Chapter 1 - Prologue

Isn't it funny how one person can ruin your entire life if you give them the power to do so? No? Well, I thought it was funny.

The idea of trusting someone enough to put your life in their hands. To let them do what they want with it. Like, it's lot your life anymore. It's theirs. They control it, not you.

But what if it was the opposite way around? What if someone put their life in your hands? What if someone trusted you so much that they were willing to hand over their life to you?

Now, I'm not going to tell you how that feels. Not because I don't want to, but because I wouldn't know.

My name is Graycee. Graycee Smith. If anyone knows anything about me, it's that I don't trust a lot of people. A lot of people don't trust me. Except for the very few people I know I can trust, I stay away from everyone. I keep to myself. You'd never guess that I used to be one of the most trusting people there were.

People say things about me. People talk. They judge me, based on what they see. But you know what? That's not my problem. I once read somewhere that you shouldn't judge people unless you're perfect, and as far as I can tell, no one is.

It only proves that these people are so insecure about themselves that they have to find the flaws in other people to make themselves feel better, and it's sick. It's sick, and it's wrong. But I'm getting completely off topic here, aren't I?

Let's start again. I'm Graycee Smith. I'm sixteen years old, and I live in California. I've got long brown Hershey's colored hair going down to the small of my back. I have bright green eyes, and I'm average height, I'd say.

I'm not one of those stereotypical Californian teens who goes down to the beach everyday. Maybe every other day, but still. And I'm definitely not one of those people who stay holed up in their bedrooms all day on their computers looking at memes. No. I spend what little free time I have divided between the beach, my art studio, and the library. It might seem like a foreign concept to some people, but I actually love reading. I'm not a nerd, no, although some people consider me one. I'm one of those weird human beings out there who doesn't fit in.

Now, I have friends, of course, and we make up our own little group. This is the group I'm in. Some people consider us freaks. We are. We all are. I mean, who isn't a freak, really? You might think you're not, but you're lying to yourself. We all have insecurities. We all have faults. That's what makes us human. But if you're considered human, you're a freak, whether you know it or not. If we all have our own faults and insecurities, we're all different. And to be different is to be a freak in a lot of peoples' messed up minds, correct?

Now, I apologize again. I'm completely off topic. Now, because I'm the weirdo that I am, I'm gonna leave you hanging there.

Author's Note

I'm gonna go ahead and apologize in advance to those who dislike odd chapter endings. I hate endings. They're hard for me to write. But hey, I hope you all decide to stick around anyway. Thank you for reading!! :)
