"So... Why exactly did you call me to come here at nearly midnight?"
"Come on~ Don't be so cold. I told you about a good ice cream place and even invited you on a midnight date, my treat! Aren't we already friends at this point?"
"To an extent, I suppose you are correct but, I still want to know what your purpose is, Toga Himiko-san."
"Ah, so you do know my name! As expected of the number one examinee of U.A. High, Yamori Kaito!"
My eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"Curious?" Toga smiled cunningly. "Well, the answer isn't as wild as you're thinking though. I just managed to find your profile online... though it took me a whole week. But hey! Atleast I found it!"
I inwardly sighed in relief. Fortunately, it wasn't what I thought it was. For a moment, I had a suspicion that she had joined the league of villains much earlier than she was supposed to but after hearing her explanation, I was momentarily relieved.
"The reason I called you here is very simple." Toga sipped her milkshake. "I want you to answer one question honestly. Consider it payment for telling you about the ice cream shop."
I took a bite of a burger hesitantly while weighing the pros and the cons. "Alright."
"Good choice." Toga smiled brightly. "Then..."
"Why... do you insist on acting like a hero... when your heart begs to be a villain?"
...
...Hah.
The wind feels really nice here.
I wonder, if I fell asleep right here, would anyone find me?
Now, I know why a lot of characters in the anime that I watched liked to go here.
It really is relaxing...
Laying alone and playing retro games on the roof during lunch break.
It's lunch break, isn't it?
If it's lunch break, then, why are you just laying on the roof, playing games, and not eating?
The answer is, I can't.
My stomach has problems.
Can't eat breakfast or I'll puke. Can't eat lunch or I'll puke. Can't eat snacks or I'll puke.
I can only eat at around dinner time when the acid in my stomach has already settled down.
Hah... even drinking coffee or energy drinks makes me queasy.
At most, I can just drink warm tea and bland crackers.
See, this is what happens to your body when you skip one too many meals and stayed up one too many nights.
Funny how fragile the human body is when overpowered quirks are everywhere, right?
Inherently, we are still too weak.
Nya..?
"Oh right. I forgot that you actually had to eat unlike me." I muttered to myself as I temporarily put down the old gameboy that I was playing with.
As I took out the can of fish flakes from my bag and opened it, a sudden crash interrupted my secret alone time on the roof.
"OI, SHITTY EYES!!!" Ah, that guy...
And, from the door leading to the rooftop, a boy with explosive hair, explosive quirk, and explosive temper, came barreling towards me in anger.
"Ahem. If you are here for private counseling, please press 1. If you are here to issue a challenge and have a hearty rooftop battle, please press 2. If you are here to scream your frustrations and inferiority complex away, please press 3. If you are here to have questions answered, please press 4."
"4!!!"
"Ah, he really said it. I don't know if he's just really good at following instructions or he's an idiot... Maybe it's both..."
"QUIT SCREWING WITH ME AND JUST ANSWER IT, SHITTY EYES!!!" Bakugo shouted quite loudly, startling Mashiro into jumping, her fur raised.
"Ah... I'm too sleepy for this..." I rubbed my face and put the opened can on the floor. "Here, Mashiro. Lunch."
"So, what's your question?" I rummaged through my bag, looking for something.
Hah... What's with people today? They keep looking for me and asking questions.
"THAT SHITTY NERD!!!" Bakugo growled angrily.
"Shitty nerd? Who's that? I don't know anyone who goes by that name." I stuck my tongue out and cut him off.
"YOU KNOW WHO I'M TALKING ABOUT, SHITTY EYES!!! THAT SHIT, DEKU!!!" Bakugo fumed, looking as if he would not hesitate to kill me if I spout another word.
"Oh~ You meant Izuku~" I smiled at him calmly. "What about Izuku?"
"You knew, didn't you..?" All of a sudden, Bakugo's voice turned quiet, as if it physically pained him to squeeze out those words.
"Hmm? Knew what?" I asked, pretending to not know what he was talking about.
"THAT DEKU!!!" Bakugo burst out again. "You knew, didn't you? You knew! YOU KNEW HE WASN'T A QUIRKLESS RUNT, HUH??!!"
"Oh...? Is that all you wanted to know?" I squinted my eyes and grinned. "Of course, I knew."
"Who do you think spent the most time with him this past year?"
...
Ah~ It hurts...
That guy really did punch me. How ruthless~
I laughed, finding the whole situation ironic.
In the end, after giving him that careless answer, Bakugo shouted, "YOU THINK YOU CAN LOOK DOWN ON ME?!! JUST BECAUSE I LET YOU WIN A FEW TIMES, HUH??!!"
"Oh?~ Isn't it all in your head?" I laughed at his strange question. "No one is looking down on you, Bakugo."
"The only person who is looking down on you, is you. Don't blame your inferiority complex on other people."
Bang!
The next thing I knew, the left side of my jaw was already throbbing.
Ah~ I got punched~
"Listen here, shitty eyes..." Bakugo said with with gritted teeth. "I don't give a shit about what you think. But..."
"Even if it's you or Deku... I'LL FUCKING BEAT YOU BOTH!!!"
SLAM!
And, once again, I am left alone...
Nya..?
"Oh right. You were still here." I smiled at Mashiro who showed her concern by rubbing her head on my hand. "Thanks. But I'm fine."
I patted her head to comfort her. "You must've been scared, right? It's okay now."
I grabbed a small package from my bag and was about to open it when my phone suddenly rang.
...Home number? Did something happen?
"Bocchama! I'm really sorry for calling you right when you should be concentrating in school but, it's an emergency!" Kanae's panicked voice spoke, in the background, quite a few people could be heard speaking.
"What happened?" Despite the bad feeling that settled in my gut, I did my best to suppress it and act calmly. The more dire the situation, the more we shouldn't lose our heads.
"That... Bocchama... The miss went missing!" The answer made me furrow my eyebrows.
"How long has she been missing?"
"It's been more than three hours! We immediately called the police department to help us search but, there was a villain attack nearby earlier today so it was too chaotic! In the end, the response was too late and now, we still haven't found her!" From her voice, it could be easily discerned how nervous she really was.
"Calm down." I sighed, feeling extremely tired. "Let the police do their job and wait. We won't be able to do anything to help anyways. Tell Mari-san to proceed with things as usual. I'll handle it when school ends."
I quickly hung up, exhausted. Staring up at the sky, I saw pristine white clouds and a beautiful blue sky. Sitting here, it really seems like no matter what problem arises, the rest of the world will continue as usual, unaffected by it all.
Hah...
Some days really are much worse than others.
I bit a cigarette between my teeth, lit it up, and inhaled a mouthful of nicotine.
But, it's slowly becoming more interesting~
...
"Why... do you insist on acting like a hero... when your heart begs to be a villain?"
"Why? Well... I don't really care if I'm a hero or a villain. The most important thing is that I'm having fun right now. So... If ever I get bored one day, maybe I'll give the path of villainy a try. But, I doubt that time would come."
