Fr. John cursed his curiosity as he climbed down the stairs which connected his room to the corridor. Unlike any other rooms in the Church his room was elevated on four large pillars, which gave him a complete view of the compound. In the olden days the same room was used as a watch tower. Though his curious nature has landed him in trouble, he would always jump for it. 'Who might be that?' murmured Fr. John to himself as he couldn't find anyone whereas he had previously spotted a black figure kneeling before altar. Curiously he came gliding down the stairs to investigate who has entered into the church at this hour and to his surprise there was no one. He looked around and the sight before him served as a catalyst to his curiosity. He inched forward towards the door. The door which wasn't opened since two decades was revealing the outside world through it.
Fr. John's heart shrink as thoughts filled in, "John, get me the Holy Water" Fr. John heard his mentor screaming from the other side of the church. Quickly he a grabbed the holy water and ran towards him. But his eyes widen as he wasn't expecting this. Before him, his beloved mentor was standing wounded and drenched in blood and was screaming at him to bring the holy water. But Fr. John couldn't move. His legs were frozen at the horrifying sight before him.
'John….' Fr. John was brought back to reality as someone called out his name in a husky, low voice. 'John...' it came again and this time he could figure out that it was from the forest. After several minutes of reasoning he decided to take a look. Stepping out through the same door Fr, John started walking aiming for the forest and the source of that creepy voice.
Walking in the forest alone, when darkness took over wasn't anything new for Fr. John. It gave him more space to think. The cold breeze and the silence of the night served as a catalyst for him figure to out solution for many problems. But this time it felt something different, as if something is calling him towards it. Like a fly attracted towards light, he walked towards it not knowing what or where it is. He dug in his pocket and his expressions calmed once his hand felt the presence of his all-time companion. 'A perfect companion anyone could have' thought Fr. John. It was with him for nearly three decades now.
It felt like yesterday, the day when Fr. John was ordained as a priest. A day when anxiety and fear fought to takeover. As he was about to step on the altar for the preparation still confused whether he was worthy enough for it. A voice materialised besides his ear "Go my child... The Lord is waiting for you". Those words gave the young priest enough strength to go up the altar and hold Jesus with his trembling hands.
"Proud of you my child" said a man in long white robe. It was Fr. John's mentor, teacher and guide. bowing his head, he said "bless me father". "May the almighty be always there for your help" saying this the old priest placed a wooden box in Fr. John's palm. "This will help you through difficult times" He said. Fr. John opened it to find an extraordinary Rosary in it. He took the Rosary out and felt the cold metal as he examined it. It was a strange Rosary with three Our Father Beads, ten Hail Mary Beads, a set of Antiphon Beads and surprisingly a big cross which was quite big as compared to the Rosary. Since then it was with him as his companion in best and worse.
Fr. John opened his eyes with the sound of someone banging on the door. He looked around and was surprised to find himself in his room. 'Was I dreaming? strange' he grabbed the watch and wondered who that would be. Opening the door, he found the night guard wating for him. From his face it was apparent that he wasn't even guarding his own cabin. "Father, someone wants to meet you and he said it's very urgent."
"Me?" Fr. John was bewildered as who was so eager to meet him at midnight.
