I kept my research the next day and continued to read more about vampires. The more I learned, the more I understood Vincent. While doing my research, I hear a soft knock on the door "Come in" I called out. I closed down my laptop as Aaron walked in, "Hey... Umm, I just wanted to speak with you. If you don't mind" He asked. I had no reason to deny him other than I'm reading something, but Aaron's been helpful. He does a lot for me, so I could at least speak to him a bit "I don't mind". He walks over to my bed and sat down beside me, "You've been here for a while and you help around the house for me. Today, I realized I know nothing about you and you barely know me. So, why don't we listen to each other today?" he asked. It's like I could say no, I wanted to know more about him. I just left like I would bother him if I bugged him with so many questions. I let out some air before replying, "I don't mind talking with you but you won't believe a word I say" I replied. "Try me" Aaron quickly responded.
I was silent for a moment before looking back to meet his eyes, "You go first,". Aaron nodded, "That's fair, I was the one to start this conversation, anyway,". Aaron laid down next to me with his hands behind his head. I scooted over to give him more space and sat there staring at him. He glanced at the ceiling, "I am a hard-working detective. I usually help solve cases every day. I find missing people, murders, etc. Lately, I've been on my case... It's the hardest case I've ever had."
Curious, I asked, "Why didn't you give up?"
"This is something I could never give up on unless I get the truth" Aaron replied.
"Is this a murder?"
"No, It's a missing person. A youthful girl, to be exact. In fact, this case is the reason I found you".
I tilt my head, "What do you mean?"
"Some data and evidence I've collected led me to your destination. I don't have actual permission to go throughout the entire building and there were many guys with guns there. The last thing I wanted to do was start something and have innocent people get killed. Trust me, it took a lot of guts not to do that. Before I left, however, I saw you. Young.. innocent... I couldn't just leave you."
As I listened, a slight smile grew onto my face "I see that you have a soft heart, huh?"
Aaron rolled his eyes, "Shut it. You were like a puppy stuck in a pound. I have a heart ya know"
I chuckled a bit and fell down next to him, "Thanks for everything Aaron... It's been hard to have an older person to look up to. My mother was an amazing person, and she still is, but I lost her..."
"I'm sorry to hear that.."
"No, no, not by death. At least I hope not... My.. fa.. no.. that.. jerk sold her off... I thought the guy would have been in prison, but I guess not."
"I'm assuming that's your father?" Aaron asked.
I shook my head "was" I corrected.
Talking about that devil makes me feel so uneasy. I don't enjoy thinking about him.
"What did he do?" Aaron asked.
"He ruined my life... He would do terrible things to me and my mother, so I ran away"
"Kid, why would you run away? What about your mother?" he asked. I could tell he was getting interested in my story.
"My mom was the one who told me to run. I darted out my window and into the woods. I met..." He took in a deep, shaky breath. "I met a boy who looked my age. H-he had the brightest of eyes, filled with innocence. The gentlest of hands that made you melt when he touched you. The softest of voice that made you feel safe somehow. He took me in and cared for me".
Aaron looked over at me and gave a smirk "I see someone is gay for someone else"
I met his eyes, "Gay? What does that mean?"
Aaron chuckled, "It's when a guy and a guy like one another. It used to be a terrible thing, but times have changed"
Hearing Aaron says that made me think of the times I got scolded by the maids because of the things I would say and do to Vincent. Now, it made more sense, especially since I'm older.
"Where is this lover of yours now?" Aaron asked.
"That jerk burned down his home, the home he took me in, the home he loved so dearly.." I answered.
Aaron sat up quickly, "What the fuck. Are you serious?"
I rolled the other way, "Yes... All because he wanted to sell me for extra cash"
Aaron placed his hand on my arm, "I'm sorry Sky. A Father should never do such things to their own child."
I bite down on my lip and sit up, "You help find missing people, right?"
Aaron nodded "Yes"
"Will you help me find my mom and my boyfriend?"
"Wait, so you know what a boyfriend is?" Aaron asked.
"Yeah, I read books on love," I replied.
"But you don't even know what sex is?"
"Sex?"
"Jesus, Sky..." Aaron sighed and sat up, "I will help you. In return, you help me. You were backstage that day. Did you see a young girl?"
I thought for a moment, and then I realized that I have. That one girl who went through so much but had a smile of gold. "Yes, I have. Her name was Layla. She never spoke, but she wrote it on my hand. She helped me a lot that day. Then they took her..."
Aaron's face turned more serious and angry looking, "Who? Where did they take her?"
I shrugged, "I think they sold her... I tried to keep her with me but.. She went with them. I couldn't reach her". I gently rub my wrist, remembering everything from that day.
Aaron frowns as he walked to the door, "Come to my office. I want to ask you more questions. Maybe we can find her location."
"But what about Vincent? What about my mom?" I asked, upset. I wanted to save the girl too, but... I miss Vincent...
"No girl, no deal. We find her first," Aaron demanded.
I frowned, "Fine..." I got out of bed and went into Aaron's office with him.
