Chapter 12 - The Confrontation

"The lowest scorer would be expelled?!"

"It's only the first day! I mean, even if it weren't... It's totally unfair!!!"

As the majority of the students present were panicking, I sat somewhere behind them calmly, using their shadows to block the sunlight. I already knew that Aizawa-sensei wouldn't end up sticking to his words anyways so, what's the use of panicking?

But, in any case, I shouldn't tell them. I won't have anything to watch if I did. That's just counterproductive.

Hah...

I'm still sleepy.

"Heroes are the ones... who correct all that unfairness." Aizawa said seriously, though his quiet voice was barely audible through all the students whispering. "If you were hoping to spend your evenings at McDonald's... I'm sorry to tell you... for the next three years... U.A. will run you through the wringer."

"That's Plus Ultra. Use your strength to overcome it all. So bring it."

Ah... Somehow, the atmosphere began blazing all of a sudden. What's up with these people? Getting fired up so easily... This is one of the things I just don't get with anime.

Can't we all just live life calmly?

"The demonstration is over. Now, it's for real."

Hahhh... I want to skip class.

...

50-meter Dash

First up were Iida Tenya (quirk: Engine; He had engines on both of his legs which helped in enhancing his speed. A mobility type) and Asui Tsuyu (quirk: Frog-Form; She can pretty much do what a frog can do. A balanced type.)

For this test, we were being put in pairs to save time.

But...

"3.04 seconds... 5.58 seconds..."

It would be nice if I were paired up with Sero-kun so I could closely study his mobility style and integrate it with my own though, I probably won't be able to see much.

Anyways, from what I can see, most people here don't really use their quirks in a more creative way. Supposedly, they don't really explore the limits of their quirks' usage.

Oh... Aoyama has a very straightforward quirk with limited usage, Navel Laser, so he tends to be more creative in its usage...

Previously, I haven't either (mostly due to laziness) but, after creating a new way to use my strings during the exam to aid in my mobility, I began to slowly discover more ways to use my quirk...

By taking notes from other anime... mostly.

Uraraka chose to lighten her clothes to help increase her speed but... maybe we could improve her overall mobility... Can't have her becoming another Sakura.

Aside from that, Bakugo seems to have figured his quirk out perfectly already. And, even if I gave some suggestions, he most likely would just brush me off with a couple of explosions... Hah...

While I was thinking to myself, Izuku had somehow finished his turn without using his quirk and got 7.02 seconds.

I would help him control his quirk easier but, that would totally ruin his chance in learning from Gran Torino in the future... Maybe I should just let him figure it out himself.

"Next pair. 19 and 20."

And then my turn came. Surprisingly, I'm paired with Yaoyorozu Momo, the girl who is famed for having the same power as god, creation, as well as being Todoroki Shoto's most approved ship aside from TodoDeku.

Anyways, whichever ship does end up sailing, I'll actively support it. Good luck.

Feeling a strange gaze from the spot beside her, Yaoyorozu turned her head to look but saw nothing suspicious. In the end, she just let it go, thinking it was just her imagination.

"Start."

With a crouching start, I used my strings the same way I did during the exam, coiling it around the unsuspecting Bakugo's waist and hauling myself over.

Thank you, Bakugo, for being heavy and having good reflexes. I'll treat you to more ice cream later.

"WHA- SHITTY EYES!!!" As I passed over the fuming Bakugo's head, I took the time to make a short eye contact and... mockingly grinned.

And a perfect landing!

"3.13 seconds..."

Hearing the result, my eyes involuntarily narrowed in satisfaction. "Ho~ Look at who's exactly one second faster than you~"

"SHITTY EYES!!! COME AND FIGHT ME ONE ON ONE IF YOU DARE!!! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!"

Ah~ Did I provoke him too much?

"Haha~ Still mad that I took first place?~" Although I knew how dangerous the situation I'm in right now is, I couldn't seem to stop my mouth. Ah... It'll resolve itself somehow.

Or I can just create a bigger chaos that will somehow cancel this one.

"THEN I'LL JUST HAVE TO PUT YOU IN YOUR PLACE THIS TIME!!! I'LL WREST THAT FIRST PLACE AWAY FROM YOU, GOT IT??!!!"

Oh~ So this is what it feels like to be the subject of Bakugo Katsuki's face to face screaming! Such a novel experience!

"Bring it on, bomberman." I grinned at him calmly. Somehow, that seemed to piss him off even more but, surprisingly, he managed to reign it in and stormed off.

During the confrontation, we managed to garner quite a few nervous gazes as well as Aizawa-sensei getting ready to step in, in case it escalated to a fight. Izuku, meanwhile, had a hesitant look, not knowing if he should stop us or not.

Fortunately, nothing big happened and it looked like it had resolved itself.

So, for the next tests, I had the feeling that Bakugo was purposely targeting me and showing off his results but, I managed to calmly deal with it...

By beating him at every single one.

Grip strength? I'll just wrap my strings tighter and tighter until it can't go further anymore. They're metallic anyways. They won't snap easily. In the end, I had the best result in that test, getting 895 kg. That's enough pressure to destroy an elephant's bones and internal organs.

Standing Long Jump? Okay. Let me just create springs underneath my feet and launch myself to Hawaii. Don't worry. I'll make sure to bring back souvenirs... That was an exaggeration but I still managed to get a good result of 22 meters.

In the end, it was time for the last test, the softball throw, which, I didn't have to take anymore.

During the whole time, Bakugo's expression kept getting darker and darker after losing to me at all the tests.

In any case, I just slumped on the ground, hugging my knees, the fatigue finally catching up after the adrenaline began to wear off.

Hah...

Then, for this last test, I guess I'll just be a cheerleader.

Go! Izuku!...?

He's probably gonna need support for when Aizawa erases his quirk.

Mm... Then, I'll temporarily be that mental support.
