Since Jiro had a job that provided free lunch, Hiroyuki saved twenty minutes of sleep every day. In the past, he would wake up twenty minutes earlier to make lunch for Jiro. Jiro, who didn't want to be a bother volunteered to eat snacks, but Hiroyuki insisted eating junk food would stunt his growth. Thus, Hiroyuki would take the time to prepare a noon meal for Jiro.
On his first day, Hiroyuki told him that if he didn't like the job, he could quit. Jiro nodded his head, but he didn't intend on it. Even if the job was tiring, Jiro didn't want to continue living with Hiroyuki and be a burden. Because Jiro always secretly believed, he was a burden to his mother, that's why his mother left him.
Now that he had a new home with a good person, Jiro didn't want to be abandoned a second time. Life with Hiroyuki, although not perfect at all times, it was still much better than living on the streets. Jiro always believed, if he hadn't met Hiroyuki that night, he would have frozen to death out on the streets.
Brushing aside the negative thought, Jiro lightly stepped off to work. He walked to the maintenance room and Soma let him inside. Soma had all the keys to every lock. Jiro quickly dressed in his protective equipment and took out the shears. He started the day by pruning the bushes. It took longer than it should because the bushes hadn't been trimmed in a while.
From what Jiro had overheard from the neighbors, there used to be a landscaper named Wada. However, Wada liked to drink on the job. One day, he nearly injured a small child with the lawnmower. Afterwards, he was dismissed. The apartment residents all let out a sigh of relief upon learning of his dismissal.
In this apartment complex, most of the apartments were studio apartments, but on the higher up levels, the more expensive levels, there were two and three bedroom family units. The landscaping job required Jiro to trim the bushes, mow the lawn, remove the growing green moss on the walkways, and to trim the tree branches. In the autumn, he would also have the additional job of raking leaves, although Soma told him he could use the lawn mower. During the summer, he would also have to turn on the automatic watering system. All-in-all, the job was fairly easy and didn't require much heavy lifting. The only downside was the small pay.
If Jiro worked at a convenience store, he would earn about twenty thousand yen a day. For now, his current pay was enough. But in the future, Jiro planned on getting a second part time job to earn more money. He just had to let Hiroyuki warm up to the idea. Jiro intuitively knew Hiroyuki didn't like for him to work. It was like Hiroyuki wanted to take care of him financially. Hiroyuki's way of thinking was very similar to Jiro's own father's way of thinking. In fact, when he thought about it, Jiro felt Hiroyuki's thought process was fairly close to his father's thought process. Perhaps, this is the reason why Jiro could get along with Hiroyuki so well.
