Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

The following day, Hiroyuki went to work with a happy smile on his face. Recently, he found he had been in a good mood. Despite his financial instability, but things were looking better, now that Jiro was earning money too.

Jiro went to work. The day began normally. Because of his delicious meal yesterday, Jiro was in a good mood. He felt invigorated to work harder. The more money he made, the more times he and Hiroyuki could go out to eat a good meal.

Following after this belief, Jiro spent a good portion of the day weeding the grass from the flower beds.

Ever since Jiro started working, the apartment complex landscaping looked better. Soma received many praises from the residents. And sometimes, when Jiro was working, a resident would come over and greet him. This was their way of acknowledging his hard work.

The previous landscaper, Wada, had been greatly disliked. He was unpopular with the residents and with Soma.

As Jiro was busy working, a man approached him from behind. Jiro felt a tap on his shoulder.

"Excuse me, are you the new landscaper?"

Jiro didn't recognize the man, but he nodded his head.

"Well then, I'm telling you to quit."

"Why should I quit?" Jiro asked.

"Because it's my job and I'm taking it back!" the stranger angrily raised his voice.

"I see," Jiro said, "You're the person that no one here likes."

"You think I'm a terrible person? Then I'll show you the worst person ever!"

Wada lunged at Jiro. Jiro put his hands over his head and braced himself for the oncoming onslaught.

Only nothing happened.

When he opened his eyes, he saw Hiroyuki holding Wada by the back of his shirt with one hand and punching him with the other hand.

Earlier, Hiroyuki was on his way to work. However, as he walked past an alley, he heard a man muttering profanities. The man's familiar voice caught Hiroyuki's attention. When Hiroyuki saw the man's unshaven face, he recognized him as Wada.

Because he didn't know what Wada was up to, Hiroyuki called into work, to tell them he would be late due to personal issues. Since he wasn't late often, his boss didn't mind it too much. His boss just told Hiroyuki, he would have to work late to make up for the difference.

And it was a good thing Hiroyuki followed behind Wada. If he hadn't, he didn't know what would have happened to the young boy.
