Chapter 4 - Arc 1 Zombie Apocalypse - Chapter 4

[survive]

What she meant by it seemed too human was its eyes were clear and deep sapphire which wasn't' glazed over or completely missing like the other infected she had seen. Suzanne couldn't help but feel a forming sense of apprehension that made her slightly nauseous and light-headed as she tightened her grip on the mallet. The figure stood tall, it had the same uniform as her so it was definitely a male student, an older student she hadn't met. He had his hair in locks that were tied up in a ponytail that had managed to avoid being stained by blood. She would've been sure he was still human if she didn't see the nasty wound in his shoulder that had taken a good chunk of skin but had left behind bloody bite marks.

The girl with a portion of her head missing began banging violently on the glass door behind them forcing Suzanne to nearly jump out of her skin due to the sheer consternation. The cracking glass in front of them and the barricaded door behind them.

"I never asked your name," The boy said with a serious face making the girl wonder if he realized the situation they were in.

"Suzanne," She said, "You can call me Suzy, you?" Either way, she liked his chilled vibes, she could benefit from having a calm head in this kind of situation even though it is slightly frustrating to have someone that can't understand when they were in danger.

"What a pretty name, my name is Kamron, you can call me Karm." She nodded as she inhaled slowly as the sound of shattering glass filled the room and zombies rushed from behind the human-like infected triggering Kamron to grab her hand, running to the walls and climbing up the tables and taking her mallet in her while letting go he smashed the iron bars blocking the entrance pulling himself inside and turning back for Suzanne who using her feet pushed the table down to obstruct the herd and was pulled up.

Exhaling loudly she stared at the boy, "You could've told me the plan."

"It would've taken too long" He replied nonchalantly before turning to crawl through the vents, she stared at him in annoyance wondering how long till she murders him.

"Let's get out of here, we have to check on our families," Suzy said quickly as he crawled on through the vents following the boy who was using his luck to find his way out.

At the back of the school, the entrance to a vent was kicked open and the boy jumped down before being followed by Suzy who quickly rubbed her sore knees that had spent the last 20 or so minutes crawling through the cold metal fences. The back gates were locked but beyond the gates, cars honked and people screamed at each other as a long line of cars were waiting in the terrible traffic, attempting to get away while some cars blocked the gates and parents were trying to break down the gates to get to their kids.

"Let's leave quickly," Karm said before running to the side gates and she nodded before following, if those parents managed to get to the children it would not be a pretty scene. As they climbed over the fence Suzy began to realize how fucked they were. They were in the middle of a major city with no transport to their homes due to the traffic and a zombie outbreak in this highly populated city.

As she jumped down she turned to Karm unsure of what to do next, "We should go to my place, it's a few minutes away and if we run we can make it in half the time." She nodded, she already felt exhausted from the constant running but could only keep running. She followed him as she tried to ignore the panicked people hurling verbal abuse across the road as all cars were stuck in the never-ending traffic. Everyone wanted out, they would soon realize that they could either chose to die or find a place to camp out the outbreak until help arrives.

Karm lived in an apartment which was almost deserted, some people were still rushing out in a hurry with their suitcases, big and small families all together trying their best to get out. It was likely that the pandemic had been on a national platform which explained why so many people knew already. They quickly went up a few stairs and arrived at the small apartment that he opened with a key and locked behind them. She took up her phone and saw 30 missed calls from her dad.

She quickly dialled back and he immediately picked up the phone.

[Where are you!? We've been calling for the past 3 hours!]

Relieve.

It felt like a huge boulder had been lifted from her shoulders as she heard his voice, he was off work today and it was mum that went to work while he stayed with the twins to drive them to school.

"Dad where are you? Where are the twins? Where's mum!?" she asked in a less urgent tone than him saying a silent prayer in her heart.

[We were evacuated! Your mother is being evacuated now, I've been trying to contact you to get you to come home but now it's too late...] his voice cracked slightly, it sounded like he was using every ounce of strength left in him to not break down.

"It's ok dad, really, I'm out of school now I'm just waiting for the chaos to calm down then I-"

[No! you can't wait there any longer! There's going to be a big sweep! You have to find a way to the airport! You- what!?] Her face dimmed as she heard screams from the phone and the clear sounds of bullets, then the call was cut and she brought down her phone from it's position in front of her right ear.

She stared at the phone and realized there was no network, her heart shook violently as it dawned on her that if they lost communication now then she may never see them again... "Karm..."

"Hmm?" He had already begun filling containers with water, he turned from the little kitchen to look at the girl who had collapsed on her knees.

"We're doomed..." she choked on the last words as tears threatened to fall from her eyes. He glanced at her before walking up to her and enveloping her in a hug.
