Chapter 3 - Nolan

Nolan was mindlessly listening to the report of his assistant when the elevator doors opened. Before he could exit someone entered, seemingly in a hurry and quickly pressed the doors closed and the button for the eighth floor.

"Um, Sir-" Before Charles could continue Nolan signaled him to be quiet. He understood his concern. In the past month there have been countless attempts on his life. And this elevator was an enclosed space that they couldn't escape from easily if this were to be a planned attack. But something told Nolan to observe this girl. With a hint of laziness in his gaze Nolan appraised her appearance. Her blonde was styled extravagantly and her clothes seemed to be rather flashy. She didn't look like a threat.

It took less than five minutes for Nolan to notice that something was wrong with her. She had kept fidgeting and repositioning herself and her ears were rather flushed. He glanced at Charles who immediately understood what he needed and prepared his medical team just in case anything happened. It was quiet in the elevator. The only sound was the occasional ding that was made each time they passed a floor. But soon the sound of heavy breathing accompanied it. With his brows pinched together, Nolan watched as the girl before him hyperventilated. If they made it to his floor he wouldn't take any action because there would be no need for it. And honestly, Nolan didn't want to have to deal with any more assumptions made by the press and hoped that this girl would make it out the elevator alright. But of course things didn't happen the way he wished. Because right as the elevator doors opened the girl fainted.

Before he even realized he did so, Nolan reached out to catch her as she fell. A feeling of discomfort washed over Nolan as he held this mysterious woman in his arms. Suppressing the urge to dump her on the ground, he walked forward and entered his room. It was a room especially reserved for him at Victory Embassy and normally no one entered aside from Charles.

"Who is she?" Nolan asked Charles as he laid her down onto his bed.

Charles eyed Nolan's actions with blatant confusion. Nolan had a tendency to avoid allowing others to touch his personal items, so him laying a strange girl on his bed was surprising.

While Charles was lost in his thoughts Nolan was waiting for an answer. Seeing his assistant in a daze Nolan patiently waited for him. Not.

Nolan gave him a chilled glance that knocked Charles out of his stupor and he began spewing the information her found.

"Sir, her name is Yelena Ivanov. She is twenty-two this year. Daughter of Augustus Ivanov and Melissa Linas. Her parents are divorced, Melissa has married Lance Anillo. Yelena is an artist and has just won an award at the Victoires de la Musique. Should I continue sir?"

Nolan silently gazed at the sleeping figure on his bed. So she's an artist? Interesting. From where he sat Nolan had a clear view of her face and noted that she was blessed with good looks.

In the corner of his eye he saw a blue aura shining faintly from her abdomen. Nolan watched its movements as he waited for Yelena to wake up. The blue aura swirled, in an odd push and pull rhythm. And it was consistent. The rhythm only changed once Yelena showed signs of waking up. Without him noticing the night had passed and it was now morning. Although it wouldn't harm him Nolan still preferred to get a full nights sleep.

Once Yelena began to stir the blue aura started to fade. And it was completely gone once she opened her eyes.

How peculiar, Nolan thought.
