cousins. "I've heard that man was applying for a job at Empire Systems."
Li Nuxie turned her head, her eyes narrowing into slits. "What job?"
"Chief Programmer," Hong Chi glanced at the puffy face of her friend. "Do you want to compete? You're the one who taught him about computers, right?"
Li Nuxie waved her hand dismissively. "And I was the one who taught her," she pointed at Li Chanying. "Don't waste your time with that jerk, Ying. We have so much things to do."
Li Chanying arched her eyebrow. "Who said about wasting my time on him?"
"So it was fine with you to waste your tears but not your time?"
She raised her shoulders in a half-shrug. "My eyes were too dry. I need to cry."
Hong Chi's laughter reverberated throughout the living room.
"Then cry until your eyes bled dry. Just make sure you can still do your job," Li Nuxie said.
"We have something to do?" Hong Chi removed her arms from Li Chanying.
"We need money. So yes, we have something to do," Li Nuxie stood up. "Let's talk about it at the study room.
Li Chanying and Hong Chi followed the woman in front of them.
