The next day, they were preparing to return to the Lenzburg Villa. Liam Reynolds and Adam Anthony gathered their camping stuff and wrapped them finely.
Liam looks around, but he can't find her youngest daughter. Instantly, his chest thumps so loud, praying that his fear is wrong.
"Denise, did you see your sister?" he asked his older daughter.
"She was just sitting here, Papa." Denise pointed to a rock near their camp.
"You supposed to watch your sister." Liam firmly reminded his daughter.
"But she was just here a while ago," Denise stresses. "I'll look for her!" she left and looked around to the nearby place they camp at. "Deana?" she called out loudly.
"Deana!" Mikaela helps Denise to look for her sister. They were trailing the woods this time.
While looking for Deana, they heard the dogs: Winter and Summer, barking in the distance. Spencer runs fast toward his dogs. He followed them when they came closer to the river; they wanted to jump in the water. They were barking endlessly at the stream and showing restlessness.
"Where's Spring?" Spencer asked Matteo who was the one he found with the dogs. Occasionally, Summer barks at him.
"Matteo, what happened?" he asked his younger brother.
"I- I don't know! I come here when they don't stop barking!"
Adam arrived immediately. He asked his sons. "Boys, what happened?"
"I'm asking him where is Deana and Spring," Spencer answered him.
"No. Don't tell me; my daughter drowned in there!" Liam holds the back of his head and looks frightened. "Deana!"
"What did exactly happen?" Spencer holds Matteo on his collar.
"Why are you accusing me?" Matteo tried to get free from his hold.
"Enough! Let's go look for her where this river flows!" Adam suggested. But suddenly, Spencer jumps on the stream. "Spencer!" Shocked by what his son did, he advises him. "Be careful! There is a waterfall halfway!"
The streams have a wild flow. I am not mentioning the vast rocks both on the riverside banks.
"Deana knows how to swim. But the current is too strong for her. Oh, please be safe, sweetheart." he prays.
"Let's go check the lower part of this stream," Adam patted Liam's shoulder. He then turns to his other son. "Simon! Go back to our stuff and call your grandfather. Tell him what happened."
"Yes, Papa!"
"Girls, stay with Simon! Jonas and Matteo, come with us!" Adam and the rest followed the dogs. They were like tracking down Spring; it must be their natural senses.
Meanwhile, Spencer tried his best to avoid the rocks he passed by. He began thinking if Deana could dodge away from these rocks. He's worried she hit one of them, but he still cannot find her.
"Deana!" he keeps shouting while the current shuffle him down. "Deana, can you hear me?"
"No. The waterfall!" he could see it now.
Spencer held his breath as much as he could when the ravaging water pushed him down below to the foot of the waterfall. He tries to ascend to catch his breath; then, he feels a sudden pain in his left leg. Not only that, the water flung him on the nearest rocks. He forces turning around and lets his back contact them. The pain rushes to his head after he hits the rock.
But he has no time to worry about himself. Deana, he needs to find her. He let the stream take him further, and then he heard a dog barking somewhere on the shore.
'Spring!' It was Spring! He looks around and found the dog leaning on someone. It was Deana!
He stretches his arms and kicks his foot freestyle to get on the shore. "Deana!" he shouted.
She lost consciousness. Spencer was puzzled about what to do. Then he needs to perform CPR. Attending the Section 14 Camp taught him basic first aid, including when someone is drowning. He then prepares himself to perform CPR on Deana. Spencer began giving Deana the first steps before he performed chest compression. He repeated, giving Deana rescue breaths and then chest compression.
Spring is wagging his tail and seems impatient. He barks at him, likely encouraging him to perform it properly and don't stop. After the third try, Deana began coughing and releasing the water she drank.
"Deana?" But Deana looks frightened at him. Her face twitches, and she moves away from him, but she feels weak.
"Deana, it is me. It's okay now."
It took a moment before she stopped moving but then burst out crying. He instantly throws his arms around her. It must scare her when she began dragging by the stream.
"Deana!" Liam is now ascending from the stream. He'd follow Spencer, trailing the current.
"Papa!"
"Oh, sweetheart! It must scare you." Liam tightly hugged his daughter. "Thank you, Spencer." He looked up and thanked him.
"No, Uncle. It was Spring who was here to save her. I already saw them on the shore. Spring must drag her out from the water."
"Oh. What a good boy." Liam pet the dog.
"Spring!" Deana hugs the dog. And shows affection toward her, grazing her face, telling how worried it was to her.
"Good job, Spring." Spencer brushes his dog's body. "You're a good boy!" he praises the wonder dog.
"I will inform your father about our situation and location," Liam said, then contacted Adam over a radio.
Because it is difficult to climb the hill, an emergency helicopter saves them. Spencer's also admitted to the hospital with the bruises he got and a concussion on the back of his head.
He woke up in the middle of the night and heard a faint cry from the other bed. He turned his head and realized; it was Deana. He steps down from his bed and strides closer to the next bed.
"Deana, are you okay?" he sits on her bed but is hesitant to touch her.
"Mama," she cries.
Is she dreaming about her mama? Spencer thought about what he should do. He's not used comforting someone, as he always chooses to be alone and do things on his own.
"Deana…" he decides to pat her back while she continues sobbing under her blanket. She must be in trauma and still remembers what happened earlier.
He felt her body move. She sat up and threw her arms around his waist, and continued crying quietly. He just continued patting her back until she stopped and parted from him. She stares at him for a long moment.
It surprised Spencer when Deana reached for his forehead. Her eyes widened, and worriedly, she looks at him. Yes, he's burning with fever, and she must feel it while hugging him. He patted her head, and Deana partly smiled already.
