Chapter 24 - Silver Lining

YVE's POV

They still dare threaten my life despite my silence and giving everything to them!? Then I think it is high time to ask help from Vince. I know that aside from my father he is the only person I can trust now and that hasn't change. Despite breaking his heart, he still looked for me and and treated me so well.

Deep inside my heart, I can't deny that I feel safe and comfortable having Vince by my side. I want to clear things up so I decided to let him stay as the doctor asks my medical history.

"Ms. Smith, can you tell me how did you obtain this kind of injury?" The doctor asked me.

"It was when I was in third year college, I fell from the school's staircase and ended up on the lower floor when boxes containing so many intravenous fluids fell from the shelves and landed into my hands instead."

"How was that possible? Why didn't know about that?" Vince asked raising his voice.

"Because you were at Australia and I didn't want to tell you."

"But….."

Ughh… I feel like crying again. Why is this always like this???!!!

"Is this the reason why you decided to break up with me?"

"Ahem… Maybe you can talk about that later…."

"Oh, I'm sorry. Please go on." Vince responded to the doctor.

"So Ms. Smith what happened after the accident?"

It wasn't accident. Well, it's not for the doctor to know.

"As what you can see from the X-ray films. My legs specifically my feet and my right hand were severely damaged. I had to go to therapy to walk and use my right hand again."

Tears are falling down. Vince held my hand firmly and wiped the tears on my face.

"I had to undergo rehabilitation to walk again and use my right hand. Now, I can walk and use my right hand but I…." I totally cried. Vince comforted me and hugged me so tight. His arms around me made me feel secured.

"I'm sorry about what happened. Anyways, I will keep everything a secret and I will schedule your CT scan and to be safe, I will also schedule a rehabilitative check-up for you."

"Okay, doctor. Thank you very much." Vince answered on my behalf.

"I'll take my leave then, Mr. Gray and Ms. Smith. Just call the nurse if you need further assistance." The sound of the door closing indicated that the doctor left the room.

"Hush… no need to cry now. I'm here by your side and I will never leave you again." Vince said while gently stroking my back with his hands.

"Vince...I…..can't ...…" I tried to say in between sobs.

"Shh… you have said enough for the night. Other details can wait. For now, you should calm down and rest so that you can recover faster." He said and without letting me go, he sat down beside me.

"It's fine. I think I will feel better if I can share this to you." I pulled away to talk to him properly.

"After the rehabilitation, the doctor told me that it is impossible for me to become a surgeon because of my hand and that I can't do strenuous activity using my hands. I was so devastated and I don't know what to do."

"Why didn't you let me stay by your side then? Why did you want to endure all those hardships alone?"

"I didn't want to but I know that you will leave Australia if I told you what happened."

"Of course!! You are my Queen!! Being by your side is where I should always be."

I touched his face and said, "I know which was why I had to let you go. It was a very dangerous time for your family's business. I must not compete for your attention."

He took my hand and moved it towards his back making my face fall to his chest and finally hugged him.

"But if you explained it to me, we might have found a better solution. And besides, days before you broke up with me, your family came to our aid. You ordered them, right?"

I can't answer his question. The sound of the room's air conditioner filled the place.

"Yve?"

Still I didn't answer.

"Are you asleep?"

He was about to undo my hands around me when I held my ground and held unto him firmly and said,

"I am still awake."

"Okay. But speaking of your company…. Why are you working in our hotel as an employee, when you have a big corporation to manage?"

"I…. I…"

"You really don't like managing the company? But it was your father's legacy. You were suppose to get it when you reach the legal age… right?"

Is it the right time to tell him everything? From my father's death to saving their family business?

EDWARD's POV

I was standing outside Yvory's hospital room holding the pork steak she requested and was about to knock when I heard their conversation.

"After the rehabilitation, the doctor told me that it is impossible for me to become a surgeon because of my hand and that I can't do strenuous activity using my hands..."

I didn't want to interrupt so I decided to wait outside the door. Then I heard their talk about Yvory's company - the Stones Enterprises Incorporated. Being an investor when nobody wanted to be an investor and providing business strategy at that time helped the Gray Group recover. But if I am not mistaken, the current president is her step mother.

Then I heard,

"Okay. But speaking of your company…. Why are you working in our hotel as an employee, when you have a big corporation to manage?" Vince asked Yvory.

"I…. I…"

"You really don't like managing the company? But it was your father's legacy. You were suppose to get it when you reach the legal age… right?"

Yvory was stuttering. I haven't known Yvory that well but based on Vince's stories and the profile I had, she is the type of person who will cherish the treasures and legacies of the people she loves. Even if she doesn't like managing the company, she has the higher percentage of accepting the position. Vince also mentioned that some of the business strategies that the Stones Enterprises gave are unconventional and might be her idea.

I was intrigued by how Yvory can't answer Vince's questions so I decided to call my agent.

"Hello? Ed here."

"Sir."

"Can you give me the status of the Stones Enterprises Incorporated including their organizational structure and the important people holding those positions."

"Sir, I thought..."

"Yes, they are allies but I am curious about something. Oh, include also the contracts and business deals we have with them. I need all so don't forget to include the finished, ongoing and even those in the planning stage."

"Yes, sir."

"Oh, lastly, don't let everyone else know about this. I need this on my table tomorrow."

"Yes, sir."

I ended the phone call.

Since I don't hear anything else, I took it as a signal to give the requested food to Yvory. I knocked on the door and opened it.
