Chapter 2 - A drink

She had always wanted to draw in everyone's attention. And with time, Yelena became a master at stealing the spotlight. To the point where she does it subconsciously, it seems to be ingrained in her bones. Her love for attention led to her choosing a career where she can have billions of eyes on her. But it wasn't enough. Yelena, was a star, the brightest star in all of France. But her light couldn't catch the eye of the person who mattered most. And now here she is alone, irritated by all the eyes prying into her.

She was halfway through a bottle of Chateau Haut-Brion and was obviously losing her senses. The facade that she's kept up for years was slowly cracking, as her poised posture relaxed and the rim of her eyes reddened. With the dimmed lighting in the private room that she was in, no one could see the fluctuation of emotions that was being suppressed in her eyes. No one was there to see it anyway. And that was the problem.

Tonight was supposed to be about her. Yelena pursed her lips as she thought about how her childhood friend Nathaniel had promised to come to the award show and celebrate with her afterward. Only for him to bail on her. Thinking of how much time and effort she spent composing the album that won the award made her heart clench painfully. It was called "Celui qui était à mes côtés" meaning, The one who was by my side, Yelena had spent years writing it about Nathaniel. She had intended to play it for him to confess her love…

He didn't show, didn't call. Yelena had done some digging and found out that he was with another friend of theirs from childhood. Abby Love, her best friend, and confidant. He ignored Yelena on the most important day of her life to spend with her best friend. And Abby doesn't even care that Yelena has won a Victoires de la Musique award and acts as if today were a normal day.

So Yelena celebrates alone. She's always been alone.

With these thoughts in mind, Yelena continues drinking

The entire bottle of wine has been fully consumed and Yelena was completely intoxicated. Although not sober she was still as composed as ever. So when she left her private room, the attendant didn't suspect a thing and called the valet to retrieve her car without a question. Yelena walked with stable steps while wearing five-inch stilettos. Even now, as she exits the wine bar Yelena attracts the eyes of the customers with her bearing. But unlike the usual comfort that they bring, the feeling of being watched causes her to quicken her steps to get into her car.

With composed haste, she elegantly enters her pink Porsche. Once in Yelena speeds off as if she was being chased by something. Even now on the road, she's still composed, although her mind is spinning and she can the beginnings of a headache coming along.

She's convinced herself that she's perfectly fine and capable of driving before she left. But now that she's on the road Yelena wasn't so sure. It was when she swerved into another lane multiple times that she decided to go to a nearby hotel.

"Angela, give me directions to the nearest hotel." She told her car system.

And she ended up at Victory Embassy. By now Yelena was rocking a serious headache and her vision was swaying. It felt really difficult for her to park and enter the hotel lobby and to get a suite for herself. But she managed. Well, almost. Yelena took the elevator to the eighth floor. Because of her drunkenness, her natural awareness of her surroundings was impaired. So, she didn't realize that the elevator she had entered was occupied.

Innocently, Yelena stared at the numbers as they went up to her floor. That was a poor choice because it made her legs feel weak and it became hard for her to stand. To alleviate the stuffiness she was feeling Yelena leaned onto the wall for support. "Come on, I can hang on till I get to the room" She whispered to herself. Unbeknown to Yelena, her breathing accelerated. She could feel the cold and darkness creeping in her sight, but she stubbornly kept her eyes on the number board as the reached the seventh floor. But unfortunately she lost consciousness just as the doors opened for the eighth floor.
