Jiro's first day of work went well.
However, Hiroyuki fretted while he was at work. His mind kept wandering, as he thought about Jiro getting hurt or feeling tired. By lunch time, Hiroyuki was upset he couldn't afford a cellphone for Jiro. Hiroyuki had a cellphone, but it was one he had received from his parents when he first started college. The cellphone model was five years old now. In the past, Hiroyuki would frequently exchange for a brand new phone every year. At the latest, his phone would be two years old.
But it was his own fault for being stubborn. Hiroyuki didn't want to rely on his parents' money to live his life. He wanted to experience what others called the ups and downs of life. Growing up, Hiroyuki was well-protected by his parents and this made him out of touch with the way the average person lived their lives.
That's why when he lived with Jiro, Hiroyuki had a very satisfying feeling. Jiro's life was like the average person's life, which Hiroyuki wanted to experience. Only Hiroyuki didn't know that Jiro's life was worst off than the average person.
By the time lunch time rolled around, Hiroyuki anxiously called Soma.
"Hello?" her friendly voice picked up the line.
"Yes, it's Hiroyuki. Is Jiro there?"
"Of course, he's eating his lunch. Would you like to speak with him?"
"Yes," Hiroyuki accepted.
A slight pause later, Jiro's soft voice appeared on the line. "This is Jiro."
"It's Hiroyuki," Hiroyuki answered.
"Yes, is everything alright?" Jiro's voice turned serious.
"Everything is fine. I just remembered I didn't give you my cellphone number."
Borrowing a pen and paper from Soma, Jiro quickly jotted down Hiroyuki's number.
"In the future, if anything happens, just give me a call."
"I will," Jiro brightly answered. A slight blush on his face.
Before, he had always wanted to ask for Hiroyuki's number, but he was afraid to ask for it. Now, Hiroyuki willingly gave it to him. Jiro felt fortunate.
After hanging up, Hiroyuki didn't feel satisfied. In the future, to reach Jiro, Hiroyuki would have to call the maintenance office. What if Jiro was outside? Wouldn't it be inconvenient? And what about Soma? Would it make Soma irate?
With hesitation, Hiroyuki finally called his mother.
"Mom, can you give me two new cellphones with lines of service?"
